1 Josiah was 8 years old when he began to rule, and he was king for 31 years in Jerusalem. His mother was Jedidah, daughter of Adaiah from Bozkath.
1 Josias tinha oito anos quando começou a reinar; e reinou trinta e um anos em Jerusalém. E o nome da sua mãe era Jedida, a filha de Adaías de Bozcate.
2 Josiah did what the Lord considered right. He lived in the ways of his ancestor David and never stopped.
2 E ele fez aquilo que era reto à vista do SENHOR, e andou em todos os caminhos de Davi, o seu pai, e não se desviou para a direita, nem para a esquerda.
3 In Josiah’s eighteenth year as king of Judah, he sent the scribe Shaphan, son of Azaliah and grandson of Meshullam, to the Lord’s temple with these instructions:
3 E sucedeu, no décimo oitavo ano do rei Josias, que o rei enviou Safã, o filho de Azalias, filho de Mesulão, o escriba, à casa do SENHOR, dizendo:
4 “Go to the chief priest Hilkiah. Have him count the money that has been brought into the Lord’s temple, ⌞the money⌟ that the doorkeepers have collected from the people.
4 Sobe até Hilquias, o sumo sacerdote, para que ele possa completar a prata que é trazida à casa do SENHOR, a qual os guardadores da porta reuniram do povo;
5 Give ⌞some of⌟ it to the foremen who are in charge of the Lord’s temple. They should give it to the workmen who are making repairs on the Lord’s temple.
5 e que eles a entreguem na mão dos executores da obra, que têm a supervisão da casa do SENHOR; e que estes a deem aos executores da obra, a qual está na casa do SENHOR, para restaurarem as fendas da casa;
6 (These workers include the carpenters, builders, and masons.) Also, use ⌞the rest of⌟ the money to buy lumber and quarried stones to repair the temple.
6 aos carpinteiros, e construtores, e pedreiros, e para comprar madeira e pedra talhada para repararem a casa.
7 Since the workmen are honest, don’t require them to account for the money you give them.”
7 Todavia, não havia qualquer ajuste feito com eles acerca do dinheiro que era entregue na sua mão, porque eles agiam com fidelidade.
8 The chief priest Hilkiah told the scribe Shaphan, “I have found the Book of Moses’ Teachings in the Lord’s temple.” Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, who then read it.
8 E Hilquias, o sumo sacerdote, disse a Safã, o escriba: Encontrei o livro da lei na casa do SENHOR. E Hilquias deu o livro a Safã, e ele o leu.
9 The scribe Shaphan went to the king and reported, “We have taken the money donated in the temple and have given it to the workmen who are in charge of the Lord’s temple.”
9 E Safã, o escriba, voltou ao rei, e trouxe novamente ao rei a palavra, e disse: Os teus servos recolheram o dinheiro que foi achado na casa, e o entregaram na mão daqueles que executam a obra, que têm a supervisão da casa do SENHOR.
10 Then the scribe Shaphan told the king, “The priest Hilkiah has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it to the king.
10 E Safã, o escriba, apresentou ao rei, dizendo: Hilquias, o sacerdote, entregou-me um livro. E Safã o leu diante do rei.
11 When the king heard what the book of the Teachings said, he tore his clothes ⌞in distress⌟.
11 E sucedeu, quando o rei havia ouvido as palavras do livro da lei, que ele rasgou as suas vestes.
12 Then the king gave an order to the priest Hilkiah, to Ahikam (son of Shaphan), Achbor (son of Micaiah), the scribe Shaphan, and the royal official Asaiah. He said,
12 E o rei ordenou Hilquias, o sacerdote, e Aicão, o filho de Safã, e Acbor, o filho de Micaías, e Safã, o escriba, e Asaías, um servo do rei, dizendo:
13 “On behalf of the people, all of Judah, and me, ask the Lord about the words in this book that has been found. The Lord’s fierce anger is directed towards us because our ancestors did not obey the things in this book or do everything written ⌞in it⌟.”
13 Ide e consultai o SENHOR por mim, e pelo povo, e por todo o Judá, acerca das palavras deste livro que está achado; porque grande é a ira do SENHOR que está acesa contra nós, porque os nossos pais não atentaram às palavras deste livro, para fazerem segundo tudo aquilo que está escrito a nosso respeito.
14 So the priest Hilkiah, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went to talk to the prophet Huldah. She was the wife of Shallum, son of Tikvah and grandson of Harhas. Shallum was in charge of the ⌞royal⌟ wardrobe. Huldah was living in the Second Part of Jerusalem.
14 Assim, Hilquias, o sacerdote, e Aicão, e Acbor, e Safã, e Asaías, foram até Hulda, a profetisa, a esposa de Salum, o filho de Tocate, o filho de Harás, protetor do guarda-roupa, (ora, ela habitava em Jerusalém na sua segunda parte), e eles conversaram com ela.
15 She told them, “This is what the Lord God of Israel says: Tell the man who sent you to me,
15 E ela lhes disse: Assim diz o SENHOR Deus de Israel: Dizei ao homem que vos enviou a mim:
16 ‘This is what the Lord says: I’m going to bring disaster on this place and on the people living here according to everything written in the book that the king of Judah has read.
16 Assim diz o SENHOR: Eis que trarei o mal sobre este lugar, e sobre os seus habitantes todas as palavras do livro que o rei de Judá leu;
17 I will do this because they have abandoned me and sacrificed to other gods in order to make me furious. Therefore, my burning anger directed at this place will never be extinguished.’ ”
17 porque eles me abandonaram, e queimaram incenso a outros deuses, para que pudessem me provocar à ira com todas as obras das suas mãos; portanto, a minha ira será acesa contra este lugar, e não será extinta.
18 ⌞Huldah added,⌟ “But tell Judah’s king who sent you to me to ask the Lord a question, ‘This is what the Lord God of Israel says about the words you heard:
18 Porém, ao rei de Judá, o qual vos enviou para consultar o SENHOR, assim direis a ele: Assim diz o SENHOR Deus de Israel: No tocante às palavras que tens ouvido;
19 You had a change of heart and humbled yourself in front of the Lord when you heard my words against this place and those who live here. I had said that those who live here will be destroyed and cursed. You also tore your clothes ⌞in distress⌟ and cried in front of me. So I will listen ⌞to you⌟, declares the Lord.
19 como o teu coração foi terno, e tu te humilhaste diante do SENHOR, quando ouviste o que eu falei contra este lugar, e contra os seus habitantes, de que eles se tornariam uma desolação e uma maldição, e rasgaste as tuas vestes, e choraste diante de mim; eu também te ouvi, diz o SENHOR.
20 That is why I’m going to bring you to your ancestors. I’m going to bring you to your grave in peace, and your eyes will not see any of the disaster I’m going to bring on this place.’ ”
20 Eis que, por isso, eu te recolherei aos teus pais, e tu serás recolhido à tua sepultura em paz; e os teus olhos não verão todo o mal que eu trarei sobre este lugar. E eles trouxeram de volta ao rei a palavra.
