Gênesis 42

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

Now when Jacob|strong="H3290" saw|strong="H7200" that there was|strong="H3426" corn|strong="H7668" in Egypt|strong="H4714", Jacob|strong="H3290" said|strong="H0559" unto his sons|strong="H1121", Why do ye look|strong="H7200" one upon another?

And he said|strong="H0559", Behold, I have heard|strong="H8085" that there is|strong="H3426" corn|strong="H7668" in Egypt|strong="H4714": get you down|strong="H3381" thither, and buy|strong="H7666" for us from thence; that we may live|strong="H2421", and not die|strong="H4191".

And Joseph’s|strong="H3130" ten|strong="H6235" brethren|strong="H0251" went down|strong="H3381" to buy|strong="H7666" corn|strong="H1250" in Egypt|strong="H4714".

But Benjamin|strong="H1144", Joseph’s|strong="H3130" brother|strong="H0251", Jacob|strong="H3290" sent|strong="H7971" not with his brethren|strong="H0251"; for he said|strong="H0559", Lest peradventure|strong="H6435" mischief|strong="H0611" befall him|strong="H7122".

And the sons|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" came|strong="H0935" to buy|strong="H7666" corn among|strong="H8432" those that came|strong="H0935": for the famine|strong="H7458" was in the land|strong="H0776" of Canaan|strong="H3667".

And Joseph|strong="H3130" was the governor|strong="H7989" over the land|strong="H0776", and he it was that sold|strong="H7666" to all the people|strong="H5971" of the land|strong="H0776": and Joseph’s|strong="H3130" brethren|strong="H0251" came|strong="H0935", and bowed down|strong="H7812" themselves before him with their faces|strong="H0639" to the earth|strong="H0776".

And Joseph|strong="H3130" saw|strong="H7200" his brethren|strong="H0251", and he knew|strong="H5234" them, but made himself strange|strong="H5234" unto them, and spake|strong="H1696" roughly|strong="H7186" unto them; and he said|strong="H0559" unto them, Whence|strong="H0370" come|strong="H0935" ye? And they said|strong="H0559", From the land|strong="H0776" of Canaan|strong="H3667" to buy|strong="H7666" food|strong="H0400".

And Joseph|strong="H3130" knew|strong="H5234" his brethren|strong="H0251", but they knew|strong="H5234" not him.

And Joseph|strong="H3130" remembered|strong="H2142" the dreams|strong="H2472" which he dreamed|strong="H2492" of them, and said|strong="H0559" unto them, Ye are spies|strong="H7270"; to see|strong="H7200" the nakedness|strong="H6172" of the land|strong="H0776" ye are come|strong="H0935".

And they said|strong="H0559" unto him, Nay, my lord|strong="H0113", but to buy|strong="H7666" food|strong="H0400" are thy servants|strong="H5650" come|strong="H0935".

We|strong="H5168" are all one|strong="H0259" man’s|strong="H0376" sons|strong="H1121"; we are true|strong="H3651" men, thy servants|strong="H5650" are no spies|strong="H7270".

And he said|strong="H0559" unto them, Nay, but to see|strong="H7200" the nakedness|strong="H6172" of the land|strong="H0776" ye are come|strong="H0935".

And they said|strong="H0559", Thy servants|strong="H5650" are twelve|strong="H8147" brethren|strong="H0251", the sons|strong="H1121" of one|strong="H0259" man|strong="H0376" in the land|strong="H0776" of Canaan|strong="H3667"; and, behold, the youngest|strong="H6996" is this day|strong="H3117" with our father|strong="H0001", and one|strong="H0259" is not.

And Joseph|strong="H3130" said|strong="H0559" unto them, That is it that I spake|strong="H1696" unto you, saying|strong="H0559", Ye are spies|strong="H7270":

Hereby|strong="H2063" ye shall be proved|strong="H0974": By the life|strong="H2416" of Pharaoh|strong="H6547" ye shall not go forth|strong="H3318" hence, except your youngest|strong="H6996" brother|strong="H0251" come|strong="H0935" hither.

Send|strong="H7971" one|strong="H0259" of you, and let him fetch|strong="H3947" your brother|strong="H0251", and ye shall be kept in prison|strong="H0631", that your words|strong="H1697" may be proved|strong="H0974", whether there be any truth|strong="H0571" in|strong="H0854" you: or else|strong="H3808" by the life|strong="H2416" of Pharaoh|strong="H6547" surely ye are spies|strong="H7270".

And he put them all together|strong="H0622" into ward|strong="H4929" three|strong="H7969" days|strong="H3117".

And Joseph|strong="H3130" said|strong="H0559" unto them the third|strong="H7992" day|strong="H3117", This do|strong="H6213", and live|strong="H2421"; for I fear|strong="H3373" God|strong="H0430":

If ye be true|strong="H3651" men, let one|strong="H0259" of your brethren|strong="H0251" be bound|strong="H0631" in the house|strong="H1004" of your prison|strong="H4929": go|strong="H3212" ye, carry|strong="H0935" corn|strong="H7668" for the famine|strong="H7459" of your houses|strong="H1004":

But bring|strong="H0935" your youngest|strong="H6996" brother|strong="H0251" unto me; so shall your words|strong="H1697" be verified|strong="H0539", and ye shall not die|strong="H4191". And they did|strong="H6213" so.

