1 Later Joseph was told that his father was ill. So he took his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim, and went to see Jacob.
1 E aconteceu, depois destas coisas, que alguém contou a José: Eis que teu pai está enfermo. E ele tomou seus dois filhos, Manassés e Efraim.
2 Jacob was told that his son Joseph had come to see him. He gathered his strength and sat up in bed.
2 E alguém contou a Jacó: Eis que teu filho José vem a ti. E Israel se fortaleceu, e sentou-se sobre a sua cama.
3 Jacob said to Joseph: »Almighty God appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me.
3 E Jacó disse a José: O Deus Todo-Poderoso me apareceu em Luz, na terra de Canaã, e me abençoou,
4 »He promised: ‘I will give you a large family with many descendants that will grow into a nation. I am giving you this land that will belong to you and your family from generation to generation.’« Hebrew: olam olamlong lasting possession
4 e me disse: Eis que eu te farei frutificar e te multiplicarei, e farei de ti uma multidão de povos, e darei esta terra à tua semente depois de ti por possessão eterna.
5 Jacob went on to say: »Joseph, your two sons Ephraim and Manasseh were born in Egypt. But I accept them as my own, just as Reuben and Simeon are mine.
5 E agora teus dois filhos, Efraim e Manassés, que te nasceram na terra do Egito, antes de eu vir a ti no Egito, são meus. Assim como Rúben e Simeão, eles serão meus.
6 »Any children you have later will be considered yours. Their inheritance will come from Ephraim and Manasseh.
6 Mas a tua descendência, que gerares depois deles, serão teus, e serão chamados segundo o nome de teus irmãos na sua herança.
7 »Your mother Rachel died in Canaan after we left northern Syria and before we reached Bethlehem. I had to bury her along the way.«
7 Quanto a mim, quando eu vim de Padã, Raquel morreu junto a mim na terra de Canaã, no caminho, quando ainda havia somente um pequeno caminho para chegar a Efrata. E eu a sepultei ali no caminho de Efrata; esta é Belém.
8 Then Israel saw Joseph’s sons. He asked Joseph: »Who are these boys?« Joseph answered:
8 E Israel viu os filhos de José, e disse: Quem são estes?
9 »They are my sons. God has given them to me here in Egypt.« »Bring them to me,« Jacob said. »I want to give them my blessing.« Joseph brought the boys to him.
9 E José disse a seu pai: Estes são meus filhos, que Deus me deu neste lugar. E ele disse: Traze-os a mim, rogo-te, e eu os abençoarei.
10 Israel’s eyesight was failing because of old age. He could hardly see. So Joseph brought his sons close to his father. Israel hugged them and kissed them.
10 Ora, os olhos de Israel estavam escurecidos pela idade, de modo que ele não podia ver. E ele os levou para perto dele; e ele os beijou, e os abraçou.
11 Israel said to Joseph: »I never expected to see you again. Now God has even let me see your sons.«
11 E Israel disse a José: Eu não havia pensado em ver a tua face, e eis que Deus me mostrou também tua semente.
12 Joseph took them off his father’s lap and bowed with his face touching the ground.
12 E José os tirou dentre os seus joelhos, e ele se curvou com sua face em terra.
13 Then Joseph took both of them, Ephraim on his right, facing Israel’s left, and Manasseh on his left, facing Israel’s right, and brought them close to him.
13 E José tomou os dois, Efraim em sua mão direita, em direção à esquerda de Israel, e Manassés na sua mão esquerda, em direção à direita de Israel, e os levou para perto dele.
14 But Israel crossed his hands and reached out. He put his right hand on Ephraim’s head, although Ephraim was the younger son. He put his left hand on Manasseh’s head, although Manasseh was older.
14 E Israel estendeu sua mão direita, e a colocou sobre a cabeça de Efraim, que era o mais jovem, e sua mão esquerda sobre a cabeça de Manassés, guiando suas mãos conscientemente, pois Manassés era o primogênito.
15 Jacob blessed Joseph. He said: »May God, in whose presence my grandfather Abraham and my father Isaac walked, may this God who has been my shepherd all my life to this very day,
15 E ele abençoou José, e disse: Deus, diante do qual andaram meus pais Abraão e Isaque, o Deus que me sustentou toda a minha longa vida até este dia,
16 »May the being who rescued me from all evil bless these boys! May they be called by my name and by the names of my grandfather Abraham and my father Isaac. May they have many children on the earth.«
16 o anjo que me redimiu de todo o mal, abençoe os rapazes; e permita que meu nome seja colocado neles, e o nome de meus pais Abraão e Isaque; e que os faça crescer em uma multidão no meio da terra.
17 Joseph saw that his father had put his right hand on Ephraim’s head. Joseph did not like it. So he took his father’s hand in order to move it from Ephraim’s head to Manasseh’s.
17 E quando José viu que o seu pai colocou sua mão direita sobre a cabeça de Efraim, isso o desagradou. E ele levantou a mão de seu pai, para removê-la de sobre a cabeça de Efraim para a cabeça de Manassés.
18 He said to his father: »That is not right, Father! This is the firstborn. Put your right hand on his head.«
18 E José disse a seu pai: Assim não, meu pai, pois este é o primogênito; põe tua mão direita sobre a cabeça dele.
19 His father refused and said: »I know, Son, I know! Manasseh, too, will become a nation. He, too, will be important. Nevertheless, his younger brother will be more important than he. His descendants will become many nations.«
19 E seu pai se recusou, e disse: Eu sei, meu filho, eu sei. Ele também se tornará um povo, e ele também será grande. Mas em verdade seu irmão mais jovem será maior do que ele, e sua semente se tornará uma multidão de nações.
20 That day he blessed them. He said: »Because of you, Israel will speak this blessing: ‘May God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh!’ In this way Israel put Ephraim ahead of Manasseh.«
20 E ele os abençoou naquele dia, dizendo: Em ti abençoará Israel, dizendo: Deus te faça como Efraim e Manassés, e ele colocou Efraim diante de Manassés.
21 Then Israel said to Joseph: »I am about to die. God will be with you. He will bring you back to the land of your fathers.
21 E Israel disse a José: Eis que eu morro, mas Deus estará convosco, e vos levará novamente à terra de vossos pais.
22 »I am giving you one more mountain ridge than your brothers. I took it from the Amorites with my own sword and bow.«
22 Além disso, eu tenho dado a ti uma porção a mais que a teus irmãos, que eu tirei da mão dos amorreus com a minha espada e com o meu arco.
