GOD'S WORD (ENGGW) vs BKJ
1 Lazarus, who lived in Bethany, the village where Mary and her sister Martha lived, was sick.
1 Ora, havia um certo homem enfermo, chamado Lázaro, de Betânia, da aldeia de Maria e de sua irmã Marta.
2 (Mary was the woman who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair. Her brother Lazarus was the one who was sick.)
2 (Era aquela Maria que ungiu o Senhor com unguento, e secou os seus pés com os seus cabelos, cujo irmão, Lázaro, estava enfermo).
3 So the sisters sent a messenger to tell Jesus, “Lord, your close friend is sick.”
3 Portanto, suas irmãs enviaram até ele dizendo: Senhor, eis que está enfermo aquele que tu amas.
4 When Jesus heard the message, he said, “His sickness won’t result in death. Instead, this sickness will bring glory to God so that the Son of God will receive glory through it.”
4 Quando Jesus ouviu isso, ele disse: Esta enfermidade não é para morte, mas para glória de Deus, para que o Filho de Deus seja glorificado por ela.
5 Jesus loved Martha, her sister, and Lazarus.
5 Ora, Jesus amava a Marta, e a sua irmã, e a Lázaro.
6 Yet, when Jesus heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was for two more days.
6 Ouvindo, pois, que ele estava enfermo, ficou ainda dois dias no lugar onde ele estava.
7 Then, after the two days, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s go back to Judea.”
7 Depois disso, então, ele diz aos seus discípulos: Vamos outra vez para a Judeia.
8 The disciples said to him, “Rabbi, not long ago the Jews wanted to stone you to death. Do you really want to go back there?”
8 Seus discípulos lhe disseram: Mestre, recentemente os judeus procuravam apedrejar-te, e tu vais para lá novamente?
9 Jesus answered, “Aren’t there twelve hours of daylight? Those who walk during the day don’t stumble, because they see the light of this world.
9 Jesus respondeu: Não há doze horas no dia? Se algum homem andar de dia, ele não tropeça, porque ele vê a luz deste mundo.
10 However, those who walk at night stumble because they have no light in themselves.”
10 Mas se um homem andar de noite, ele tropeça, porque nele não há luz.
11 After Jesus said this, he told his disciples, “Our friend Lazarus is sleeping, and I’m going to Bethany to wake him.”
11 Essas coisas ele falou, e depois disso ele lhes disse: Nosso amigo Lázaro dorme, mas eu vou, para que eu possa despertá-lo do sono.
12 His disciples said to him, “Lord, if he’s sleeping, he’ll get well.”
12 Disseram-lhe, então, os seus discípulos: Senhor, se dorme, ele ficará bom.
13 Jesus meant that Lazarus was dead, but the disciples thought Jesus meant that Lazarus was only sleeping.
13 Todavia Jesus havia falado de sua morte, mas eles pensavam que falava do repouso do sono.
14 Then Jesus told them plainly, “Lazarus has died,
14 Então, Jesus disse-lhes claramente: Lázaro está morto.
15 but I’m glad that I wasn’t there so that you can grow in faith. Let’s go to Lazarus.”
15 E estou contente por causa de vós, de que eu não estivesse ali, para que creiais; no entanto, vamos até ele.
16 Thomas, who was called Didymus, said to the rest of the disciples, “Let’s go so that we, too, can die with Jesus.”
16 Então disse Tomé, que é chamado Dídimo, aos seus condiscípulos: Vamos nós também, para que possamos morrer com ele.
17 When Jesus arrived, he found that Lazarus had been in the tomb for four days.
17 Quando Jesus chegou, encontrou Lázaro já há quatro dias no sepulcro.
18 (Bethany was near Jerusalem, not quite two miles away.)
