1 Samuel 8

1 When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons as Israel's leaders. [^1]
1 E sucedeu que, quando Samuel ficou velho, ele fez dos seus filhos juízes sobre Israel.
2 The name of his firstborn was Joel and the name of his second was Abijah, and they served at Beersheba.
2 Ora, o nome do seu primogênito era Joel; e o nome do seu segundo, Abias; eles eram juízes em Berseba.
3 But his sons did not follow his ways. They turned aside after dishonest gain and accepted bribes and perverted justice.
3 E os seus filhos não andaram nos seus caminhos, mas se desviaram atrás da ganância, e receberam subornos, e perverteram o juízo.
4 So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah.
4 Então, todos os anciãos de Israel se reuniram, e vieram a Samuel até Ramá,
5 They said to him, "You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king to lead "us, such as all the other nations have."
5 e lhe disseram: Eis que és velho e os teus filhos não andam nos teus caminhos; agora, prepara-nos um rei para nos julgar, como todas as nações.
6 But when they said, "Give us a king to lead us," this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the LORD.
6 Mas aquilo desagradou Samuel, quando eles disseram: Dá-nos um rei para nos julgar. E Samuel orou ao SENHOR.
7 And the LORD told him: "Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king.
7 E o SENHOR disse a Samuel: Atenta à voz do povo em tudo o que te dizem; pois não rejeitaram a ti, mas rejeitaram a mim, para que eu não reine sobre eles.
8 As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you.
8 De acordo com todas as obras que eles fizeram desde o dia que os tirei do Egito até este dia, com as quais eles abandonaram e serviram a outros deuses, assim também fazem a ti.
9 Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will claim as his rights."
9 Agora, portanto, atenta à sua voz; todavia, mesmo assim, protesta solenemente diante deles, e mostra-lhes a conduta do rei que reinará sobre eles.
10 Samuel told all the words of the LORD to the people who were asking him for a king.
10 E Samuel disse todas as palavras do SENHOR ao povo que lhe pedia um rei.
11 He said, "This is what the king who will reign over you will claim as his rights: He will take your sons and make them serve with his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots.
11 E ele disse: Esta será a conduta do rei que reinará sobre vós: Ele tomará os vossos filhos, e os indicará para si mesmo, para as suas carruagens, e para serem os seus cavaleiros; e alguns correrão adiante das suas carruagens.
12 Some he will assign to be commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties, and others to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and still others to make weapons of war and equipment for his chariots.
12 E ele indicará para si mesmo capitães sobre milhares, e capitães sobre cinquenta; e os porá para cultivar o seu solo, e ceifar a sua colheita, e para fazer os seus instrumentos de guerra, e instrumentos das suas carruagens.
13 He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers.
13 E ele tomará as vossas filhas para serem confeiteiras, e para serem cozinheiras, e para serem padeiras.
14 He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his attendants.
14 E ele tomará os vossos campos, e os vossos vinhedos, e os vossos olivais, até o melhor deles, e os dará aos seus servos.
15 He will take a tenth of your grain and of your vintage and give it to his officials and attendants.
15 E ele tomará o dízimo da vossa semente, e dos vossos vinhedos, e o dará aos seus oficiais, e aos seus servos.
16 Your male and female servants and the best of your cattle "and donkeys he will take for his own use.
16 E ele tomará os vossos servos, e as vossas servas, e os vossos melhores jovens, e os vossos jumentos, e os porá ao seu trabalho.
17 He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves.
17 Ele tomará o dízimo das vossas ovelhas; e vós sereis seus servos.
18 When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, but the LORD will not answer you in that day."
18 E, naquele dia, clamareis por causa do vosso rei o qual escolhestes para vós; e o SENHOR não vos ouvirá naquele dia.
19 But the people refused to listen to Samuel. "No!" they said. "We want a king over us.
19 Todavia, o povo se recusava a obedecer a voz de Samuel; e dizia: Não, mas teremos um rei sobre nós;
20 Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles."
20 para que nós também possamos ser como todas as nações; e para que o nosso rei possa nos julgar, e sair adiante de nós, e lutar nas nossas batalhas.
21 When Samuel heard all that the people said, he repeated it before the LORD.
21 E Samuel ouviu todas as palavras do povo, e ele as relatou aos ouvidos do SENHOR.
22 The LORD answered, "Listen to them and give them a king." Then Samuel said to the Israelites, "Everyone go back to your own town."
22 E o SENHOR disse a Samuel: Atenta para a voz deles, e prepara-lhes um rei. E Samuel disse aos homens de Israel: Ide vós, cada qual, à sua cidade.
