Jeremias 8

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

At that time|strong="H6256", saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, they shall bring out|strong="H3318" the bones|strong="H6106" of the kings|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063", and the bones|strong="H6106" of his princes|strong="H8269", and the bones|strong="H6106" of the priests|strong="H3548", and the bones|strong="H6106" of the prophets|strong="H5030", and the bones|strong="H6106" of the inhabitants|strong="H3427" of Jerusalem|strong="H3389", out of their graves|strong="H6913":

And they shall spread|strong="H7849" them before the sun|strong="H8121", and the moon|strong="H3394", and all the host|strong="H6635" of heaven|strong="H8064", whom they have loved|strong="H0157", and whom they have served|strong="H5647", and after|strong="H0310" whom they have walked|strong="H1980", and whom they have sought|strong="H1875", and whom they have worshipped|strong="H7812": they shall not be gathered|strong="H0622", nor be buried|strong="H6912"; they shall be for dung|strong="H1828" upon the face|strong="H6440" of the earth|strong="H0127".

And death|strong="H4194" shall be chosen|strong="H0977" rather than life|strong="H2416" by all the residue|strong="H7611" of them that remain|strong="H7604" of this evil|strong="H7451" family|strong="H4940", which remain|strong="H7604" in all the places|strong="H4725" whither I have driven|strong="H5080" them, saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635".

Moreover thou shalt say|strong="H0559" unto them, Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; Shall they fall|strong="H5307", and not arise|strong="H6965"? shall he turn away|strong="H7725", and not return|strong="H7725"?

Why then is this people|strong="H5971" of Jerusalem|strong="H3389" slidden back|strong="H7725" by a perpetual|strong="H5329" backsliding|strong="H4878"? they hold|strong="H2388" fast deceit|strong="H8649", they refuse|strong="H3985" to return|strong="H7725".

I hearkened|strong="H7181" and heard|strong="H8085", but they spake not aright|strong="H1696": no man|strong="H0376" repented|strong="H5162" him of|strong="H5921" his wickedness|strong="H7451", saying|strong="H0559", What have I done|strong="H6213"? every one turned|strong="H7725" to his course|strong="H4794", as the horse|strong="H5483" rusheth|strong="H7857" into the battle|strong="H4421".

Yea, the stork|strong="H2624" in the heaven|strong="H8064" knoweth|strong="H3045" her appointed times|strong="H4150"; and the turtle|strong="H8449" and the crane|strong="H5483" and the swallow|strong="H5693" observe|strong="H8104" the time|strong="H6256" of their coming|strong="H0935"; but my people|strong="H5971" know|strong="H3045" not the judgment|strong="H4941" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

How do ye say|strong="H0559", We are wise|strong="H2450", and the law|strong="H8451" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* is with us? Lo, certainly|strong="H0403" in vain|strong="H8267" made|strong="H6213" he it; the pen|strong="H5842" of the scribes|strong="H5608" is in vain|strong="H8267".

The wise|strong="H2450" men are ashamed|strong="H3001", they are dismayed|strong="H2865" and taken|strong="H3920": lo, they have rejected|strong="H3988" the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; and what wisdom|strong="H2451" is in them?

Therefore will I give|strong="H5414" their wives|strong="H0802" unto others|strong="H0312", and their fields|strong="H7704" to them that shall inherit|strong="H3423" them: for every one from the least|strong="H6996" even unto the greatest|strong="H1419" is given|strong="H1214" to covetousness|strong="H1215", from the prophet|strong="H5030" even unto the priest|strong="H3548" every one dealeth|strong="H6213" falsely|strong="H8267".

For they have healed|strong="H7495" the hurt|strong="H7667" of the daughter|strong="H1323" of my people|strong="H5971" slightly|strong="H7043", saying|strong="H0559", Peace|strong="H7965", peace|strong="H7965"; when there is no peace|strong="H7965".

Were they ashamed|strong="H3001" when they had committed|strong="H6213" abomination|strong="H8441"? nay, they were not at all|strong="H0954" ashamed|strong="H0954", neither could|strong="H3045" they blush|strong="H3637": therefore shall they fall|strong="H5307" among them that fall|strong="H5307": in the time|strong="H6256" of their visitation|strong="H6486" they shall be cast down|strong="H3782", saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

I will surely|strong="H0622" consume|strong="H5486" them, saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*: there shall be no grapes|strong="H6025" on the vine|strong="H1612", nor figs|strong="H8384" on the fig tree|strong="H8384", and the leaf|strong="H5929" shall fade|strong="H5034"; and the things that I have given|strong="H5414" them shall pass away|strong="H5674" from them.

Why do we sit still|strong="H3427"? assemble|strong="H0622" yourselves, and let us enter|strong="H0935" into the defenced|strong="H4013" cities|strong="H5892", and let us be silent|strong="H1826" there: for the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* our God|strong="H0430" hath put us to silence|strong="H1826", and given us water|strong="H4325" of gall|strong="H7219" to drink|strong="H8248", because we have sinned|strong="H2398" against the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

We looked|strong="H6960" for peace|strong="H7965", but no good|strong="H2896" came; and for a time|strong="H6256" of health|strong="H4832", and behold trouble|strong="H1205"!

The snorting|strong="H5170" of his horses|strong="H5483" was heard|strong="H8085" from Dan|strong="H1835": the whole land|strong="H0776" trembled|strong="H7493" at the sound|strong="H6963" of the neighing|strong="H4684" of his strong ones|strong="H0047"; for they are come|strong="H0935", and have devoured|strong="H0398" the land|strong="H0776", and all|strong="H4393" that is in it; the city|strong="H5892", and those that dwell|strong="H3427" therein.

For, behold, I will send|strong="H7971" serpents|strong="H5175", cockatrices|strong="H6848", among you, which will not be charmed|strong="H3908", and they shall bite|strong="H5391" you, saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

When I would comfort|strong="H4010" myself against sorrow|strong="H3015", my heart|strong="H3820" is faint|strong="H1742" in me.

Behold the voice|strong="H6963" of the cry|strong="H7775" of the daughter|strong="H1323" of my people|strong="H5971" because of them that dwell in a far|strong="H4801" country|strong="H0776": Is not the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* in Zion|strong="H6726"? is not her king|strong="H4428" in her? Why have they provoked me to anger|strong="H3707" with their graven images|strong="H6456", and with strange|strong="H5236" vanities|strong="H1892"?

The harvest|strong="H7105" is past|strong="H5674", the summer|strong="H7019" is ended|strong="H3615", and we are not saved|strong="H3467".

For the hurt|strong="H7667" of the daughter|strong="H1323" of my people|strong="H5971" am I hurt|strong="H7665"; I am black|strong="H6937"; astonishment|strong="H8047" hath taken hold|strong="H2388" on me.

Is there no balm|strong="H6875" in Gilead|strong="H1568"; is there no physician|strong="H7495" there? why then|strong="H3588" is not the health|strong="H0724" of the daughter|strong="H1323" of my people|strong="H5971" recovered|strong="H5927"?
