1 A good name is to be chosen aboue great riches, and louing fauour is aboue siluer and aboue golde.
1 Bom renome vale mais que grandes riquezas; a boa reputação vale mais que a prata e o ouro.
2 The rich and poore meete together: the Lord is the maker of them all.
2 Rico e pobre se encontram: foi o Senhor que criou a ambos.
3 A prudent man seeth the plague, and hideth himselfe: but the foolish goe on still, and are punished.
3 O homem prudente percebe a aproximação do mal e se abriga, mas os imprudentes passam adiante e recebem o dano.
4 The rewarde of humilitie, and the feare of God is riches, and glory, and life.
4 O prêmio da humildade é o temor do Senhor, a riqueza, a honra e a vida.
5 Thornes and snares are in the way of the frowarde: but he that regardeth his soule, will depart farre from them.
5 Espinhos e laços há no caminho do perverso; quem guarda sua vida retira-se para longe deles.
6 Teache a childe in the trade of his way, and when he is olde, he shall not depart from it.
6 Ensina à criança o caminho que ela deve seguir; mesmo quando envelhecer, dele não se há de afastar.
7 The rich ruleth the poore, and the borower is seruant to the man that lendeth.
7 O rico domina os pobres: o que toma emprestado torna-se escravo daquele que lhe emprestou.
8 He that soweth iniquitie, shall reape affliction, and the rodde of his anger shall faile.
8 Aquele que semeia o mal, recolhe o tormento: a vara de sua ira o ferirá.
9 He that hath a good eye, he shalbe blessed: for he giueth of his bread vnto the poore.
9 O homem benevolente será abençoado porque tira do seu pão para o pobre.
10 Cast out the scorner, and strife shall go out: so contention and reproche shall cease.
10 Expulsa o mofador e cessará a discórdia: ultrajes e litígios cessarão.
11 Hee that loueth purenesse of heart for the grace of his lippes, the King shalbe his friend.
11 Quem ama a pureza do coração, pela graça dos seus lábios, é amigo do rei.
12 The eyes of the Lord preserue knowledge: but hee ouerthroweth the wordes of the transgressour.
12 Os olhos do Senhor protegem a sabedoria, mas arruínam as palavras do pérfido.
13 The slouthfull man saith, A lyon is without, I shall be slaine in the streete.
13 Há um leão do lado de fora!, diz o preguiçoso, eu poderei ser morto na rua!
14 The mouth of strage women is as a deepe pit: he with whom the Lord is angry, shall fall therein.
14 A boca das meretrizes é uma cova profunda; nela cairá aquele contra o qual o Senhor se irar.
15 Foolishnesse is bounde in the heart of a childe: but the rodde of correction shall driue it away from him.
15 A loucura apega-se ao coração da criança; a vara da disciplina afastá-la-á dela.
16 Hee that oppresseth the poore to increase him selfe, and giueth vnto the riche, shall surely come to pouertie.
16 Quem oprime o pobre, enriquece-o. Quem dá ao rico, empobrece-o.
17 Incline thine eare, and heare the wordes of the wise, and apply thine heart vnto my knowledge.
17 Presta atenção às minhas palavras, aplica teu coração à minha doutrina,
18 For it shalbe pleasant, if thou keepe them in thy bellie, and if they be directed together in thy lippes.
18 porque é agradável que as guardes dentro de teu coração e que elas permaneçam, todas, presentes em teus lábios.
19 That thy confidence may be in the Lord, I haue shewed thee this day: thou therefore take heede.
19 É para que o Senhor seja tua confiança, que quero instruir-te hoje.
20 Haue not I written vnto thee three times in counsels and knowledge,
20 Desde muito tempo eu te escrevi conselhos e instruções,
21 That I might shewe thee the assurance of the wordes of trueth to answere the wordes of trueth to them that sende to thee?
21 para te ensinar a verdade das coisas certas, para que respondas certo àquele que te indaga.
22 Robbe not the poore, because hee is poore, neither oppresse the afflicted in iudgement.
22 Não despojes o pobre, porque é pobre, não oprimas o fraco à porta da cidade,
23 For the Lord will defende their cause, and spoyle the soule of those that spoyle them.
23 porque o Senhor pleiteará sua causa e tirará a vida aos que os despojaram.
24 Make no friendship with an angrie man, neither goe with the furious man,
24 Não faças amizade com um homem colérico, não andes com o violento,
25 Least thou learne his wayes, and receiue destruction to thy soule.
25 há o perigo de que aprendas os seus costumes e prepares um laço fatal.
26 Be not thou of them that touch the hand, nor among them that are suretie for debts.
26 Não sejas daqueles que se obrigam, apertando a mão, e se fazem fiadores de dívidas;
27 If thou hast nothing to paye, why causest thou that he should take thy bed from vnder thee?
27 se não tens com que pagar, arrebatar-te-ão teu leito debaixo de ti.
28 Thou shalt not remooue the ancient bounds which thy fathers haue made.
28 Não passes além dos marcos antigos que puseram teus pais.
29 Thou seest that a diligent man in his businesse standeth before Kings, and standeth not before the base sort.
29 Viste um homem hábil em sua obra? Ele entrará ao serviço dos reis, e não ficará entre gente obscura.
