1 BOOK FOURTH: A prayer of Moses the man of God. Lord, a place of refuge hast thou been unto us in all generations.
1 Senhor, tu és o nosso refúgio, sempre, de geração em geração.
2 Before yet the mountains were brought forth, or thou hadst ever produced the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.
2 Antes de nascerem os montes e de criares a terra e o mundo, de eternidade a eternidade tu és Deus.
3 Thou turnest man to contrition, and sayest, Return ye children of men.
3 Fazes os homens voltarem ao pó, dizendo: "Retornem ao pó, seres humanos! "
4 For a thousand years are in thy eyes but as the yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.
4 De fato, mil anos para ti são como o dia de ontem que passou, como as horas da noite.
5 Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they grow like the grass which changeth.
5 Como uma correnteza, tu arrastas os homens; são breves como o sono; são como a relva que brota ao amanhecer;
6 In the morning it blossometh, and is changed: in the evening it is mowed off, and withereth.
6 germina e brota pela manhã, mas, à tarde, murcha e seca.
7 For thus are we consumed by thy anger, and by thy fury are we terrified.
7 Somos consumidos pela tua ira e aterrorizados pelo teu furor.
8 Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our concealed sins before the light of thy countenance.
8 Conheces as nossas iniqüidades; não escapam os nossos pecados secretos à luz da tua presença.
9 For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we consume our years like a word that is spoken.
9 Todos os nossos dias passam debaixo do teu furor; vão-se como um murmúrio.
10 The days of our years in this life are seventy years; and if by uncommon vigor they be eighty, yet is their greatness trouble and mishap; for it soon hasteneth off, and we fly away.
10 Os anos de nossa vida chegam a setenta, ou a oitenta para os que têm mais vigor; entretanto, são anos difíceis e cheios de sofrimento, pois a vida passa depressa, e nós voamos!
11 Who knoweth the strength of thy anger, and thy wrath which is like the fear of thee?
11 Quem conhece o poder da tua ira? Pois o teu furor é tão grande como o temor que te é devido.
12 Let us then know how to number our days, that we may obtain a heart endowed with wisdom.
12 Ensina-nos a contar os nossos dias para que o nosso coração alcance sabedoria.
13 Return, O Lord, how long yet? and bethink thee concerning thy servants.
13 Volta-te, Senhor! Até quando será assim? Tem compaixão dos teus servos!
14 O satisfy us in the morning with thy kindness, that we may be glad and rejoice throughout all our days.
14 Satisfaze-nos pela manhã com o teu amor leal, e todos os nossos dias cantaremos felizes.
15 Cause us to rejoice as many days as those wherein thou hast afflicted us, the years wherein we have seen unhappiness.
15 Dá-nos alegria pelo tempo que nos afligiste, pelos anos em que tanto sofremos.
16 Let thy act be visible on thy servants, and thy majesty over their children.
16 Sejam manifestos os teus feitos aos teus servos, e aos filhos deles o teu esplendor!
17 And may the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us; and the work of our hands do thou firmly establish upon us: yea, the work of our handsfirmly establish thou it.
17 Esteja sobre nós a bondade do nosso Deus Soberano. Consolida, para nós, a obra de nossas mãos; consolida a obra de nossas mãos!
