1 BOOK FOURTH: A prayer of Moses the man of God. Lord, a place of refuge hast thou been unto us in all generations.
1 Oração de Moisés, o homem de Deus. Senhor, tu tens sido nossa habitação por todas as gerações.
2 Before yet the mountains were brought forth, or thou hadst ever produced the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.
2 Antes que os montes fossem gerados, ou que tu formasses a terra e o mundo, mesmo de eternidade a eternidade tu és Deus.
3 Thou turnest man to contrition, and sayest, Return ye children of men.
3 Tu levas o homem à destruição, e dizes: Retornai, vós filhos dos homens.
4 For a thousand years are in thy eyes but as the yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.
4 Porque mil anos à tua vista são como o dia de ontem, quando é passado, e como uma vigília à noite.
5 Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they grow like the grass which changeth.
5 Tu os carregas para longe como uma enchente; eles são como um sono; de manhã eles são como a grama que cresce.
6 In the morning it blossometh, and is changed: in the evening it is mowed off, and withereth.
6 Pela manhã ela floresce, e cresce; à tarde é cortada e murcha.
7 For thus are we consumed by thy anger, and by thy fury are we terrified.
7 Pois somos consumidos por tua ira, e pela tua cólera somos atribulados.
8 Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our concealed sins before the light of thy countenance.
8 Tu estabeleceste nossas iniquidades diante de ti, nossos pecados secretos à luz do teu semblante.
9 For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we consume our years like a word that is spoken.
9 Pois todos os nossos dias passam em tua ira; passamos nossos anos como um conto que é contado.
10 The days of our years in this life are seventy years; and if by uncommon vigor they be eighty, yet is their greatness trouble and mishap; for it soon hasteneth off, and we fly away.
10 Os dias dos nossos anos são setenta anos; e se por causa do vigor, chegam a oitenta anos, mas toda sua força é afã e tristeza, porque logo passam, e voamos para longe.
11 Who knoweth the strength of thy anger, and thy wrath which is like the fear of thee?
11 Quem conhece o poder da tua ira? Assim de acordo com o teu temor, também é tua cólera.
12 Let us then know how to number our days, that we may obtain a heart endowed with wisdom.
12 Então, ensina-nos a numerar nossos dias, para que possamos aplicar nossos corações sábios.
13 Return, O Lord, how long yet? and bethink thee concerning thy servants.
13 Retorna, ó SENHOR, por quanto tempo? E arrepende-te em relação aos teus servos.
14 O satisfy us in the morning with thy kindness, that we may be glad and rejoice throughout all our days.
14 Ó satisfaz-nos cedo com a tua misericórdia; para que possamos nos regozijar e sermos felizes todos os nossos dias.
15 Cause us to rejoice as many days as those wherein thou hast afflicted us, the years wherein we have seen unhappiness.
15 Faz-nos felizes de acordo com os dias em que tu nos afligiste, e os anos em que vimos o mal.
16 Let thy act be visible on thy servants, and thy majesty over their children.
16 Que a tua obra apareça aos teus servos, e a tua glória aos seus filhos.
17 And may the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us; and the work of our hands do thou firmly establish upon us: yea, the work of our handsfirmly establish thou it.
17 E seja sobre nós a beleza do SENHOR nosso Deus; e estabelece sobre nós a obra das nossas mãos; sim, estabelece tu a obra das nossas mãos.
