1 And I ordained this [same] thing at me, that I should not come again in heaviness [or in sorrow] to you.
1 Porque decidi por mim mesmo o seguinte: não voltar a me encontrar com vocês em tristeza.
2 For if I make you sorry, [or heavy], who is he that gladdeth me, but he that is sorrowful of me? (For if I make you sorrowful, who is he who maketh me glad, but he whom I have made sorrowful?)
2 Porque, se eu entristeço vocês, quem me alegrará, senão aquele a quem tenho entristecido?
3 And this same thing I wrote to you, (so) that when I come, I have not sorrow on sorrow, of the which it behooved me to have joy. And I trust in you all, that my joy is of all you [or that my joy is of you all].
3 E escrevi isso para que, quando eu for, não seja entristecido por aqueles que deveriam me alegrar, confiando em todos vocês de que a minha alegria é também a alegria de vocês.
4 For of much tribulation and anguish of heart I wrote to you by many tears, not that ye be sorry, but that ye know what charity I have more plenteously in you. (For I wrote to you out of much trouble and anguish in my heart, and through many tears, not that ye be made sorrowful, but so that ye know of the love which I have most plentifully for you.)
4 Porque lhes escrevi no meio de muitos sofrimentos e angústia de coração, com muitas lágrimas, não para que vocês ficassem tristes, mas para que soubessem do amor que tenho por vocês.
5 For if any man hath made me sorrowful, he hath not made me sorrowful but a part [or but in part], that I charge not you all (or so that I do not be a burden to all of you).
5 Ora, se alguém causou tristeza, não o fez a mim, mas, para que eu não seja demasiadamente áspero, digo que em parte causou tristeza a todos vocês.
6 This blaming that is made of many, sufficeth to him, that is such one [or that is such a manner man];
6 Basta-lhe a punição imposta pela maioria.
7 so that on the contrary ye rather forgive and comfort (or strengthen), lest peradventure he that is such a manner man, be swallowed up, [or be sopped up, or despair], by more great heaviness.
7 De modo que, agora, pelo contrário, vocês devem perdoar e consolar, para que esse indivíduo não seja consumido por excessiva tristeza.
8 For which thing I beseech you, that ye confirm charity into him (or that ye confirm your love for him).
8 Por isso, peço que vocês confirmem o amor de vocês para com ele.
9 For why therefore I wrote this, that I know your proof, whether in all things ye be obedient.
9 E foi por isso também que eu lhes escrevi, para ter prova de que, em tudo, vocês são obedientes.
10 For to whom ye have forgiven anything, also I have forgiven. For I, that that I forgave, if I forgave anything, have forgiven for you in the person of Christ (or \+em have forgiven\+em* it for you in the presence of the Messiah),
10 A quem vocês perdoam alguma coisa, eu também perdoo. Pois o que perdoei, se é que perdoei alguma coisa, eu o fiz por causa de vocês na presença de Cristo,
11 that we be not deceived of Satan (or so that we be not deceived by Satan); for we know his thoughts.
11 para que Satanás não alcance vantagem sobre nós, pois não ignoramos quais são as intenções dele.
12 But when I was come to Troas for the gospel of Christ, and a door was opened to me in the Lord, (But when I had come to Troas with the Gospel, or the Good News, of the Messiah, and a door was opened to me by the Lord,)
12 Quando cheguei a Trôade para pregar o evangelho de Cristo, vi que uma porta se havia aberto para mim, no Senhor.
13 I had not rest to my spirit (or I had no rest for my spirit), for I found not my brother Titus, but I said to them farewell, and I passed (forth) into Macedonia.
13 No entanto, não tive tranquilidade no meu espírito, porque não encontrei o meu irmão Tito. Por isso, despedindo-me deles, parti para a Macedônia.
14 And I do thankings to God, that (for)evermore maketh us to have victory in Christ Jesus, and showeth by us the odour, [or \+sls (the)\+sls* savour, or \+sls (the)\+sls* sweetness], of his knowing in each place; (And I give thanks to God, who always maketh us to have victory in the Messiah Jesus, and showeth by us the aroma, \+em or the fragrance, or the sweetness\+em*, of his knowledge in every place;)
14 Graças, porém, a Deus, que, em Cristo, sempre nos conduz em triunfo e, por meio de nós, manifesta a fragrância do seu conhecimento em todos os lugares.
15 for we be the good odour, [or savour], of Christ to God, among these that be made safe, and among these that perish. (for we be the good aroma, \+em or the sweet fragrance\+em*, of the Messiah to God, among those who be saved, and among those who perish.)
15 Porque nós somos para com Deus o bom perfume de Cristo, tanto entre os que estão sendo salvos como entre os que estão se perdendo.
16 To other soothly, (or Truly to the one), [we be](the) odour of death into death, but to the other we be(the) odour of life into life. And to these things who is so able?
16 Para com estes, cheiro de morte para morte; para com aqueles, aroma de vida para vida. Quem, porém, é capaz de fazer estas coisas?
17 For we be not as [full] many, that do adultery by the word of God [or adulterating the word of God], but we speak of cleanness as of God, before God in Christ. (For we do not do like a great many, adulterating the word of God, but we speak with godly sincerity, before God in the Messiah.)
17 Porque nós não estamos, como tantos outros, mercadejando a palavra de Deus. Pelo contrário, em Cristo é que falamos na presença de Deus, com sinceridade e da parte do próprio Deus.
