1 And there was a sick man, Lazarus of Bethany, of the castle of Mary and Martha, his sisters, (or in the village of Mary and Martha, his sisters).
1 Um homem chamado Lázaro estava doente. Ele morava em Betânia com suas irmãs, Maria e Marta.
2 And it was Mary, which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hairs, whose brother Lazarus was sick.
2 Foi Maria, a irmã de Lázaro, que mais tarde derramou perfume caro nos pés do Senhor e os enxugou com os cabelos.
3 Therefore his sisters sent to him, and said, Lord, lo! he whom thou lovest, is sick.

4 And Jesus heard, and said to them, This sickness is not to the death, but for the glory of God, (so) that man’s Son be glorified by him [or \+sls (so)\+sls* that God’s Son be glorified by it].
4 Quando Jesus ouviu isso, disse: “A doença de Lázaro não acabará em morte. Ela aconteceu para a glória de Deus, para que o Filho de Deus receba glória por meio dela”.
5 And Jesus loved Martha, and her sister Mary, and Lazarus.
5 Jesus amava Marta, Maria e Lázaro.
6 Therefore when Jesus heard, that he was sick, then he dwelled in the same place (for) two days.
6 Ouvindo, portanto, que Lázaro estava doente, ficou mais dois dias onde estava.
7 And after these things he said to his disciples, Go we again into Judea.
7 Depois, disse a seus discípulos: “Vamos voltar para a Judeia”.
8 The disciples say to him, Master [or Rabbi], now the Jews sought to stone thee, and again goest thou thither? (The disciples said to him, Teacher, not long ago the Jews sought to stone thee there, and now thou goest there again?)
8 Os discípulos se opuseram, dizendo: “Rabi, apenas alguns dias atrás o povo da Judeia tentou apedrejá-lo. Ainda assim, o senhor vai voltar para lá?”.
9 Jesus answered, Whether there be not twelve hours of the day? (or Be there not twelve hours in the day?) If any man wander in the day [or Whoever walketh in the day], he hurteth not (himself), for he seeth the light of this world.
9 Jesus respondeu: “Há doze horas de claridade todos os dias. Durante o dia, as pessoas podem andar com segurança. Conseguem enxergar, pois têm a luz deste mundo.
10 But if he wander in the night (or But if he walk in the night), he stumbleth, for (the) light is not in (or with) him.
10 À noite, porém, correm o risco de tropeçar, pois não há luz”.
11 He said these things, and after these things he saith to them, Lazarus, our friend, sleepeth, but I go to raise him from sleep.
11 E acrescentou: “Nosso amigo Lázaro adormeceu, mas agora vou despertá-lo”.
12 Therefore his disciples said, Lord, if he sleepeth, he shall be safe. (And so his disciples said, Lord, if he sleepeth, then he shall be secure or he shall be whole again.)
12 Os discípulos disseram: “Senhor, se ele dorme é porque logo vai melhorar!”.
13 But Jesus had said of his death; but they guessed, that he said of [the] sleeping of sleep.
13 Pensavam que Jesus falava apenas do repouso do sono, mas ele se referia à morte de Lázaro.
14 Then therefore Jesus said to them openly, Lazarus is dead;
14 Então ele disse claramente: “Lázaro está morto.
15 and I have joy for you, that ye believe, for I was not there; but go we to him. (and I am happy for you, that your faith will increase, because I was not there; let us go to him.)
15 E, por causa de vocês, eu me alegro por não ter estado lá, pois agora vocês vão crer de fato. Venham, vamos até ele”.
16 Therefore Thomas, that is said Didymus, said to (his) even-disciples, Go we also, that we die with him. (And Thomas, who is called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, Let us also go, so that we can die with him.)
16 Tomé, apelidado de Gêmeo, disse aos outros discípulos: “Vamos até lá também para morrer com Jesus”.
17 And so Jesus came, and found him having then four days in the grave.
17 Quando Jesus chegou a Betânia, disseram-lhe que Lázaro estava no túmulo havia quatro dias.
18 And Bethany was beside Jerusalem, as it were fifteen furlongs.
18 Betânia ficava a cerca de três quilômetros de Jerusalém,
19 And many of the Jews came to Mary and Martha, to comfort them of their brother (or to comfort them over their brother’s death).

20 Therefore as Martha heard, that Jesus came, she ran to him; but Mary sat at home.
20 Quando Marta soube que Jesus estava chegando, foi ao seu encontro. Maria, porém, ficou em casa.
21 Therefore Martha said to Jesus, Lord, if thou haddest been here, my brother had not be dead, (or Lord, if thou haddest been here, my brother would not have died).
