1 Thou, therefore, my child, be empowering thyself in the favour that is in Christ Jesus,
1 Tu, portanto, meu filho, procura progredir na graça de Jesus Cristo.
2 And, the things which thou hast heard from me among many witnesses, the same, entrust thou unto faithful men, such as shall be, competent, to teach, others also.
2 O que de mim ouviste em presença de muitas testemunhas, confia-o a homens fiéis que, por sua vez, sejam capazes de instruir a outros.
3 Take thy part in suffering hardship, as a brave soldier of Christ Jesus:
3 Suporta comigo os trabalhos, como bom soldado de Jesus Cristo.
4 No one that is serving as a soldier, entangleth himself with the matters of his livelihood, that he may please him that hath summoned him to serve as a soldier;
4 Nenhum soldado pode implicar-se em negócios da vida civil, se quer agradar ao que o alistou.
5 If, moreover, any man, contend even in the games, he is not crowned, unless, lawfully, he contend;
5 Nenhum atleta será coroado, se não tiver lutado segundo as regras.
6 The toiling husbandman, ought, first, of the fruits, to partake:
6 É preciso que o lavrador trabalhe antes com afinco, se quer boa colheita.
7 Think, as to what I am speaking; for the Lord will give thee discernment in all things.
7 Entende bem o que eu quero dizer. O Senhor há de dar-te inteligência em tudo.
8 Keep in mind Jesus Christraised from among the dead, of the seed of David,according to my joyful message:
8 Lembra-te de Jesus Cristo, saído da estirpe de Davi e ressuscitado dos mortos, segundo o meu Evangelho,
9 In which I am suffering hardship, even unto bonds, as an evil-doer; but, the word of God, is not bound.
9 pelo qual estou sofrendo até as cadeias como um malfeitor. Mas a palavra de Deus, esta não se deixa acorrentar.
10 For this cause, am I enduring, all things, for the sake of the chosen, in order that, they also, may obtain, the salvation, which is in Christ Jesus along with glory age-abiding.
10 Pelo que tudo suporto por amor dos escolhidos, para que também eles consigam a salvação em Jesus Cristo, com a glória eterna.
11 Faithful, the sayingfor, If we have died together, we shall also live together,
11 Eis uma verdade absolutamente certa: Se morrermos com ele, com ele viveremos.
12 If we endure, we shall also reign together; If we shall deny, he also, will deny us,
12 Se soubermos perseverar, com ele reinaremos.
13 If we are faithless, he, faithful, abideth,for, deny himself, he cannot!
13 Se, porém, o renegarmos, ele nos renegará. Se formos infiéis... ele continua fiel, e não pode desdizer-se.
14 Of these things, be putting before God not to be waging word-battles,useful, for nothing, occasioning a subversion of them that hearken.
14 Lembra-lhes estas coisas e conjura-os, por Deus, a evitarem discussões de palavras, que só servem para a perdição dos ouvintes.
15 Give diligence, thyself, approved, to present unto God,a workman not to be put to shame, skillfully handling the word of truth.
15 Empenha-te em te apresentares diante de Deus como homem digno de aprovação, operário que não tem de que se envergonhar, íntegro distribuidor da palavra da verdade.
16 But, the profane pratings, shun; for, unto more ungodliness, will they force themselves on;
16 Procura esquivar-te das conversas frívolas dos mundanos, que só contribuem para a impiedade.
17 And, their discourse, as a gangrene, will eat its way;of whom are Hymenaeus and Philetus,
17 As palavras dessa gente destroem como a gangrena. Entre eles estão Himeneu e Fileto,
18 Men who, concerning the truth, have erred, affirming, a resurrection, already, to have taken place, and are overthrowing the faith, of some.
18 que se desviaram da verdade dizendo que a ressurreição já aconteceu e transtornaram a fé em alguns.
19 Howbeit, the firm foundation of God, standeth, having this sealThe Lord hath acknowledged them who are his, and, Let every one that nameth the name of the Lord stand aloof from unrighteousness.
19 Contudo, o sólido fundamento de Deus se mantém firme, porque vem selado com estas palavras: O Senhor conhece os que são seus {Nm 16,5}; e: Renuncie à iniqüidade todo aquele que pronuncia o nome do Senhor {Is 26,13}.
20 But, in a great house, there are not only gold and silver vessels, but, also wooden and earthen: and, some, indeed, for honour, while, some, are for dishonour:
20 Numa grande casa não há somente utensílios de ouro e de prata, mas também de madeira e de barro. Aqueles para ocasiões finas, estes para uso ordinário.
21 If, therefore, anyone will, for pureness, sever himself from these, he shall be a vessel for honour, hallowed, meet for the Masters use, for every good work, prepared.
21 Quem, portanto, se conservar puro e isento dessas doutrinas, será um utensílio nobre, santificado, útil ao seu possuidor, preparado para todo uso benéfico.
22 But, from the youthful covetings, flee! and pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace, along with them who call upon the Lord out of a pure heart.
22 Foge das paixões da mocidade, busca com empenho a justiça, a fé, a caridade, a paz, com aqueles que invocam o Senhor com pureza de coração.
23 But, from the foolish and undisciplined questionings, excuse thyself, knowing that they gender strifes;
23 Rejeita as discussões tolas e absurdas, visto que geram contendas.
24 And, a servant of the Lord, ought not to strive, but to be, gentle, towards all, apt in teaching, ready to endure malice,
24 Não convém a um servo do Senhor altercar; bem ao contrário, seja ele condescendente com todos, capaz de ensinar, paciente em suportar os males.
25 In meekness, bringing under discipline them that oppose themselves, lest at any time God should give them repentance unto a personal knowledge of truth,
25 É com brandura que deve corrigir os adversários, na esperança de que Deus lhes conceda o arrependimento e o conhecimento da verdade,
26 And they should wake up to sobriety out of, the adversarys, snare,though they have been taken alive by him for, that ones, will.
26 e voltem a si, uma vez livres dos laços do demônio, que os mantém cativos e submetidos aos seus caprichos.
