1 What then is the superiority of the Jew? What is the benefit of circumcision?
1 Então qual é a vantagem de ser judeu? Será que ser circuncidado tem algum valor?
2 Much in every way. First they were entrusted with the oracles of God.
2 Tem, sim, e de muitas maneiras! E a primeira vantagem é que Deus entregou a sua mensagem aos cuidados dos judeus.
3 For what? If some have not believed, will their unbelief make the faith of God of no effect?
3 Mas, se alguns não foram fiéis, será que por isso Deus vai ser infiel?
4 Certainly not! But let God be true, and every man false. It is written: So that you should be proved righteous in your words and should overcome when you are judged.
4 De modo nenhum! Que Deus continue a ser verdadeiro, mesmo que todas as pessoas sejam mentirosas. Como dizem as Escrituras Sagradas a respeito dele: “Que fique provado que tu tens razão quando falas e que sejas vencedor quando fores julgado.”
5 If our unrighteousness defines Gods righteousness more clearly, what shall we say? God is not unrighteous when he vents his anger is he? I speak in human terms.
5 Mas, se as injustiças que cometemos servem para mostrar que Deus age com justiça, o que é que podemos dizer? Que Deus é injusto quando nos castiga? (Eu falo aqui como as pessoas costumam falar.)
6 Not at all! For how will God judge the world?
6 É claro que não! Se Deus não fosse justo, como poderia julgar o mundo?
7 But what if my untruth serves Gods glory by making his truth stand out more clearly? Why should I be condemned as a sinner?
7 Mas digamos que a minha mentira faz com que a verdade de Deus fique mais clara, aumentando assim a glória dele. Nesse caso, por que é que devo ainda ser condenado como pecador?
8 Why not say, »Let us do evil so that good may come?« Some people have insulted me by accusing me of saying this very thing! They should be condemned and they will be.
8 Então por que não dizer: “Façamos o mal para que desse mal venha o bem”? Na verdade alguns têm me caluniado, dizendo que eu afirmo isso. Porém eles serão condenados como merecem.
9 Are we Jews in any better condition than the people of the nations? Not at all! I have already shown that Jews and the people of the nations are all under the power of sin.
9 Então será que nós, os judeus, estamos em melhor situação do que os não judeus? De modo nenhum! Já mostrei que todos, judeus e não judeus, estão debaixo do poder do pecado.
10 The Scriptures say: »There is no one who is righteous,
10 Como dizem as Escrituras Sagradas: “Não há uma só pessoa que faça o que é certo;
11 »There is no one who has insight. No one seeks God!
11 não há ninguém que tenha juízo; não há ninguém que adore a Deus.
12 »All have turned away from God; they have all done wrong. No one does what is right, not even one.« (Psalm 53:3)
12 Todos se desviaram do caminho certo, todos se perderam. Não há mais ninguém que faça o bem, não há ninguém mesmo.
13 »Their throat is an open grave. They have practiced deceit with their tongues. The poison of snakes is under their lips.« (Psalm 5:9)
13 Todos mentem e enganam sem parar. Da língua deles saem mentiras perversas, e dos seus lábios saem palavras de morte, como se fossem veneno de cobra.
14 »Their mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.« (Psalm 10:7)
14 A boca deles está cheia de terríveis maldições.
15 »Their feet are swift to shed blood.« (Proverbs 1:15)
15 Eles se apressam para matar.
16 »Destruction and misery are in their ways.« (Isaiah 59:7)
16 Por onde passam, deixam a destruição e a desgraça.
17 »They have not known the way of peace.« (Isaiah 59:7, 8)
17 Não conhecem o caminho da paz
18 There is no respect reverence for God before their eyes. (Psalm 36:1)
18 e não aprenderam a temer a Deus .”
19 We know that whatever the law says, it speaks to those under the law. Every mouth may be stopped and the entire world may become liable to God for punishment.
19 Nós sabemos que tudo o que a lei diz é dito para os que vivem debaixo da lei. Isso a fim de que todos parem de se justificar e a fim de que todas as pessoas do mundo fiquem debaixo do julgamento de Deus.
20 No flesh will be justified before God by works of the law. Knowledge of sin comes from the law.
20 Pois ninguém é aceito por Deus por fazer o que a lei manda, porque a lei faz com que as pessoas saibam que são pecadoras.
21 But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets.
21 Mas agora Deus já mostrou que o meio pelo qual ele aceita as pessoas não tem nada a ver com lei . A Lei de Moisés e os Profetas dão testemunho do seguinte:
22 God makes people righteous through their active faith in Jesus Christ. God does this to all who believe in Christ, because there is no difference at all.
22 Deus aceita as pessoas por meio da fé que elas têm em Jesus Cristo. É assim que ele trata todos os que creem, pois não existe nenhuma diferença entre as pessoas.
23 For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God
23 Todos pecaram e estão afastados da presença gloriosa de Deus.
24 being justified freely by his grace as a gift through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
24 Mas, pela sua graça e sem exigir nada, Deus aceita todos por meio de Cristo Jesus, que os salva. Deus ofereceu Cristo como sacrifício para que, pela sua morte na cruz, Cristo se tornasse o meio de as pessoas receberem o perdão dos seus pecados, pela fé nele. Deus quis mostrar com isso que ele é justo. No passado ele foi paciente e não castigou as pessoas por causa dos seus pecados; mas agora, pelo sacrifício de Cristo, Deus mostra que é justo. Assim ele é justo e aceita os que creem em Jesus.
25 God displayed Christ publicly as propitiation atonement by his blood through faith. It demonstrated his righteousness. It was through the forbearance of God that he passed by the sins that had taken place before.

26 It showed his righteousness at this present season that he might himself be righteous, and the justifier of he who has faith in Jesus.

27 Where is the boasting? It is excluded. Is it by law? Is it by works? No, it is by a principle of faith.
27 Será que temos motivo para ficarmos orgulhosos? De modo nenhum! E por que não? Será que é porque obedecemos à lei? Não; não é. É porque cremos em Cristo.
28 We reason therefore that a man is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.
28 Assim percebemos que a pessoa é aceita por Deus pela fé e não por fazer o que a lei manda.
29 Or is God the God of the Jews only? Is he not the God of the nations also? Yes, of the nations also.
29 Ou será que Deus é somente Deus dos judeus? Será que não é também Deus dos não judeus? Claro que é!
30 If God is one he will justify the circumcised by faith, and the uncircumcised through faith.
30 Deus é um só e aceitará os judeus na base da sua fé e também aceitará os não judeus por meio da fé que eles têm.
31 Do we nullify the law through faith? No we do not! In fact, we establish continuestand byuphold the law.
31 Será que isso quer dizer que, por causa da fé, nós tratamos a lei como se ela não valesse nada? Não; de modo nenhum! Pelo contrário, afirmamos que a lei tem valor.