And they said|strong="H0559" one|strong="H0376" to another|strong="H0251", We are verily|strong="H0061" guilty|strong="H0818" concerning our brother|strong="H0251", in that|strong="H0834" we saw|strong="H7200" the anguish|strong="H6869" of his soul|strong="H5315", when he besought|strong="H2603" us, and we would not hear|strong="H8085"; therefore is this distress|strong="H6869" come|strong="H0935" upon us.

And Reuben|strong="H7205" answered|strong="H6030" them, saying|strong="H0559", Spake I|strong="H0559" not unto you, saying|strong="H0559", Do not sin|strong="H2398" against the child|strong="H3206"; and ye would not hear|strong="H8085"? therefore, behold, also his blood|strong="H1818" is required|strong="H1875".

And they knew|strong="H3045" not that Joseph|strong="H3130" understood|strong="H8085" them; for he spake unto them by an interpreter|strong="H3887".

And he turned himself about|strong="H5437" from them, and wept|strong="H1058"; and returned to them again|strong="H7725", and communed|strong="H1696" with them, and took|strong="H3947" from them Simeon|strong="H8095", and bound|strong="H0631" him before their eyes|strong="H5869".

Then Joseph|strong="H3130" commanded|strong="H6680" to fill|strong="H4390" their sacks|strong="H3627" with corn|strong="H1250", and to restore|strong="H7725" every man’s|strong="H0376" money|strong="H3701" into his sack|strong="H8242", and to give|strong="H5414" them provision|strong="H6720" for the way|strong="H1870": and thus|strong="H3651" did he|strong="H6213" unto them.

And they laded|strong="H5375" their asses|strong="H2543" with the corn|strong="H7668", and departed|strong="H3212" thence.

And as one|strong="H0259" of them opened|strong="H6605" his sack|strong="H8242" to give|strong="H5414" his ass|strong="H2543" provender|strong="H4554" in the inn|strong="H4411", he espied|strong="H7200" his money|strong="H3701"; for, behold, it was in his sack’s|strong="H0572" mouth|strong="H6310".

And he said|strong="H0559" unto his brethren|strong="H0251", My money|strong="H3701" is restored|strong="H7725"; and, lo|strong="H2009", it is even in my sack|strong="H0572": and their heart|strong="H3820" failed|strong="H3318" them, and they were afraid|strong="H2729", saying|strong="H0559" one|strong="H0376" to another|strong="H0251", What is this that God|strong="H0430" hath done|strong="H6213" unto us?

And they came|strong="H0935" unto Jacob|strong="H3290" their father|strong="H0001" unto the land|strong="H0776" of Canaan|strong="H3667", and told|strong="H5046" him all that befell|strong="H7136" unto them; saying|strong="H0559",

The man|strong="H0376", who is the lord|strong="H0113" of the land|strong="H0776", spake|strong="H1696" roughly|strong="H7186" to us, and took|strong="H5414" us for spies|strong="H7270" of the country|strong="H0776".

And we said|strong="H0559" unto him, We are true|strong="H3651" men; we are no spies|strong="H7270":

We be twelve|strong="H6240" brethren|strong="H0251", sons|strong="H1121" of our father|strong="H0001"; one|strong="H0259" is not, and the youngest|strong="H6996" is this day|strong="H3117" with our father|strong="H0001" in the land|strong="H0776" of Canaan|strong="H3667".

And the man|strong="H0376", the lord|strong="H0113" of the country|strong="H0776", said|strong="H0559" unto us, Hereby shall I know|strong="H3045" that ye are true|strong="H3651" men; leave|strong="H3240" one|strong="H0259" of your brethren|strong="H0251" here with me, and take|strong="H3947" food for the famine|strong="H7459" of your households|strong="H1004", and be gone|strong="H3212":

And bring|strong="H0935" your youngest|strong="H6996" brother|strong="H0251" unto me: then shall I know|strong="H3045" that ye are no spies|strong="H7270", but that ye are true|strong="H3651" men: so will I deliver|strong="H5414" you your brother|strong="H0251", and ye shall traffick|strong="H5503" in the land|strong="H0776".

And it came to pass as they emptied|strong="H7324" their sacks|strong="H8242", that, behold, every man’s|strong="H0376" bundle|strong="H6872" of money|strong="H3701" was in his sack|strong="H8242": and when both they and their father|strong="H0001" saw|strong="H7200" the bundles|strong="H6872" of money|strong="H3701", they were afraid|strong="H3372".

And Jacob|strong="H3290" their father|strong="H0001" said|strong="H0559" unto them, Me have ye bereaved|strong="H7921" of my children: Joseph|strong="H3130" is not, and Simeon|strong="H8095" is not, and ye will take|strong="H3947" Benjamin|strong="H1144" away: all these things are against me.

And Reuben|strong="H7205" spake|strong="H0559" unto his father|strong="H0001", saying|strong="H0559", Slay|strong="H4191" my two|strong="H8147" sons|strong="H1121", if I bring|strong="H0935" him not to thee: deliver|strong="H5414" him into my hand|strong="H3027", and I will bring him to thee again|strong="H7725".

And he said|strong="H0559", My son|strong="H1121" shall not go down|strong="H3381" with you; for his brother|strong="H0251" is dead|strong="H4191", and he is left|strong="H7604" alone: if mischief|strong="H0611" befall|strong="H7122" him by the way|strong="H1870" in the which ye go|strong="H3212", then shall ye bring down|strong="H3381" my gray hairs|strong="H7872" with sorrow|strong="H3015" to the grave|strong="H7585".
