¹ Then answered Job, and said,

¹ Jó, porém, respondeu, dizendo:

² What assistance hast thou given to the powerless? how hast thou helped the arm without strength?

² Como ajudaste aquele que não tinha força, e sustentaste o braço que não tinha vigor?

³ How hast thou counselled the unwise? and what sound wisdom hast thou made known so plentifully?

³ Como aconselhaste aquele que não tinha sabedoria, e plenamente fizeste saber a causa, assim como era?

⁴ To whom hast thou told words? and whose spirit came from thee?

⁴ A quem proferiste palavras, e de quem é o espírito que saiu de ti?

⁵ The departed are called into being beneath the waters, and their inhabitants.

⁵ Os mortos tremem debaixo das águas, com os seus moradores.

⁶ Naked is the nether world before him, and there is no covering for the place of corruption.

⁶ O inferno está nu perante ele, e não há coberta para a perdição.

⁷ He stretched out the north over empty space; he suspended the earth on nothing;

⁷ O norte estende sobre o vazio; e suspende a terra sobre o nada.

⁸ He bound up the waters in his clouds; and the cloud bursteth not under their weight;

⁸ Prende as águas nas suas nuvens, todavia a nuvem não se rasga debaixo delas.

⁹ He closed up the surface of his throne, spreading over it his cloud;

⁹ Encobre a face do seu trono, e sobre ele estende a sua nuvem.

¹⁰ A fixed limit he compassed off over the face of the waters, for the division of the light and darkness.

¹⁰ Marcou um limite sobre a superfície das águas em redor, até aos confins da luz e das trevas.

¹¹ The pillars of heaven tremble greatly, and are astounded at his rebuke.

¹¹ As colunas do céu tremem, e se espantam da sua ameaça.

¹² By his power he split in pieces the sea, and by his understanding he crushed its pride:

¹² Com a sua força fende o mar, e com o seu entendimento abate a soberba.

¹³ By his breath the heavens acquired beauty; his hand hath created the flying serpent.

¹³ Pelo seu Espírito ornou os céus; a sua mão formou a serpente enroscadiça.

¹⁴ Lo, these are ends of his ways; for how slight a whisper is heard by us of him! but the thunder of his mighty deeds who can understand?

¹⁴ Eis que isto são apenas as orlas dos seus caminhos; e quão pouco é o que temos ouvido dele! Quem, pois, entenderia o trovão do seu poder?
