1 Pursue love; nevertheless be envious of the spiritual gifts,and, rather, that ye may be prophesying.
1 Que o amor seja seu maior objetivo! Contudo, desejem também os dons espirituais, especialmente a capacidade de profetizar.
2 For, he that speaketh with a tongue, not unto men, doth speak, but, unto God,for, no one, understandeth, although, in spirit, he is speaking sacred secrets;
2 Pois quem fala em línguas fala apenas com Deus, pois ninguém mais o entende, e em espírito fala verdades ocultas.
3 But, be that prophesieth, unto men, doth speakedification, and exhortation, and comfort.
3 Mas aquele que profetiza fortalece, anima e conforta os outros.
4 He that speaketh with a tongue, buildeth up, himself, whereas, he that prophesieth, buildeth up, an assembly.
4 Quem fala em línguas fortalece a si mesmo, mas quem profetiza fortalece toda a igreja.
5 Howbeit I wish you all to speak with tongues, but, rather, that ye may prophesy,moreover, greater, is he that prophesieth, than he that speaketh with tongues,unless indeed he translate, that, the assembly, may receive upbuilding.
5 Gostaria que todos vocês falassem em línguas, mas gostaria ainda mais que todos profetizassem. Pois a profecia é superior a falar em línguas, a menos que alguém interprete o que vocês dizem para que toda a igreja seja fortalecida.
6 But, now, brethrenif I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit, you, except I speak, unto you, either by way of revelation, or knowledge, or prophesying, or teaching?
6 Irmãos, se eu for visitá-los e falar em línguas, em que isso os ajudará? Mas, se eu lhes trouxer uma revelação, um conhecimento especial, uma profecia ou um ensinamento, isso lhes será proveitoso.
7 In like manner, the things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, if, a distinction in the sounds, they do not give, how shall it be known, what is being piped or harped?
7 Até mesmo instrumentos inanimados como a flauta ou a harpa precisam soar as notas com clareza; do contrário, ninguém reconhecerá a melodia.
8 For, if also, an uncertain sound, a trumpet, should give, who shall prepare himself for battle?
8 E, se a trombeta não emitir um toque nítido, como os soldados saberão que estão sendo convocados para a batalha?
9 So, also, ye, through means of the tongue, except ye give intelligible discourse, how shall it be known what is being spoken? for ye will be speaking, to the air.
9 O mesmo acontece com vocês. Se usarem palavras incompreensíveis, como alguém saberá o que estão dizendo? Será o mesmo que falar ao vento.
10 There may happen to be so many kinds of languages in the world, and, not one, unspoken:
10 Há muitos idiomas no mundo, e todos têm sentido.
11 If, then, I do not know the meaning of the language, I shall be, unto him that is speaking, a foreigner, and, he that is speaking, shall be, in my case, a foreigner.
11 Mas, se eu não entendo um idioma, sou estrangeiro para quem o fala, e ele é estrangeiro para mim.
12 So, ye, alsosince ye are, envious, of spirits, unto the upbuilding of the assembly, seek to be pre-eminent.
12 O mesmo se aplica a vocês. Uma vez que estão ansiosos para ter os dons espirituais, busquem os dons que fortalecerão a igreja toda.
13 Wherefore, he that speaketh with a tongue, let him pray that he may translate;
13 Portanto, quem fala em línguas deve orar pedindo também a capacidade de interpretar o que é dito.
14 For , if I am praying in a tongue, my spirit, is praying, but, my mind, is unfruitful.
14 Pois, se oro em línguas, meu espírito ora, mas eu não entendo o que estou dizendo.
15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, but I will pray also with the mind,I will strike the strings with the spirit, but I will strike the strings also with the mind.
15 Então, o que devo fazer? Orarei no espírito e também orarei em palavras que entendo. Cantarei no espírito e também cantarei em palavras que entendo.
16 Else, if thou be blessing in a spirit, he that filleth up the place of the ungifted person, how shall he say the Amen upon thy thanksgiving? since indeed, what thou art saying, he knoweth not;
16 Pois, se louvarem apenas no espírito, como poderão louvar com vocês aqueles que não os entendem? Como poderão agradecer com vocês se não entendem o que estão dizendo?
17 For, thou, indeed, excellently art giving thanks, but, the other, is not being built up.
17 Vocês darão graças muito bem, mas não fortalecerão aqueles que os ouvem.
18 I give thanks unto God!More than ye all, am I speaking with tongues;
18 Dou graças a Deus porque falo em línguas mais que qualquer um de vocês.
19 But, in assembly, I desire to speak five words with my mind, that, others also, I may instruct, than myriads of words in a tongue.
19 Contudo, numa reunião da igreja, prefiro dizer cinco palavras compreensíveis que ajudem os outros a falar dez mil palavras em outra língua.
20 Brethren! do not become children, in your understandings; but, in baseness, become babes, while, in your understandings, ye become, full-grown.
