1 Later Joseph was told that his father was ill. So he took his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim, and went to see Jacob.
1 Depois disso, vieram anunciar a José: "Teu pai está doente." Tomou então com ele seus dois filhos, Manassés e Efraim.
2 Jacob was told that his son Joseph had come to see him. He gathered his strength and sat up in bed.
2 Jacó foi avisado disso: "Eis, disseram-lhe, que o teu filho José vem te ver". Israel, reunindo suas forças, assentou-se no seu leito.
3 Jacob said to Joseph: »Almighty God appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me.
3 E disse a José: "O Deus todo-poderoso apareceu-me em Luz, na terra de Canaã, e abençoou-me.
4 »He promised: I will give you a large family with many descendants that will grow into a nation. I am giving you this land that will belong to you and your family from generation to generation.« Hebrew: olam olamlong lasting possession
4 Disse-me: Eu te tornarei fecundo e te multiplicarei até fazer de ti uma assembléia de povos, e darei esta terra à tua posteridade em possessão eterna.
5 Jacob went on to say: »Joseph, your two sons Ephraim and Manasseh were born in Egypt. But I accept them as my own, just as Reuben and Simeon are mine.
5 Agora, os dois filhos que te nasceram no Egito antes que eu viesse para junto de ti, são meus filhos: Efraim e Manassés são meus, com o mesmo título que Rubem e Simeão.
6 »Any children you have later will be considered yours. Their inheritance will come from Ephraim and Manasseh.
6 Os filhos, porém, que tiveste depois deles, são teus: é conforme o nome de seus irmãos que eles terão parte na repartição da herança.
7 »Your mother Rachel died in Canaan after we left northern Syria and before we reached Bethlehem. I had to bury her along the way.«
7 Quando eu voltava de Padã, tua mãe Raquel morreu em caminho, perto de mim, na terra de Canaã, a alguma distância de Efrata; foi ali que a enterrei, no caminho de Efrata, hoje Belém."
8 Then Israel saw Josephs sons. He asked Joseph: »Who are these boys?« Joseph answered:
8 Israel viu os filhos de José e disse: "Quem são estes?"
9 »They are my sons. God has given them to me here in Egypt.« »Bring them to me,« Jacob said. »I want to give them my blessing.« Joseph brought the boys to him.
9 "São, respondeu José, os filhos que Deus me deu aqui". "Faze-os aproximarem-se, para que eu os abençoe".
10 Israels eyesight was failing because of old age. He could hardly see. So Joseph brought his sons close to his father. Israel hugged them and kissed them.
10 Os olhos de Israel tinham-se enfraquecido tanto pela idade, que já não podia ver. José fê-los aproximarem-se dele e Israel, tomando-os em seus braços, beijou-os.
11 Israel said to Joseph: »I never expected to see you again. Now God has even let me see your sons.«
11 Depois disse a José: "Não esperava mais rever-te, e eis que Deus me fez ver teus filhos".
12 Joseph took them off his fathers lap and bowed with his face touching the ground.
12 José tirou-os dos joelhos de seu pai e prostrou-se com o rosto por terra.
13 Then Joseph took both of them, Ephraim on his right, facing Israels left, and Manasseh on his left, facing Israels right, and brought them close to him.
13 Tomou depois os dois, Efraim pela mão direita, para colocá-lo à esquerda de Israel, e Manassés pela mão esquerda, para colocá-lo à direita de Israel, e fê-los aproximarem-se.
14 But Israel crossed his hands and reached out. He put his right hand on Ephraims head, although Ephraim was the younger son. He put his left hand on Manassehs head, although Manasseh was older.
14 Mas Israel estendeu a mão direita e pô-la sobre a cabeça de Efraim, o caçula, e a mão esquerda sobre a cabeça de Manassés. Cruzou assim as mãos {porque Manassés era o primogênito}.
15 Jacob blessed Joseph. He said: »May God, in whose presence my grandfather Abraham and my father Isaac walked, may this God who has been my shepherd all my life to this very day,
15 Israel abençoou José, dizendo: "O Deus em cujo caminho andaram meus pais Abraão e Isaac, o Deus que tem sido o meu pastor durante toda a minha vida até este dia,
16 »May the being who rescued me from all evil bless these boys! May they be called by my name and by the names of my grandfather Abraham and my father Isaac. May they have many children on the earth.«
16 o anjo que me guardou de todo o mal, abençoe estes meninos! Seja perpetuado neles o meu nome e o de meus pais Abraão e Isaac, e multipliquem-se abundantemente nesta terra!"
17 Joseph saw that his father had put his right hand on Ephraims head. Joseph did not like it. So he took his fathers hand in order to move it from Ephraims head to Manassehs.
17 Vendo José que seu pai tinha colocado a mão direita sobre a cabeça de Efraim, contrariou-se e tomou a mão de seu pai para removê-la da cabeça de Efraim para a cabeça de Manassés.
18 He said to his father: »That is not right, Father! This is the firstborn. Put your right hand on his head.«
18 E disse-lhe: "Não assim, meu pai; é este aqui o primogênito; põe tua mão direita sobre sua cabeça".
19 His father refused and said: »I know, Son, I know! Manasseh, too, will become a nation. He, too, will be important. Nevertheless, his younger brother will be more important than he. His descendants will become many nations.«
19 Seu pai, porém, recusou: "Eu sei, meu filho, disse ele, eu sei. Ele também se tornará um povo e será grande; mas seu irmão mais novo crescerá mais do que ele e sua posteridade tornar-se-á uma multidão de nações".
20 That day he blessed them. He said: »Because of you, Israel will speak this blessing: May God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh! In this way Israel put Ephraim ahead of Manasseh.«
20 Abençoou-os, pois, naquele dia, e disse: "Israel vos nomeará em suas bênçãos; dir-se-á: Deus te torne semelhante a Efraim e a Manassés". Foi assim que ele pôs Efraim na frente de Manassés.
21 Then Israel said to Joseph: »I am about to die. God will be with you. He will bring you back to the land of your fathers.
21 Israel disse a José: "Vou morrer. Mas Deus estará convosco e vos reconduzirá à terra de vossos pais.
22 »I am giving you one more mountain ridge than your brothers. I took it from the Amorites with my own sword and bow.«
22 Dou-te a mais que teus irmãos, uma porção que conquistei aos amorreus com minha espada e meu arco".
