2 »Are all these words to go unanswered? Is this talker to be vindicated?
2 Ficará sem resposta o que fala muito, dar-se-á razão ao grande falador?
3 »Should your idle talk reduce men to silence? Should no one rebuke you when you mock?
3 Tua loquacidade fará calar a gente; zombarás sem que ninguém te repreenda?
4 »You say to God: My beliefs are flawless and I am pure in your sight.
4 Dizes: Minha opinião é a verdadeira, sou puro a teus olhos.
5 »How I wish that God would speak, that he would open his lips against you
5 Oh! Se Deus pudesse falar, e abrir seus lábios para te responder,
6 and disclose to you the secrets of wisdom, for true wisdom has two sides. Know this: God has even forgotten some of your sin.
6 revelar-te os mistérios da sabedoria que são ambíguos para o espírito, saberias então que Deus esquece uma parte de tua iniqüidade.
7 »Can you fathom the mysteries of God? Can you probe the limits of the Almighty?
7 Pretendes sondar as profundezas divinas, atingir a perfeição do Todo-poderoso?
8 »They are higher than the heavens. What can you do? They are deeper than the depths of the grave. What can you know?
8 Ela é mais alta do que o céu: que farás? É mais profunda que os infernos: como a conhecerás?
9 »Their measure is longer than the earth and wider than the sea.
9 É mais longa que a terra, mais larga que o mar.
10 »Who can oppose the one who passes by and confines you in prison and convenes a court?
10 Se ele surge para aprisionar, se apela à justiça, quem o impedirá?
11 »He recognizes deceitful men. When he sees evil, does he not take note?
11 Pois ele conhece os malfeitores, descobre a iniqüidade, presta atenção.
12 »An empty headed man can no more become wise than a wild donkeys colt can be born a man.
12 Diante disso, uma cabeça oca poderia compreender, um asno tornar-se-ia razoável.
13 »Yet if you devote your heart to him and stretch out your hands to him,
13 Se voltares teu coração para Deus, e para ele estenderes os braços;
14 if you put away the sin that is in your hand and allow no evil to dwell in your tent,
14 se afastares de tuas mãos o mal, e não abrigares a iniqüidade debaixo de tua tenda,
15 then you will lift up your face without shame. You will stand firm without fear.
15 então poderás erguer a fronte sem mancha; serás estável, sem mais nenhum temor.
16 »You will forget your trouble, recalling it only as waters gone by.
16 Esquecerás daí por diante as tuas penas: como águas que passaram, serão apenas uma lembrança;
17 »Life will be brighter than noonday, and darkness will become like morning.
17 o futuro te será mais brilhante do que o meio-dia, as trevas se mudarão em aurora;
18 »You will be secure because there is hope. You will look about you and take your rest in safety.
18 terás confiança e ficarás cheio de esperança: olhando em volta de ti, dormirás tranqüilo;
19 »You will lie down and no one will make you afraid. Many will entreat your favor.
19 repousarás sem que ninguém te inquiete muitos acariciarão teu rosto,
20 »But the eyes of the wicked will fail and they will not escape. Their hope will become a dying gasp.«
20 mas os olhos dos maus serão consumidos; para eles, nenhum refúgio; não terão outra esperança senão em seu último suspiro.
