Jeremias 9

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

Oh that|strong="H5414" my head|strong="H7218" were waters|strong="H4325", and mine eyes|strong="H5869" a fountain|strong="H4726" of tears|strong="H1832", that I might weep|strong="H1058" day|strong="H3119" and night|strong="H3915" for the slain|strong="H2491" of the daughter|strong="H1323" of my people|strong="H5971"!

Oh that|strong="H5414" I had in the wilderness|strong="H4057" a lodging place|strong="H4411" of wayfaring men|strong="H0732"; that I might leave|strong="H5800" my people|strong="H5971", and go|strong="H3212" from them! for they be all adulterers|strong="H5003", an assembly|strong="H6116" of treacherous men|strong="H0898".

And they bend|strong="H1869" their tongues|strong="H3956" like their bow|strong="H7198" for lies|strong="H8267": but they are not valiant|strong="H1396" for the truth|strong="H0530" upon the earth|strong="H0776"; for they proceed|strong="H3318" from evil|strong="H7451" to evil|strong="H7451", and they know|strong="H3045" not me, saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

Take ye heed|strong="H8104" every one|strong="H0376" of his neighbour|strong="H7453", and trust|strong="H0982" ye not in any brother|strong="H0251": for every brother|strong="H0251" will utterly|strong="H6117" supplant|strong="H6117", and every neighbour|strong="H7453" will walk|strong="H1980" with slanders|strong="H7400".

And they will deceive|strong="H2048" every one|strong="H0376" his neighbour|strong="H7453", and will not speak|strong="H1696" the truth|strong="H0571": they have taught|strong="H3925" their tongue|strong="H3956" to speak|strong="H1696" lies|strong="H8267", and weary|strong="H3811" themselves to commit iniquity|strong="H5753".

Thine habitation|strong="H3427" is in the midst|strong="H8432" of deceit|strong="H4820"; through deceit|strong="H4820" they refuse|strong="H3985" to know|strong="H3045" me, saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

Therefore thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635", Behold, I will melt|strong="H6884" them, and try|strong="H0974" them; for how shall I do|strong="H6213" for|strong="H6440" the daughter|strong="H1323" of my people|strong="H5971"?

Their tongue|strong="H3956" is as an arrow|strong="H2671" shot out|strong="H7819"; it speaketh|strong="H1696" deceit|strong="H4820": one speaketh|strong="H1696" peaceably|strong="H7965" to his neighbour|strong="H7453" with his mouth|strong="H6310", but in heart|strong="H7130" he layeth|strong="H7760" his wait|strong="H0696".

Shall I not visit|strong="H6485" them for these things? saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*: shall not my soul|strong="H5315" be avenged|strong="H5358" on such a nation|strong="H1471" as this?

For the mountains|strong="H2022" will I take up|strong="H5375" a weeping|strong="H1065" and wailing|strong="H5092", and for the habitations|strong="H4999" of the wilderness|strong="H4057" a lamentation|strong="H7015", because they are burned up|strong="H3341", so that none|strong="H0376" can pass|strong="H5674" through them; neither can men hear|strong="H8085" the voice|strong="H6963" of the cattle|strong="H4735"; both the fowl|strong="H5775" of the heavens|strong="H8064" and the beast|strong="H0929" are fled|strong="H5074"; they are gone|strong="H1980".

And I will make|strong="H5414" Jerusalem|strong="H3389" heaps|strong="H1530", and a den|strong="H4583" of dragons|strong="H8577"; and I will make|strong="H5414" the cities|strong="H5892" of Judah|strong="H3063" desolate|strong="H8077", without an inhabitant|strong="H3427".

Who is the wise|strong="H2450" man|strong="H0376", that may understand|strong="H0995" this? and who is he to whom the mouth|strong="H6310" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath spoken|strong="H1696", that he may declare|strong="H5046" it, for what the land|strong="H0776" perisheth|strong="H0006" and is burned up|strong="H3341" like a wilderness|strong="H4057", that none passeth through|strong="H5674"?

