1 The elder to the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in truth—and not only I, but also all who know the truth—
1 O presbítero à senhora eleita e aos seus filhos, a quem eu amo na verdade e não somente eu, mas também todos os que conhecem a verdade,
2 because of the truth that abides in us and will be with us forever:
2 por causa da verdade que permanece em nós e conosco estará para sempre,
3 Grace, mercy, and peace will be withus from God the Father and fromthe Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
3 a graça, a misericórdia e a paz, da parte de Deus Pai e de Jesus Cristo, o Filho do Pai, serão conosco em verdade e amor.
4 I was overjoyed to find some of yoʋr children walking in the truth, just as we have been commanded by the Father.
4 Fiquei sobremodo alegre em ter encontrado dentre os teus filhos os que andam na verdade, de acordo com o mandamento que recebemos da parte do Pai.
5 And now I ask yoʋ, dear lady—not aswriting yoʋ a new commandment, but one we have had from the beginning—that we love one another.
5 E agora, senhora, peço-te, não como se escrevesse mandamento novo, senão o que tivemos desde o princípio: que nos amemos uns aos outros.
6 Now this is love, that we walk according to his commandments. This is the commandment, just as you have heard it from the beginning, that you should walk in it.
6 E o amor é este: que andemos segundo os seus mandamentos. Este mandamento, como ouvistes desde o princípio, é que andeis nesse amor.
7 For many deceivers havecome into the world, who do not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist.
7 Porque muitos enganadores têm saído pelo mundo fora, os quais não confessam Jesus Cristo vindo em carne; assim é o enganador e o anticristo.
8 Watch yourselves, so thatwe do not lose whatwe have worked for, but may receive a full reward.
8 Acautelai-vos, para não perderdes aquilo que temos realizado com esforço, mas para receberdes completo galardão.
9 Everyone whotransgresses and does not abide in the teaching of Christ does not have God. Whoever abides in the teachingof Christ has both theFather and the Son.
9 Todo aquele que ultrapassa a doutrina de Cristo e nela não permanece não tem Deus; o que permanece na doutrina, esse tem tanto o Pai como o Filho.
10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house, and do not greet him;
10 Se alguém vem ter convosco e não traz esta doutrina, não o recebais em casa, nem lhe deis as boas-vindas.
11 for whoever greets him takes part in his evil works.
11 Porquanto aquele que lhe dá boas-vindas faz-se cúmplice das suas obras más.
12 Although I have much to write to you, I would rather not use paper and ink. Instead, I hope to come to you and speak face to face, so thatour joy may be full.
12 Ainda tinha muitas coisas que vos escrever; não quis fazê-lo com papel e tinta, pois espero ir ter convosco, e conversaremos de viva voz, para que a nossa alegria seja completa.
13 The children of yoʋr chosen sister greet yoʋ.
13 Os filhos da tua irmã eleita te saúdam.
