Jeremias 2

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

Moreover the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* came to me, saying|strong="H0559",

Go|strong="H1980" and cry|strong="H7121" in the ears|strong="H0241" of Jerusalem|strong="H3389", saying|strong="H0559", Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; I remember|strong="H2142" thee, the kindness|strong="H2617" of thy youth|strong="H5271", the love|strong="H0160" of thine espousals|strong="H3623", when thou wentest|strong="H3212" after|strong="H0310" me in the wilderness|strong="H4057", in a land|strong="H0776" that was not sown|strong="H2232".

Israel|strong="H3478" was holiness|strong="H6944" unto the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and the firstfruits|strong="H7225" of his increase|strong="H8393": all that devour|strong="H0398" him shall offend|strong="H0816"; evil|strong="H7451" shall come|strong="H0935" upon them, saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

Hear|strong="H8085" ye the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, O house|strong="H1004" of Jacob|strong="H3290", and all the families|strong="H4940" of the house|strong="H1004" of Israel|strong="H3478":

Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, What iniquity|strong="H5766" have your fathers|strong="H0001" found|strong="H4672" in me, that they are gone far|strong="H7368" from me, and have walked|strong="H3212" after|strong="H0310" vanity|strong="H1892", and are become vain|strong="H1891"?

Neither said|strong="H0559" they, Where is the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* that brought us up|strong="H5927" out of the land|strong="H0776" of Egypt|strong="H4714", that led|strong="H3212" us through the wilderness|strong="H4057", through a land|strong="H0776" of deserts|strong="H6160" and of pits|strong="H7745", through a land|strong="H0776" of drought|strong="H6723", and of the shadow of death|strong="H6757", through a land|strong="H0776" that no man|strong="H0376" passed through|strong="H5674", and where no man|strong="H0120" dwelt|strong="H3427"?

And I brought|strong="H0935" you into a plentiful|strong="H3759" country|strong="H0776", to eat|strong="H0398" the fruit|strong="H6529" thereof and the goodness|strong="H2898" thereof; but when ye entered|strong="H0935", ye defiled|strong="H2930" my land|strong="H0776", and made|strong="H7760" mine heritage|strong="H5159" an abomination|strong="H8441".

The priests|strong="H3548" said|strong="H0559" not, Where is the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*? and they that handle|strong="H8610" the law|strong="H8451" knew|strong="H3045" me not: the pastors|strong="H7462" also transgressed|strong="H6586" against me, and the prophets|strong="H5030" prophesied|strong="H5012" by Baal|strong="H1168", and walked|strong="H1980" after|strong="H0310" things that do not profit|strong="H3276".

Wherefore I will yet plead|strong="H7378" with you, saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and with your children’s|strong="H1121" children|strong="H1121" will I plead|strong="H7378".

For pass over|strong="H5674" the isles|strong="H0339" of Chittim|strong="H3794", and see|strong="H7200"; and send|strong="H7971" unto Kedar|strong="H6938", and consider|strong="H0995" diligently|strong="H3966", and see|strong="H7200" if there be such a thing.

Hath a nation|strong="H1471" changed|strong="H3235" their gods|strong="H0430", which are yet no gods|strong="H0430"? but my people|strong="H5971" have changed|strong="H4171" their glory|strong="H3519" for that which doth not profit|strong="H3276".

Be astonished|strong="H8074", O ye heavens|strong="H8064", at this, and be horribly afraid|strong="H8175", be ye very|strong="H3966" desolate|strong="H2717", saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

For my people|strong="H5971" have committed|strong="H6213" two|strong="H8147" evils|strong="H7451"; they have forsaken|strong="H5800" me the fountain|strong="H4726" of living|strong="H2416" waters|strong="H4325", and hewed them out|strong="H2672" cisterns|strong="H0877", broken|strong="H7665" cisterns|strong="H0877", that can hold|strong="H3557" no water|strong="H4325".

Is Israel|strong="H3478" a servant|strong="H5650"? is he a homeborn|strong="H1004" slave? why|strong="H4069" is he spoiled|strong="H0957"?

The young lions|strong="H3715" roared|strong="H7580" upon him, and yelled|strong="H5414", and they made|strong="H7896" his land|strong="H0776" waste|strong="H8047": his cities|strong="H5892" are burned|strong="H3341" without inhabitant|strong="H3427".

Also the children|strong="H1121" of Noph|strong="H5297" and Tahapanes|strong="H8471" have broken|strong="H7462" the crown of thy head|strong="H6936".

Hast thou not procured|strong="H6213" this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken|strong="H5800" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* thy God|strong="H0430", when|strong="H6256" he led|strong="H3212" thee by the way|strong="H1870"?

And now what hast thou to do in the way|strong="H1870" of Egypt|strong="H4714", to drink|strong="H8354" the waters|strong="H4325" of Sihor|strong="H7883"? or what hast thou to do in the way|strong="H1870" of Assyria|strong="H0804", to drink|strong="H8354" the waters|strong="H4325" of the river|strong="H5104"?

Thine own wickedness|strong="H7451" shall correct|strong="H3256" thee, and thy backslidings|strong="H4878" shall reprove|strong="H3198" thee: know|strong="H3045" therefore and see|strong="H7200" that it is an evil|strong="H7451" thing and bitter|strong="H4751", that thou hast forsaken|strong="H5800" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* thy God|strong="H0430", and that my fear|strong="H6345" is not in thee, saith|strong="H5002" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635".

