Then answered|strong="H6030" Eliphaz|strong="H0464" the Temanite|strong="H8489", and said|strong="H0559",
Should a wise man|strong="H2450" utter|strong="H6030" vain|strong="H7307" knowledge|strong="H1847", and fill|strong="H4390" his belly|strong="H0990" with the east wind|strong="H6921"?
Should he reason|strong="H3198" with unprofitable|strong="H5532" talk|strong="H1697"? or with speeches|strong="H4405" wherewith he can do no good|strong="H3276"?
Yea, thou castest off|strong="H6565" fear|strong="H3374", and restrainest|strong="H1639" prayer|strong="H7881" before|strong="H6440" God|strong="H0410".
For thy mouth|strong="H6310" uttereth|strong="H0502" thine iniquity|strong="H5771", and thou choosest|strong="H0977" the tongue|strong="H3956" of the crafty|strong="H6175".
Thine own mouth|strong="H6310" condemneth|strong="H7561" thee, and not I: yea, thine own lips|strong="H8193" testify|strong="H6030" against thee.
Art thou the first|strong="H7223" man|strong="H0120" that was born|strong="H3205"? or wast thou made|strong="H2342" before|strong="H6440" the hills|strong="H1389"?
Hast thou heard|strong="H8085" the secret|strong="H5475" of God|strong="H0433"? and dost thou restrain|strong="H1639" wisdom|strong="H2451" to thyself?
What knowest|strong="H3045" thou, that we know|strong="H3045" not? what understandest|strong="H0995" thou, which is not in us?
With us are both the grayheaded|strong="H7867" and very aged|strong="H3453" men, much|strong="H3524" elder|strong="H3117" than thy father|strong="H0001".
Are the consolations|strong="H8575" of God|strong="H0410" small|strong="H4592" with thee? is there any secret|strong="H0328" thing|strong="H1697" with thee?
Why doth thine heart|strong="H3820" carry thee away|strong="H3947"? and what do thy eyes|strong="H5869" wink at|strong="H7335",
That thou turnest|strong="H7725" thy spirit|strong="H7307" against God|strong="H0410", and lettest such words|strong="H4405" go out|strong="H3318" of thy mouth|strong="H6310"?
What is man|strong="H0582", that he should be clean|strong="H2135"? and he which is born|strong="H3205" of a woman|strong="H0802", that he should be righteous|strong="H6663"?
Behold, he putteth no trust|strong="H0539" in his saints|strong="H6918"; yea, the heavens|strong="H8064" are not clean|strong="H2141" in his sight|strong="H5869".
How much more abominable|strong="H8581" and filthy|strong="H0444" is man|strong="H0376", which drinketh|strong="H8354" iniquity|strong="H5766" like water|strong="H4325"?
I will shew|strong="H2331" thee, hear|strong="H8085" me; and that which I have seen|strong="H2372" I will declare|strong="H5608";
Which wise|strong="H2450" men have told|strong="H5046" from their fathers|strong="H0001", and have not hid|strong="H3582" it:
Unto whom alone the earth|strong="H0776" was given|strong="H5414", and no stranger|strong="H2114" passed|strong="H5674" among|strong="H8432" them.
The wicked|strong="H7563" man travaileth|strong="H2342" with pain all his days|strong="H3117", and the number|strong="H4557" of years|strong="H8141" is hidden|strong="H6845" to the oppressor|strong="H6184".
A dreadful|strong="H6343" sound|strong="H6963" is in his ears|strong="H0241": in prosperity|strong="H7965" the destroyer|strong="H7703" shall come|strong="H0935" upon him.
He believeth|strong="H0539" not that he shall return|strong="H7725" out of darkness|strong="H2822", and he is waited|strong="H6822" for of the sword|strong="H2719".
He wandereth abroad|strong="H5074" for bread|strong="H3899", saying, Where is it? he knoweth|strong="H3045" that the day|strong="H3117" of darkness|strong="H2822" is ready|strong="H3559" at his hand|strong="H3027".
Trouble|strong="H6862" and anguish|strong="H4691" shall make him afraid|strong="H1204"; they shall prevail|strong="H8630" against him, as a king|strong="H4428" ready|strong="H6264" to the battle|strong="H3593".
For he stretcheth out|strong="H5186" his hand|strong="H3027" against God|strong="H0410", and strengtheneth|strong="H1396" himself against the Almighty|strong="H7706".
He runneth|strong="H7323" upon him, even on his neck|strong="H6677", upon the thick|strong="H5672" bosses|strong="H1354" of his bucklers|strong="H4043":
Because he covereth|strong="H3680" his face|strong="H6440" with his fatness|strong="H2459", and maketh|strong="H6213" collops of fat|strong="H6371" on his flanks|strong="H3689".
And he dwelleth|strong="H7931" in desolate|strong="H3582" cities|strong="H5892", and in houses|strong="H1004" which no man inhabiteth|strong="H3427", which are ready|strong="H6257" to become heaps|strong="H1530".
He shall not be rich|strong="H6238", neither shall his substance|strong="H2428" continue|strong="H6965", neither shall he prolong|strong="H5186" the perfection|strong="H4512" thereof upon the earth|strong="H0776".
He shall not depart|strong="H5493" out of darkness|strong="H2822"; the flame|strong="H7957" shall dry up|strong="H3001" his branches|strong="H3127", and by the breath|strong="H7307" of his mouth|strong="H6310" shall he go away|strong="H5493".
Let not him that is deceived|strong="H8582" trust|strong="H0539" in vanity|strong="H7723": for vanity|strong="H7723" shall be his recompence|strong="H8545".
It shall be accomplished|strong="H4390" before|strong="H3808" his time|strong="H3117", and his branch|strong="H3712" shall not be green|strong="H7488".
He shall shake off|strong="H2554" his unripe grape|strong="H1154" as the vine|strong="H1612", and shall cast off|strong="H7993" his flower|strong="H5328" as the olive|strong="H2132".
For the congregation|strong="H5712" of hypocrites|strong="H2611" shall be desolate|strong="H1565", and fire|strong="H0784" shall consume|strong="H0398" the tabernacles|strong="H0168" of bribery|strong="H7810".
They conceive|strong="H2029" mischief|strong="H5999", and bring forth|strong="H3205" vanity|strong="H0205", and their belly|strong="H0990" prepareth|strong="H3559" deceit|strong="H4820".
