1 When Jacob was leaving that place, he looked up and saw Esau coming towards him with his 400 men. So Jacob quickly split up his wives with their children into 3 groups.
1 Levantou Jacó os olhos, e olhou, e eis que vinha Esaú, e quatrocentos homens com ele. Então repartiu os filhos entre Léia, e Raquel, e as duas servas.
2 He put Bilhah and Zilpah and their children in the first group, then Leah and her children in the next group and then Rachel and Joseph behind them.
2 Pôs as servas e seus filhos na frente, Léia e seus filhos atrás destes, e Raquel e José por últimos.
3 Jacob went out the front and walked towards his brother. On the way, he stopped and bowed down to the ground 7 times to show respect for his brother.
3 Mas ele mesmo passou adiante deles, e inclinou-se em terra sete vezes, até chegar perto de seu irmão.
4 But Esau ran towards Jacob and put his arms around him and kissed him. Both Esau and Jacob were so happy they cried together. Jacob met his brother Esau|src="CO00693B.TIF" size="col" copy="David Cook" ref="33:4"
4 Então Esaú correu-lhe ao encontro, abraçou-o, lançou-se-lhe ao pescoço, e o beijou; e eles choraram.
5 Esau looked at the women and children standing there and said, “Who are all these people with you?”
5 E levantando Esaú os olhos, viu as mulheres e os meninos, e perguntou: Quem são estes contigo? Respondeu-lhe Jacó: Os filhos que Deus bondosamente tem dado a teu servo.
6 Then Bilhah and Zilpah, the 2 women that worked for Leah and Rachel took all their children to Esau and they all bowed down to him.
6 Então chegaram-se as servas, elas e seus filhos, e inclinaram-se.
7 Next, Leah came with her children and they did the same thing. Last of all, Rachel and Joseph bowed down to the ground in front of Esau.
7 Chegaram-se também Léia e seus filhos, e inclinaram-se; depois chegaram-se José e Raquel e se inclinaram.
8 Then Esau said, “On the way here, I came across workmen with big groups of animals. What was that all about?”
8 Perguntou Esaú: Que queres dizer com todo este bando que tenho encontrado? Respondeu Jacó: Para achar graça aos olhos de meu senhor.
9 But Esau said, “I already have a lot of animals. You keep them.”
9 Mas Esaú disse: Tenho bastante, meu irmão; seja teu o que tens.
10 Jacob said, “No, if you are happy to see me, please take them. I am really happy to see your face with a smile on it. It is like seeing God himself.
10 Replicou-lhe Jacó: Não, mas se agora tenho achado graça aos teus olhos, aceita o presente da minha mão; porquanto tenho visto o teu rosto, como se tivesse visto o rosto de Deus, e tu te agradaste de mim.
11 Please take my present, God has been so good to me and I have more than I need.” Jacob kept on talking like that and so Esau was happy to take the animals.
11 Aceita, peço-te, o meu presente, que eu te trouxe; porque Deus tem sido bondoso para comigo, e porque tenho de tudo. E insistiu com ele, e ele o aceitou.
12 Esau said, “Let's get going. I will lead you to my country.”
12 Então Esaú disse: Ponhamo-nos a caminho e vamos; eu irei adiante de ti.
13 But Jacob answered, “My brother, you can see that some of my children are a little bit weak and my animals have little ones too. You and your men can move fast, but we can't. If we try to keep up with you, even for one day, all the animals would die.
13 Respondeu-lhe Jacó: Meu senhor sabe que estes filhos são tenros, e que tenho comigo ovelhas e vacas de leite; se forem obrigadas a caminhar demais por um só dia, todo o rebanho morrerá.
14 So, you go ahead of us and we will follow you slowly. We will walk as fast as the animals and children can go. We will see you in Seir.”
14 Passe o meu senhor adiante de seu servo; e eu seguirei, conduzindo-os calmamente, conforme o passo do gado que está diante de mim, e conforme o passo dos meninos, até que chegue a meu senhor em Seir.
15 Esau answered, “Ok, but I think I will leave some of my men to show you the way.”
15 Ao que disse Esaú: Permite ao menos que eu deixe contigo alguns da minha gente. Replicou Jacó: Para que? Basta que eu ache graça aos olhos de meu senhor.
16 And so, Esau and his men left Jacob and started to go back to their home in Seir.
16 Assim tornou Esaú aquele dia pelo seu caminho em direção a Seir.
17 But Jacob did not follow Esau down to Seir. He went to Su-coat and built a house to live in and made shelters for his animals as well. In their language Su-coat means shelters.
17 Jacó, porém, partiu para Sucote, e edificou para si uma casa, e fez barracas para o seu gado; por isso o lugar se chama Sucote.
18 And so, that is how Jacob and all his family left his uncle's country in Harran and travelled safely to a place called Su-coat. Then they moved to just outside the town of Shekem in Canaan. And it was there that he made his camp.
18 Depois chegou Jacó em paz à cidade de Siquém, que está na terra de Canaã, quando veio de Padã-Arã; e armou a sua tenda diante da cidade.
19 The leader for that country was named Hamor and one of his sons was named Sheckem. Jacob paid Hamor's sons 100 pieces of silver for the land he was camping on.
19 E comprou a parte do campo, em que estendera a sua tenda, dos filhos de Hamor, pai de Siquém, por cem peças de dinheiro.
20 Jacob made an altar out of stones with a flat top and called it, This altar belongs to God, the God of Israel.
20 Então levantou ali um altar, e chamou-lhe o El-Eloé-Israel.
