1 He that separateth himself seeketh his own desire, and snarlest against all sound wisdom.
1 Aquele que vive isolado busca seu próprio desejo; insurge-se contra a verdadeira sabedoria.
2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but only that his heart may lay itself bare.
2 O tolo não toma prazer no entendimento, mas tão somente em revelar a sua opinião.
3 When the wicked cometh, there cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.
3 Quando vem o ímpio, vem também o desprezo; e com a desonra vem o opróbrio.
4 The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters; a flowing brook, a fountain of wisdom.
4 Águas profundas são as palavras da boca do homem; e a fonte da sabedoria é um ribeiro que corre.
5 It is not good to respect the person of the wicked, so as to turn aside the righteous in judgment.
5 Não é bom ter respeito à pessoa do ímpio, nem privar o justo do seu direito.
6 A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.
6 Os lábios do tolo entram em contendas, e a sua boca clama por açoites.
7 A fool's mouth is his ruin, and his lips are the snare of his soul.
7 A boca do tolo é a sua própria destruição, e os seus lábios um laço para a sua alma.
8 The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
8 As palavras do difamador são como bocados doces, que penetram até o íntimo das entranhas.
9 Even one that is slack in his work is brother to him that is a destroyer.
9 Aquele que é remisso na sua obra é irmão do que é destruidor.
10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is set up on high.
10 Torre forte é o nome do Senhor; para ela corre o justo, e está seguro.
11 The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as a high wall in his own conceit.
11 Os bens do rico são a sua cidade forte, e como um muro alto na sua imaginação.
12 Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty, and before honour goeth humility.
12 Antes da ruína eleva-se o coração do homem; e adiante da honra vai a humildade.
13 He that giveth answer before he heareth, it is folly and confusion unto him.
13 Responder antes de ouvir, é estultícia e vergonha.
14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a broken spirit who can bear?
14 O espírito do homem o sustentará na sua enfermidade; mas ao espírito abatido quem o levantará?
15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
15 O coração do entendido adquire conhecimento; e o ouvido dos sábios busca conhecimento;
16 A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
16 O presente do homem alarga-lhe o caminho, e leva-o à presença dos grandes.
17 He that pleadeth his cause first seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him out.
17 O que primeiro começa o seu pleito parece justo; até que vem o outro e o examina.
18 The lot causeth strife to cease, and parteth asunder the contentious.
18 A sorte faz cessar os pleitos, e decide entre os poderosos.
19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city; and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.
19 um irmão ajudado pelo irmão é como uma cidade fortificada; é forte como os ferrolhos dum castelo.
20 A man's belly shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth; with the increase of his lips shall he be satisfied.
20 O homem se fartará do fruto da sua boca; dos renovos dos seus lábios se fartará.
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue; and they that indulge it shall eat the fruit thereof.
21 A morte e a vida estão no poder da língua; e aquele que a ama comerá do seu fruto.
22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a great good, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.
22 Quem encontra uma esposa acha uma coisa boa; e alcança o favor do Senhor.
23 The poor useth entreaties; but the rich answereth impudently.
23 O pobre fala com rogos; mas o rico responde com durezas.
24 There are friends that one hath to his own hurt; but there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
24 O homem que tem muitos amigos, tem-nos para a sua ruína; mas há um amigo que é mais chegado do que um irmão.
