2 Reis 1

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

1 Then Moab|strong="H4124" rebelled|strong="H6586" against Israel|strong="H3478" after|strong="H0310" the death|strong="H4194" of Ahab|strong="H0256".

2 And Ahaziah|strong="H0274" fell down|strong="H5307" through a lattice|strong="H7639" in his upper chamber|strong="H5944" that was in Samaria|strong="H8111", and was sick|strong="H2470": and he sent|strong="H7971" messengers|strong="H4397", and said|strong="H0559" unto them, Go|strong="H3212", enquire|strong="H1875" of Baal-zebub|strong="H1176" the god|strong="H0430" of Ekron|strong="H6138" whether I shall recover|strong="H2421" of this disease|strong="H2483".

3 But the angel|strong="H4397" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H1696" to Elijah|strong="H0452" the Tishbite|strong="H8664", Arise|strong="H6965", go up|strong="H5927" to meet|strong="H7125" the messengers|strong="H4397" of the king|strong="H4428" of Samaria|strong="H8111", and say|strong="H1696" unto them, Is it not because there is not a God|strong="H0430" in Israel|strong="H3478", that ye go|strong="H1980" to enquire|strong="H1875" of Baal-zebub|strong="H1176" the god|strong="H0430" of Ekron|strong="H6138"?

4 Now therefore thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, Thou shalt not come down|strong="H3381" from that bed|strong="H4296" on which thou art gone up|strong="H5927", but shalt surely|strong="H4191" die|strong="H4191". And Elijah|strong="H0452" departed|strong="H3212".

5 And when the messengers|strong="H4397" turned back|strong="H7725" unto him, he said|strong="H0559" unto them, Why are ye now|strong="H2088" turned back|strong="H7725"?

6 And they said|strong="H0559" unto him, There came|strong="H5927" a man|strong="H0376" up|strong="H5927" to meet|strong="H7125" us, and said|strong="H0559" unto us, Go|strong="H3212", turn again|strong="H7725" unto the king|strong="H4428" that sent|strong="H7971" you, and say|strong="H1696" unto him, Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, Is it not because there is not a God|strong="H0430" in Israel|strong="H3478", that thou sendest|strong="H7971" to enquire|strong="H1875" of Baal-zebub|strong="H1176" the god|strong="H0430" of Ekron|strong="H6138"? therefore thou shalt not come down|strong="H3381" from that bed|strong="H4296" on which thou art gone up|strong="H5927", but shalt surely|strong="H4191" die|strong="H4191".

7 And he said|strong="H1696" unto them, What manner|strong="H4941" of man|strong="H0376" was he which came up|strong="H5927" to meet|strong="H7125" you, and told|strong="H1696" you these words|strong="H1697"?

8 And they answered|strong="H0559" him, He was an hairy|strong="H8181" man|strong="H1167", and girt|strong="H0247" with a girdle|strong="H0232" of leather|strong="H5785" about his loins|strong="H4975". And he said|strong="H0559", It is Elijah|strong="H0452" the Tishbite|strong="H8664".

9 Then the king|strong="H4428" sent|strong="H7971" unto him a captain|strong="H8269" of fifty|strong="H2572" with his fifty|strong="H2572". And he went up|strong="H5927" to him: and, behold, he sat|strong="H3427" on the top|strong="H7218" of an hill|strong="H2022". And he spake|strong="H1696" unto him, Thou man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430", the king|strong="H4428" hath said|strong="H1696", Come down|strong="H3381".

10 And Elijah|strong="H0452" answered|strong="H6030" and said|strong="H1696" to the captain|strong="H8269" of fifty|strong="H2572", If I be a man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430", then let fire|strong="H0784" come down|strong="H3381" from heaven|strong="H8064", and consume|strong="H0398" thee and thy fifty|strong="H2572". And there came down|strong="H3381" fire|strong="H0784" from heaven|strong="H8064", and consumed|strong="H0398" him and his fifty|strong="H2572".

11 Again|strong="H7725" also he sent|strong="H7971" unto him another|strong="H0312" captain|strong="H8269" of fifty|strong="H2572" with his fifty|strong="H2572". And he answered|strong="H6030" and said|strong="H1696" unto him, O man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430", thus hath the king|strong="H4428" said|strong="H0559", Come down|strong="H3381" quickly|strong="H4120".

12 And Elijah|strong="H0452" answered|strong="H6030" and said|strong="H1696" unto them, If I be a man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430", let fire|strong="H0784" come down|strong="H3381" from heaven|strong="H8064", and consume|strong="H0398" thee and thy fifty|strong="H2572". And the fire|strong="H0784" of God|strong="H0430" came down|strong="H3381" from heaven|strong="H8064", and consumed|strong="H0398" him and his fifty|strong="H2572".

13 And he sent|strong="H7971" again|strong="H7725" a captain|strong="H8269" of the third|strong="H7992" fifty|strong="H2572" with his fifty|strong="H2572". And the third|strong="H7992" captain|strong="H8269" of fifty|strong="H2572" went up|strong="H5927", and came|strong="H0935" and fell|strong="H3766" on his knees|strong="H1290" before|strong="H5048" Elijah|strong="H0452", and besought|strong="H2603" him, and said|strong="H1696" unto him, O man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430", I pray thee, let my life|strong="H5315", and the life|strong="H5315" of these fifty|strong="H2572" thy servants|strong="H5650", be precious|strong="H3365" in thy sight|strong="H5869".

14 Behold, there came|strong="H3381" fire|strong="H0784" down|strong="H3381" from heaven|strong="H8064", and burnt up|strong="H0398" the two|strong="H8147" captains|strong="H8269" of the former|strong="H7223" fifties|strong="H2572" with their fifties|strong="H2572": therefore let my life|strong="H5315" now be precious|strong="H3365" in thy sight|strong="H5869".

15 And the angel|strong="H4397" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H1696" unto Elijah|strong="H0452", Go down|strong="H3381" with him: be not afraid|strong="H3372" of him|strong="H6440". And he arose|strong="H6965", and went down|strong="H3381" with him unto the king|strong="H4428".

16 And he said|strong="H1696" unto him, Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, Forasmuch as thou hast sent|strong="H7971" messengers|strong="H4397" to enquire|strong="H1875" of Baal-zebub|strong="H1176" the god|strong="H0430" of Ekron|strong="H6138", is it not because there is no God|strong="H0430" in Israel|strong="H3478" to enquire|strong="H1875" of his word|strong="H1697"? therefore thou shalt not come down|strong="H3381" off that bed|strong="H4296" on which thou art gone up|strong="H5927", but shalt surely|strong="H4191" die|strong="H4191".

17 So he died|strong="H4191" according to the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* which Elijah|strong="H0452" had spoken|strong="H1696". And Jehoram|strong="H3088" reigned|strong="H4427" in his stead in the second|strong="H8147" year|strong="H8141" of Jehoram|strong="H3088" the son|strong="H1121" of Jehoshaphat|strong="H3092" king|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063"; because he had no son|strong="H1121".

18 Now the rest|strong="H3499" of the acts|strong="H1697" of Ahaziah|strong="H0274" which he did|strong="H6213", are they not written|strong="H3789" in the book|strong="H5612" of the chronicles|strong="H1697" of the kings|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478"?