18 Ora, Betânia estava perto de Jerusalém, cerca de quinze estádios.
19 Many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them about their brother.
19 E muitos dos judeus tinham ido consolar a Marta e a Maria, acerca de seu irmão.
20 When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went to meet him. Mary stayed at home.
20 Ouvindo, então, Marta que Jesus vinha, foi ao seu encontro. Mas Maria ficou assentada em casa.
21 Martha told Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.
21 Então, disse Marta a Jesus: Senhor, se tu estivesses aqui, meu irmão não teria morrido.
22 But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask him.”
22 Mas eu sei, que agora mesmo, tudo quanto pedires a Deus, Deus te concederá.
23 Jesus told Martha, “Your brother will come back to life.”
23 Disse-lhe Jesus: Teu irmão há de ressuscitar.
24 Martha answered Jesus, “I know that he’ll come back to life on the last day, when everyone will come back to life.”
24 Disse-lhe Marta: Eu sei que há de ressuscitar na ressurreição do último dia.
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the one who brings people back to life, and I am life itself. Those who believe in me will live even if they die.
25 Disse-lhe Jesus: Eu sou a ressurreição, e a vida; quem crê em mim, ainda que esteja morto, ele viverá;
26 Everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe that?”
26 e todo aquele que vive e crê em mim nunca morrerá. Crês tu isto?
27 Martha said to him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one who was expected to come into the world.”
27 Disse-lhe ela: Sim, Senhor; eu creio que tu és o Cristo, o Filho de Deus, que havia de vir ao mundo.
28 After Martha had said this, she went back home and whispered to her sister Mary, “The teacher is here, and he is calling for you.”
28 E, tendo ela dito isso, seguiu o seu caminho, e chamou secretamente a Maria, sua irmã, dizendo: O Mestre está aqui e te chama.
29 When Mary heard this, she got up quickly and went to Jesus.
29 Assim que ela ouviu isso, levantou-se depressa, e foi até ele.
30 (Jesus had not yet come into the village but was still where Martha had met him.)
30 Ora, Jesus ainda não tinha chegado à aldeia, mas estava no lugar onde Marta o encontrara.
31 The Jews who were comforting Mary in the house saw her get up quickly and leave. So they followed her. They thought that she was going to the tomb to cry.
31 Os judeus, pois, que estavam com ela na casa e a consolavam, vendo que Maria se levantara e saíra apressadamente, seguiram-na, dizendo: Ela vai ao sepulcro para chorar ali.
32 When Mary arrived where Jesus was and saw him, she knelt at his feet and said, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.”
32 Tendo, pois, Maria chegado onde Jesus estava e vendo-o, ela lançou-se aos seus pés, dizendo-lhe: Senhor, se tu estivesses aqui, meu irmão não teria morrido.
33 When Jesus saw her crying, and the Jews who were crying with her, he was deeply moved and troubled.
33 Quando Jesus, pois, a viu chorar, e choravam também os judeus que vinham com ela, comoveu-se em espírito e conturbou-se,
34 So Jesus asked, “Where did you put Lazarus?”
34 e disse: Onde o pusestes? Eles disseram-lhe: Senhor, vem e vê.
35 Jesus cried.
35 Jesus chorou.
36 The Jews said, “See how much Jesus loved him.”
36 Disseram, então, os judeus: Vede como ele o amava!
37 But some of the Jews asked, “Couldn’t this man who gave a blind man sight keep Lazarus from dying?”
37 E alguns deles disseram: Não podia este homem, que abriu os olhos ao cego, fazer também com que este homem não morresse?
38 Deeply moved again, Jesus went to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone covering the entrance.
38 Jesus, pois, novamente comovido em si mesmo, foi ao sepulcro. Era uma caverna e tinha uma pedra posta sobre ela.
39 Jesus said, “Take the stone away.”
39 Disse Jesus: Tirai a pedra. Marta, irmã daquele que estava morto, disse-lhe: Senhor, a essa altura ele cheira mal, porque ele está morto há quatro dias.
