1 This is a record of the birth of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ happened in this way. When his mother Mary was engaged to Joseph, before they lived together she was discovered to be pregnant by the Holy Spirit.

20 After he had thought about it, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, don't be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for what has been conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
20 Enquanto ele pensava nisso, um anjo do Senhor lhe apareceu em sonho e disse: “José, filho de Davi, não tenha medo de receber Maria como esposa, pois a criança dentro dela foi concebida pelo Espírito Santo.
21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to name him Jesus, because he is the one who will save his people from their sins.”
21 Ela terá um filho, e você lhe dará o nome de Jesus, pois ele salvará seu povo dos seus pecados”.
22 Now all this happened to fulfill what was declared by the Lord through the prophet when he said,
22 Tudo isso aconteceu para cumprir o que o Senhor tinha dito por meio do profeta:
23 “See, a virgin will become pregnantand give birth to a son, and they will name him Immanuel,”which means, “God with us.”
23 “Vejam! A virgem ficará grávida! Ela dará à luz um filho, e o chamarão Emanuel, que significa ‘Deus conosco’”.
24 When Joseph got up from his sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary as his wife.
24 Quando José acordou, fez o que o anjo do Senhor lhe havia ordenado e recebeu Maria como esposa.
25 He did not have marital relations with her until she had given birth to a son; and he named him Jesus.
25 No entanto, não teve relações com ela até o menino nascer; e ele lhe deu o nome de Jesus.