And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* saith|strong="H0559", Because they have forsaken|strong="H5800" my law|strong="H8451" which I set|strong="H5414" before|strong="H6440" them, and have not obeyed|strong="H8085" my voice|strong="H6963", neither walked|strong="H1980" therein;

But have walked|strong="H3212" after|strong="H0310" the imagination|strong="H8307" of their own heart|strong="H3820", and after|strong="H0310" Baalim|strong="H1168", which their fathers|strong="H0001" taught|strong="H3925" them:

Therefore thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635", the God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478"; Behold, I will feed|strong="H0398" them, even this people|strong="H5971", with wormwood|strong="H3939", and give them water|strong="H4325" of gall|strong="H7219" to drink|strong="H8248".

I will scatter|strong="H6327" them also among the heathen|strong="H1471", whom neither they nor their fathers|strong="H0001" have known|strong="H3045": and I will send|strong="H7971" a sword|strong="H2719" after|strong="H0310" them, till I have consumed|strong="H3615" them.

Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635", Consider|strong="H0995" ye, and call|strong="H7121" for the mourning women|strong="H6969", that they may come|strong="H0935"; and send|strong="H7971" for cunning|strong="H2450" women, that they may come|strong="H0935":

And let them make haste|strong="H4116", and take up|strong="H5375" a wailing|strong="H5092" for us, that our eyes|strong="H5869" may run down|strong="H3381" with tears|strong="H1832", and our eyelids|strong="H6079" gush out|strong="H5140" with waters|strong="H4325".

For a voice|strong="H6963" of wailing|strong="H5092" is heard|strong="H8085" out of Zion|strong="H6726", How are we spoiled|strong="H7703"! we are greatly|strong="H3966" confounded|strong="H0954", because we have forsaken|strong="H5800" the land|strong="H0776", because our dwellings|strong="H4908" have cast us out|strong="H7993".

Yet hear|strong="H8085" the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, O ye women|strong="H0802", and let your ear|strong="H0241" receive|strong="H3947" the word|strong="H1697" of his mouth|strong="H6310", and teach|strong="H3925" your daughters|strong="H1323" wailing|strong="H5092", and every one|strong="H0802" her neighbour|strong="H7468" lamentation|strong="H7015".

For death|strong="H4194" is come up|strong="H5927" into our windows|strong="H2474", and is entered|strong="H0935" into our palaces|strong="H0759", to cut off|strong="H3772" the children|strong="H5768" from without|strong="H2351", and the young men|strong="H0970" from the streets|strong="H7339".

Speak|strong="H1696", Thus saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, Even the carcases|strong="H5038" of men|strong="H0120" shall fall|strong="H5307" as dung|strong="H1828" upon the open|strong="H6440" field|strong="H7704", and as the handful|strong="H5995" after|strong="H0310" the harvestman|strong="H7114", and none shall gather|strong="H0622" them.

Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, Let not the wise|strong="H2450" man glory|strong="H1984" in his wisdom|strong="H2451", neither let the mighty|strong="H1368" man glory|strong="H1984" in his might|strong="H1369", let not the rich|strong="H6223" man glory|strong="H1984" in his riches|strong="H6239":

But let him that glorieth|strong="H1984" glory|strong="H1984" in this, that he understandeth|strong="H7919" and knoweth|strong="H3045" me, that I am the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* which exercise|strong="H6213" lovingkindness|strong="H2617", judgment|strong="H4941", and righteousness|strong="H6666", in the earth|strong="H0776": for in these things I delight|strong="H2654", saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

Behold, the days|strong="H3117" come|strong="H0935", saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, that I will punish|strong="H6485" all them which are circumcised|strong="H4135" with the uncircumcised|strong="H6190";

Egypt|strong="H4714", and Judah|strong="H3063", and Edom|strong="H0123", and the children|strong="H1121" of Ammon|strong="H5983", and Moab|strong="H4124", and all that are in the utmost|strong="H7112" corners|strong="H6285", that dwell|strong="H3427" in the wilderness|strong="H4057": for all these nations|strong="H1471" are uncircumcised|strong="H6189", and all the house|strong="H1004" of Israel|strong="H3478" are uncircumcised|strong="H6189" in the heart|strong="H3820".