20 Irmãos, não sejam infantis no entendimento dessas coisas. Sejam inocentes como bebês com relação ao mal, mas sejam maduros no entendimento.
21 In the law, it is writtenWith strange tongues, and with lips of strangers, will I speak unto this people; and, not even so, will they hearken unto me,saith the Lord.
21 Pois as Escrituras dizem: “Falarei a este povo em línguas estranhas e por meio de lábios estrangeiros. Mesmo assim, este povo não me ouvirá, diz o Senhor”.
22 So that, the tongues, are for a signnot unto them that believe, but, unto them that believe not; whereas, prophesying, is not for them that believe not, but, for them that believe.
22 Portanto, falar em línguas é um sinal não para os que creem, mas para os descrentes. A profecia, contudo, é para os que creem, e não para os descrentes.
23 If, then, the whole assembly come together with one consent, and, all, are speaking with tongues,and there come in persons unskilled or unbelieving, will they not say that ye are raving?
23 Ainda assim, se descrentes ou pessoas que não entendem essas coisas entrarem na reunião de sua igreja e ouvirem todos falarem em línguas, pensarão que vocês são loucos.
24 But, if, all, be prophesying,and there come in one who is unbelieving or unskilled, he is convicted by all, he is searched by all, the secrets of his heart, become manifest,
24 Mas, se todos vocês estiverem profetizando e descrentes ou pessoas que não entendem essas coisas entrarem na reunião, serão convencidos do pecado e julgados por aquilo que vocês disserem.
25 And, so, falling down upon his face, he will do homage unto God, reporting that, in reality, God is, among you.
25 Ao ouvirem, os pensamentos secretos deles serão revelados, e eles cairão de joelhos e adorarão a Deus, declarando: “De fato, Deus está aqui no meio de vocês”.
26 What, then, is it, brethren? Whensoever ye are coming together, each one, hath a psalm, hath a teaching, hath a revelation, hath a tongue, hath a translation:let, all things, be done, unto building up.
26 Pois bem, irmãos, o que fazer, então? Quando vocês se reunirem, um cantará, o outro ensinará, o outro revelará, um falará em línguas e outro interpretará o que for dito. Tudo que for feito, porém, deverá fortalecer a todos.
27 If, with a tongue, one is speaking, let it be by two, or, at the most, three,and by turns; and let, one, be translating;
27 Não mais que dois ou três devem falar em línguas. Devem se pronunciar um de cada vez, e alguém deve interpretar o que disserem.
28 But, if there be none to translate, let him keep silence in assembly, and, unto himself, be speaking, and, unto God!
28 Mas, se não houver alguém que possa interpretar, devem permanecer calados na reunião da igreja, falando com Deus em particular.
29 Prophets, moreover, let two or three speak, and let, the others, judge.
29 Que dois ou três profetizem e os outros avaliem o que for dito.
30 If, however, unto another, a revelation be made, as he is sitting, let the first be silent;
30 Se alguém estiver profetizando e outra pessoa receber uma revelação, quem está falando deve se calar.
31 For, one by one, ye can, all, be prophesying,that, all, may learn, and, all, be encouraged.
31 Desse modo, todos que profetizam terão sua vez de falar, um depois do outro, para que todos sejam instruídos e encorajados.
32 And, spirits of prophets, unto prophets, do submit themselves;
32 Aqueles que profetizam têm controle de seu espírito e podem falar um por vez.
33 For God is not
33 Pois Deus não é Deus de desordem, mas de paz, como em todas as reuniões do povo santo.
34 As for the women, in the assemblies, let them be silent, for it is not permitted them to be speaking; but let them be in submission,even as, the law, saith.
34 As mulheres devem permanecer em silêncio durante as reuniões da igreja. Não é apropriado que falem. Devem ser submissas, como diz a lei.
35 If, however, they are wishing to learn something, at home, their own husbands, let them question; for it is a shame for a woman to be speaking in assembly.
35 Se tiverem alguma pergunta, devem fazê-la ao marido, em casa, pois não é apropriado que as mulheres falem nas reuniões da igreja.
36 Or, from you, did the word of God come forth? Or, unto you alone, did it extend?
36 Ou vocês pensam que a palavra de Deus se originou entre vocês? Acaso são os únicos aos quais ela foi entregue?
37 If anyone thinketh himself to be a prophet, or spiritually gifted, let him acknowledge the things which I am writing to you,that they are, a commandment, of the Lord.
37 Se alguém afirma ser profeta ou se considera espiritual, será o primeiro a reconhecer que o que lhes digo é uma ordem do Senhor.
38 But, if anyone knoweth not, he is unknown!
38 Se alguém ignorar esse fato, ele mesmo será ignorado.
39 So, then, my brethren,be zealous to prophesy, and do not forbid, to be speaking with tongues;
39 Portanto, meus irmãos, anseiem profetizar e não proíbam o falar em línguas,
40 But let, all things, with comeliness, and by arrangement, be done.
40 mas cuidem para que tudo seja feito com decência e ordem.