For of old time|strong="H5769" I have broken|strong="H7665" thy yoke|strong="H5923", and burst|strong="H5423" thy bands|strong="H4147"; and thou saidst|strong="H0559", I will not transgress|strong="H5674"; when upon every high|strong="H1364" hill|strong="H1389" and under every green|strong="H7488" tree|strong="H6086" thou wanderest|strong="H6808", playing the harlot|strong="H2181".

Yet I had planted|strong="H5193" thee a noble vine|strong="H8321", wholly a right|strong="H0571" seed|strong="H2233": how then art thou turned|strong="H2015" into the degenerate plant|strong="H5494" of a strange|strong="H5237" vine|strong="H1612" unto me?

For though thou wash|strong="H3526" thee with nitre|strong="H5427", and take thee much|strong="H7235" soap|strong="H1287", yet thine iniquity|strong="H5771" is marked|strong="H3799" before|strong="H6440" me, saith|strong="H5002" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w*.

How canst thou say|strong="H0559", I am not polluted|strong="H2930", I have not gone|strong="H1980" after|strong="H0310" Baalim|strong="H1168"? see|strong="H7200" thy way|strong="H1870" in the valley|strong="H1516", know|strong="H3045" what thou hast done|strong="H6213": thou art a swift|strong="H7031" dromedary|strong="H1072" traversing|strong="H8308" her ways|strong="H1870";

A wild ass|strong="H6501" used|strong="H3928" to the wilderness|strong="H4057", that snuffeth up|strong="H7602" the wind|strong="H7307" at her pleasure|strong="H0185"; in her occasion|strong="H8385" who can turn her away|strong="H7725"? all they that seek|strong="H1245" her will not weary|strong="H3286" themselves; in her month|strong="H2320" they shall find|strong="H4672" her.

Withhold|strong="H4513" thy foot|strong="H7272" from being unshod|strong="H3182", and thy throat|strong="H1627" from thirst|strong="H6773": but thou saidst|strong="H0559", There is no hope|strong="H2976": no; for I have loved|strong="H0157" strangers|strong="H2114", and after|strong="H0310" them will I go|strong="H3212".

As the thief|strong="H1590" is ashamed|strong="H1322" when he is found|strong="H4672", so is the house|strong="H1004" of Israel|strong="H3478" ashamed|strong="H3001"; they, their kings|strong="H4428", their princes|strong="H8269", and their priests|strong="H3548", and their prophets|strong="H5030",

Saying|strong="H0559" to a stock|strong="H6086", Thou art my father|strong="H0001"; and to a stone|strong="H0068", Thou hast brought me forth|strong="H3205": for they have turned|strong="H6437" their back|strong="H6203" unto me, and not their face|strong="H6440": but in the time|strong="H6256" of their trouble|strong="H7451" they will say|strong="H0559", Arise|strong="H6965", and save|strong="H3467" us.

But where are thy gods|strong="H0430" that thou hast made|strong="H6213" thee? let them arise|strong="H6965", if they can save|strong="H3467" thee in the time|strong="H6256" of thy trouble|strong="H7451": for according to the number|strong="H4557" of thy cities|strong="H5892" are thy gods|strong="H0430", O Judah|strong="H3063".

Wherefore will ye plead|strong="H7378" with me? ye all have transgressed|strong="H6586" against me, saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

In vain|strong="H7723" have I smitten|strong="H5221" your children|strong="H1121"; they received|strong="H3947" no correction|strong="H4148": your own sword|strong="H2719" hath devoured|strong="H0398" your prophets|strong="H5030", like a destroying|strong="H7843" lion|strong="H0738".

O generation|strong="H1755", see|strong="H7200" ye the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*. Have I been a wilderness|strong="H4057" unto Israel|strong="H3478"? a land|strong="H0776" of darkness|strong="H3991"? wherefore say|strong="H0559" my people|strong="H5971", We are lords|strong="H7300"; we will come|strong="H0935" no more unto thee?

Can a maid|strong="H1330" forget|strong="H7911" her ornaments|strong="H5716", or a bride|strong="H3618" her attire|strong="H7196"? yet my people|strong="H5971" have forgotten|strong="H7911" me days|strong="H3117" without number|strong="H4557".

Why trimmest|strong="H3190" thou thy way|strong="H1870" to seek|strong="H1245" love|strong="H0160"? therefore hast thou also taught|strong="H3925" the wicked ones|strong="H7451" thy ways|strong="H1870".

Also in thy skirts|strong="H3671" is found|strong="H4672" the blood|strong="H1818" of the souls|strong="H5315" of the poor|strong="H0034" innocents|strong="H5355": I have not found|strong="H4672" it by secret search|strong="H4290", but upon all these.

Yet thou sayest|strong="H0559", Because I am innocent|strong="H5352", surely his anger|strong="H0639" shall turn|strong="H7725" from me. Behold, I will plead|strong="H8199" with thee, because thou sayest|strong="H0559", I have not sinned|strong="H2398".

Why gaddest thou about|strong="H0235" so much|strong="H3966" to change|strong="H8138" thy way|strong="H1870"? thou also shalt be ashamed|strong="H0954" of Egypt|strong="H4714", as thou wast ashamed|strong="H0954" of Assyria|strong="H0804".

Yea, thou shalt go forth|strong="H3318" from him, and thine hands|strong="H3027" upon thine head|strong="H7218": for the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath rejected|strong="H3988" thy confidences|strong="H4009", and thou shalt not prosper|strong="H6743" in them.