21 Marta disse a Jesus: “Se o Senhor estivesse aqui, meu irmão não teria morrido.
22 But now I know, that whatever things thou shalt ask of God, God shall give to thee.
22 Mas sei que, mesmo agora, Deus lhe dará tudo que pedir”.
23 Jesus saith to her, Thy brother shall rise again.
23 Jesus lhe disse: “Seu irmão vai ressuscitar”.
24 Martha saith to him, I know, that he shall rise again in the again-rising in the last day. (Martha said to him, I know, that he shall rise again at the resurrection on the Last Day.)
24 “Sim”, respondeu Marta. “Ele vai ressuscitar quando todos ressuscitarem, no último dia.”
25 Jesus saith to her, I am again-rising and life (or I am the resurrection and the life); he that believeth in me, yea, though he be dead, he shall live;
25 Então Jesus disse: “Eu sou a ressurreição e a vida. Quem crê em mim viverá, mesmo depois de morrer.
26 and each that liveth [or and all that liveth], and believeth in me, shall not die [into] without end. Believest thou this thing?
26 Quem vive e crê em mim jamais morrerá. Você crê nisso, Marta?”.
27 She saith to him, Yea, Lord, I have believed, that thou art Christ, the Son of the living God, that hast come into this world. (She said to him, Yes, Lord, I do believe, that thou art the Messiah, the Son of the living God, who hath come into this world.)
27 “Sim, Senhor”, respondeu ela. “Eu creio que o senhor é o Cristo, o Filho de Deus, aquele que veio ao mundo da parte de Deus.”
28 And when she had said this thing, she went, and called Mary, her sister, in silence, and said, The Master is come, and calleth thee. (And after she had said this, she went back home, and called aside her sister Mary, and said, The Teacher hath come, and calleth for thee.)
28 Em seguida, voltou para casa. Chamou Maria à parte e disse: “O Mestre está aqui e quer ver você”.
29 She, as she heard, arose anon (or got up at once), and came to him.
29 Maria se levantou de imediato e foi até ele.
30 And Jesus came not yet into the castle (or And Jesus was not yet in the village), but he was yet in that place, where Martha had come to meet him.
30 Jesus tinha ficado fora do povoado, no lugar onde Marta havia se encontrado com ele.
31 Therefore the Jews that were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose swiftly, and went out, they (pur)sued her (or they followed her), and said, For she goeth to the grave, to weep there.
31 Quando as pessoas que estavam na casa viram Maria sair apressadamente, imaginaram que ela ia ao túmulo de Lázaro chorar e a seguiram.
32 But when Mary was come (to) where Jesus was, she seeing him felled down to his feet, and said to him, Lord, if thou haddest been here, my brother had not be dead, (or Lord, if thou haddest been here, my brother would not have died).
32 Assim que chegou ao lugar onde Jesus estava e o viu, caiu a seus pés e disse: “Se o Senhor estivesse aqui, meu irmão não teria morrido”.
33 Therefore when Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews weeping that were with her, he made noise in (his) spirit (or he sighed loudly), and (he was) troubled himself,
33 Quando Jesus viu Maria chorar, e o povo também, sentiu profunda indignação e grande angústia.
34 and said, Where have ye laid him? They said to him, Lord, come, and see.
34 “Onde vocês o colocaram?”, perguntou. Eles responderam: “Senhor, venha e veja”.
35 And Jesus wept.
35 Jesus chorou.
36 Therefore the Jews said, Lo! how he loved him.
36 As pessoas que estavam por perto disseram: “Vejam como ele o amava!”.
37 And some of them said, Whether this man that opened the eyes of the born-blind man, might not make that this (man) should not die?
37 Outros, porém, disseram: “Este homem curou um cego. Não poderia ter impedido que Lázaro morresse?”.
38 Therefore Jesus again making noise in himself, came to the grave. And there was a den, and a stone was laid thereon. (And so Jesus again sighing loudly, came to the tomb. And it was a cave, and a stone was laid against the entrance to it.)
38 Jesus, sentindo-se novamente indignado, chegou ao túmulo, uma gruta com uma pedra fechando a entrada.
39 And Jesus saith, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith to him, Lord, he stinketh now, for he hath lain (there) four days [or soothly he is of four days dead].
39 “Rolem a pedra para o lado”, ordenou. “Senhor, ele está morto há quatro dias”, disse Marta, a irmã do falecido. “O mau cheiro será terrível.”
40 Jesus saith to her, Have I not said to thee, that if thou believest, thou shalt see the glory of God?
40 Jesus respondeu: “Eu não lhe disse que, se você cresse, veria a glória de Deus?”.
41 Therefore they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I do thankings to thee, (or Father, I give thanks to thee), for thou hast heard me;
41 Então rolaram a pedra para o lado. Jesus olhou para o céu e disse: “Pai, eu te agradeço porque me ouviste.
42 and I knew, that thou (for)evermore hearest me, (or and I know, that thou always hearest me), but for the people that standeth about, I said (this), (so) that they believe, that thou hast sent me.