40 Jesus said to her, “Didn’t I tell you that if you believe, you would see God’s glory?”
40 Disse-lhe Jesus: Eu não te disse que, se tu creres, verás a glória de Deus?
41 So the stone was moved away from the entrance of the tomb.
41 Então, eles tiraram a pedra do lugar onde jazia o morto. E Jesus, levantando seus olhos, disse: Pai, eu te agradeço, por me haveres ouvido.
42 I’ve known that you always hear me. However, I’ve said this so that the crowd standing around me will believe that you sent me.”
42 Eu sei que sempre me ouves, mas por causa da multidão que está ao redor eu disse isso, para que possam crer que tu me enviaste.
43 After Jesus had said this, he shouted as loudly as he could, “Lazarus, come out!”
43 E, tendo dito isso, clamou em alta voz: Lázaro, vem para fora.
44 The dead man came out. Strips of cloth were wound around his feet and hands, and his face was wrapped with a handkerchief. Jesus told them, “Free Lazarus, and let him go.”
44 E saiu o que estivera morto, amarrado nos pés e nas mãos com faixas; e a sua face envolta em um lenço. Disse-lhes Jesus: Desatai-o, e deixai-o ir.
45 Many Jews who had visited Mary and had seen what Jesus had done believed in him.
45 Então, muitos dentre os judeus que tinham vindo a Maria, e que haviam visto as coisas que Jesus fizera, creram nele.
46 But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done.
46 Mas alguns deles foram pelo seu caminho até os fariseus, e lhes contaram as coisas que Jesus havia feito.
47 So the chief priests and the Pharisees called a meeting of the council. They asked, “What are we doing? This man is performing a lot of miracles.
47 Então, reuniram-se os principais sacerdotes e os fariseus em conselho, dizendo: O que faremos? Pois este homem faz muitos milagres.
48 If we let him continue what he’s doing, everyone will believe in him. Then the Romans will take away our position and our nation.”
48 Se o deixarmos assim sozinho, todos os homens crerão nele; e virão os romanos e tirar-nos-ão o nosso lugar e a nação.
49 One of them, Caiaphas, who was chief priest that year, told them, “You people don’t know anything.
49 E um deles, chamado Caifás, que era sumo sacerdote naquele ano, lhes disse: Vós não entendeis nada,
50 You haven’t even considered this: It is better for one man to die for the people than for the whole nation to be destroyed.”
50 nem considerais que nos convém que um homem morra pelo povo e que não pereça toda a nação.
51 Caiaphas didn’t say this on his own. As chief priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation.
51 Ora, isso não disse ele por si mesmo; mas, sendo o sumo sacerdote naquele ano, profetizou que Jesus havia de morrer pela nação;
52 He prophesied that Jesus wouldn’t die merely for this nation, but that Jesus would die to bring God’s scattered children together and make them one.
52 e não somente por aquela nação, mas também para congregar num só corpo os filhos de Deus que estavam dispersos.
53 From that day on, the Jewish council planned to kill Jesus.
53 Desde aquele dia, pois, eles tomavam conselho para o matarem.
54 So Jesus no longer walked openly among the Jews. Instead, he left Bethany and went to the countryside near the desert, to a city called Ephraim, where he stayed with his disciples.
54 Jesus, portanto, já não andava publicamente entre os judeus, mas retirou-se dali para a terra junto do deserto, para uma cidade chamada Efraim, e ali continuava com os seus discípulos.
55 The Jewish Passover was near. Many people came from the countryside to Jerusalem to purify themselves before the Passover.
55 E estava próxima a Páscoa dos judeus; e dessa região subiram muitos a Jerusalém, antes da Páscoa, para se purificarem.
56 As they stood in the temple courtyard, they looked for Jesus and asked each other, “Do you think that he’ll avoid coming to the festival?”
56 Então eles buscavam por Jesus, e falavam entre si, estando no templo: Que vos parece? Não virá ele à festa?
57 (The chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that whoever knew where Jesus was should tell them so that they could arrest him.)
57 Ora, os principais sacerdotes e os fariseus tinham dado ordem para que, se algum homem soubesse onde ele estava, ele deveria mostrar, para que o prendessem.