42 Tu sempre me ouves, mas eu disse isso por causa de todas as pessoas que estão aqui, para que elas creiam que tu me enviaste”.
43 When he had said these things, he cried with a great voice, Lazarus, come forth, [or Lazarus, come thou out].
43 Então Jesus gritou: “Lázaro, venha para fora!”.
44 And anon he that was dead, came out, bound the hands and feet with bonds, and his face bound with a sudarium, [or \+sls (a)\+sls* sweating cloth], (or a napkin). And Jesus saith to them, Unbind ye him, and suffer ye him to go forth. (And at once he who was dead, came out, and his hands and his feet were bound with bonds, and his face was bound with a cloth. And Jesus said to them, Unbind him, and allow him to go forth.)
44 E o morto saiu, com as mãos e os pés presos com faixas e o rosto envolto num pano. Jesus disse: “Desamarrem as faixas e deixem-no ir!”.
45 Therefore many of the Jews that came to Mary and Martha, and saw what things Jesus did, believed in him.
45 Muitos dos judeus que estavam com Maria creram em Jesus quando viram isso.
46 But some of them went to the Pharisees, and said to them, what things Jesus had done.
46 Alguns, no entanto, foram aos fariseus e contaram o que Jesus tinha feito.
47 Therefore the bishops (or And so the high priests), and the Pharisees gathered a council against Jesus, and said, What do we (do)? for this man doeth many miracles [or many signs].
47 Então os principais sacerdotes e fariseus reuniram o conselho dos líderes do povo. “Que vamos fazer?”, perguntavam uns aos outros. “Sem dúvida, este homem realiza muitos sinais.
48 If we leave him thus, all men shall believe in him; and (then the) Romans shall come, and shall take (away) our place, and our folk. (If we leave him alone, everyone shall believe in him; and then the Romans shall come, and shall destroy our Temple, and our nation.)
48 Se permitirmos que continue assim, logo todos crerão nele. Então o exército romano virá e destruirá nosso templo e nossa nação.”
49 But one of them, Caiaphas by name, when he was bishop of that year (or who was the High Priest that year), said to them, Ye know nothing,
49 Caifás, o sumo sacerdote naquele ano, disse: “Vocês não sabem o que estão dizendo!
50 nor think, that it speedeth to you, that one man die for the people, and that all the folk perish not. (nor understand, that it is more expedient for you, that one man should die for the people, so that the whole nation shall not perish.)
50 Não percebem que é melhor para vocês que um homem morra pelo povo em vez de a nação inteira ser destruída?”.
51 But he said not this thing of himself, but when he was bishop of that year, he prophesied, that Jesus was to die for the folk, (But he did not say this of his own accord, but as he was the High Priest that year, he had prophesied, that Jesus was to die for the nation,)
51 Não disse isso por si mesmo, mas, sendo o sumo sacerdote naquele ano, profetizou que Jesus morreria pela nação inteira.
52 and not only for the folk (or and not only die for the nation), but that he should gather into one the sons of God that were scattered.
52 E não apenas por aquela nação, mas para reunir em um só corpo todos os filhos de Deus espalhados ao redor do mundo.
53 Therefore from that day (forth) they thought, (or sought), (or made plans) for (how) to slay him.
53 Daquele dia em diante, começaram a tramar a morte de Jesus.
54 Therefore Jesus walked not then openly among the Jews; but he went into a country(side) beside [the] desert (or but he went into the countryside near the desert), into a city, that is said Ephraim, and there he dwelled with his disciples.
54 Por essa razão, Jesus parou de andar no meio do povo. Foi para um lugar próximo do deserto, para o povoado de Efraim, onde permaneceu com seus discípulos.
55 And the pask of the Jews was nigh, and many of the country went up to Jerusalem before the pask, to hallow themselves. (And the Passover of the Jews was near, and many from the countryside, or and many from all over the country, went up to Jerusalem before the Passover, to sanctify or to purify themselves.)
55 Faltava pouco tempo para a festa judaica da Páscoa, e muita gente de toda a região chegou a Jerusalém para participar da cerimônia de purificação, antes que a Páscoa começasse.
56 Therefore they sought Jesus, and spake together, standing in the temple, What guess ye, for he cometh not to the feast day?
56 Continuavam procurando Jesus e, estando eles no templo, perguntavam uns aos outros: “O que vocês acham? Será que ele virá para a Páscoa?”.
57 For the bishops, and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that if any man know where he is, that he show (them), that they take him. (For the high priests, and the Pharisees had given an order, that if anyone knew where he was, that they should tell them, so that they could take hold of him.)
57 Enquanto isso, os principais sacerdotes e fariseus deram ordem para que, se alguém soubesse onde Jesus estava, o denunciasse de imediato, a fim de que o prendessem.
