Josiah|strong="H2977" was eight|strong="H8083" years|strong="H8141" old|strong="H1121" when he began to reign|strong="H4427", and he reigned|strong="H4427" in Jerusalem|strong="H3389" one|strong="H0259" and thirty|strong="H7970" years|strong="H8141".
And he did|strong="H6213" that which was right|strong="H3477" in the sight|strong="H5869" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and walked|strong="H3212" in the ways|strong="H1870" of David|strong="H1732" his father|strong="H0001", and declined|strong="H5493" neither to the right hand|strong="H3225", nor to the left|strong="H8040".
For in the eighth|strong="H8083" year|strong="H8141" of his reign|strong="H4427", while he was yet young|strong="H5288", he began|strong="H2490" to seek|strong="H1875" after the God|strong="H0430" of David|strong="H1732" his father|strong="H0001": and in the twelfth|strong="H8147" year|strong="H8141" he began|strong="H2490" to purge|strong="H2891" Judah|strong="H3063" and Jerusalem|strong="H3389" from the high places|strong="H1116", and the groves|strong="H0842", and the carved images|strong="H6456", and the molten images|strong="H4541".
And they brake down|strong="H5422" the altars|strong="H4196" of Baalim|strong="H1168" in his presence|strong="H6440"; and the images|strong="H2553", that were on high above them|strong="H4605", he cut down|strong="H1438"; and the groves|strong="H0842", and the carved images|strong="H6456", and the molten images|strong="H4541", he brake in pieces|strong="H7665", and made dust|strong="H1854" of them, and strowed|strong="H2236" it upon|strong="H6440" the graves|strong="H6913" of them that had sacrificed|strong="H2076" unto them.
And he burnt|strong="H8313" the bones|strong="H6106" of the priests|strong="H3548" upon their altars|strong="H4196", and cleansed|strong="H2891" Judah|strong="H3063" and Jerusalem|strong="H3389".
And so did he in the cities|strong="H5892" of Manasseh|strong="H4519", and Ephraim|strong="H0669", and Simeon|strong="H8095", even unto Naphtali|strong="H5321", with their mattocks|strong="H2719" round about|strong="H5439".
And when he had broken down|strong="H5422" the altars|strong="H4196" and the groves|strong="H0842", and had beaten|strong="H3807" the graven images|strong="H6456" into powder|strong="H1854", and cut down|strong="H1438" all the idols|strong="H2553" throughout all the land|strong="H0776" of Israel|strong="H3478", he returned|strong="H7725" to Jerusalem|strong="H3389".
Now in the eighteenth|strong="H8083" year|strong="H8141" of his reign|strong="H4427", when he had purged|strong="H2891" the land|strong="H0776", and the house|strong="H1004", he sent|strong="H7971" Shaphan|strong="H8227" the son|strong="H1121" of Azaliah|strong="H0683", and Maaseiah|strong="H4641" the governor|strong="H8269" of the city|strong="H5892", and Joah|strong="H3098" the son|strong="H1121" of Joahaz|strong="H3099" the recorder|strong="H2142", to repair|strong="H2388" the house|strong="H1004" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* his God|strong="H0430".
And when they came|strong="H0935" to Hilkiah|strong="H2518" the high|strong="H1419" priest|strong="H3548", they delivered|strong="H5414" the money|strong="H3701" that was brought|strong="H0935" into the house|strong="H1004" of God|strong="H0430", which the Levites|strong="H3881" that kept|strong="H8104" the doors|strong="H5592" had gathered|strong="H0622" of the hand|strong="H3027" of Manasseh|strong="H4519" and Ephraim|strong="H0669", and of all the remnant|strong="H7611" of Israel|strong="H3478", and of all Judah|strong="H3063" and Benjamin|strong="H1144"; and they returned|strong="H7725" to Jerusalem|strong="H3389".
And they put|strong="H5414" it in the hand|strong="H3027" of the workmen|strong="H6213" that had the oversight|strong="H6485" of the house|strong="H1004" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and they gave|strong="H5414" it to the workmen|strong="H6213" that wrought|strong="H6213" in the house|strong="H1004" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, to repair|strong="H0918" and amend|strong="H2388" the house|strong="H1004":
Even to the artificers|strong="H2796" and builders|strong="H1129" gave|strong="H5414" they it, to buy|strong="H7069" hewn|strong="H4274" stone|strong="H0068", and timber|strong="H6086" for couplings|strong="H4226", and to floor|strong="H7136" the houses|strong="H1004" which the kings|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063" had destroyed|strong="H7843".
And the men|strong="H0582" did|strong="H6213" the work|strong="H4399" faithfully|strong="H0530": and the overseers|strong="H5329" of them were Jahath|strong="H3189" and Obadiah|strong="H5662", the Levites|strong="H3881", of the sons|strong="H1121" of Merari|strong="H4847"; and Zechariah|strong="H2148" and Meshullam|strong="H4918", of the sons of the Kohathites|strong="H6956", to set it forward|strong="H6485"; and other of the Levites|strong="H3881", all that could skill|strong="H0995" of instruments|strong="H3627" of musick|strong="H7892".
Also they were over the bearers of burdens|strong="H5449", and were overseers|strong="H5329" of all that wrought|strong="H6213" the work|strong="H4399" in any manner of service|strong="H5656": and of the Levites|strong="H3881" there were scribes|strong="H5608", and officers|strong="H7860", and porters|strong="H7778".
And when they brought out|strong="H3318" the money|strong="H3701" that was brought into|strong="H0935" the house|strong="H1004" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, Hilkiah|strong="H2518" the priest|strong="H3548" found|strong="H4672" a book|strong="H5612" of the law|strong="H8451" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* given by|strong="H3027" Moses|strong="H4872".
And Hilkiah|strong="H2518" answered|strong="H6030" and said|strong="H0559" to Shaphan|strong="H8227" the scribe|strong="H5608", I have found|strong="H4672" the book|strong="H5612" of the law|strong="H8451" in the house|strong="H1004" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*. And Hilkiah|strong="H2518" delivered|strong="H5414" the book|strong="H5612" to Shaphan|strong="H8227".
And Shaphan|strong="H8227" carried|strong="H0935" the book|strong="H5612" to the king|strong="H4428", and brought|strong="H7725" the king|strong="H4428" word|strong="H1697" back|strong="H7725" again, saying|strong="H0559", All that was committed|strong="H5414" to|strong="H3027" thy servants|strong="H5650", they do|strong="H6213" it.
And they have gathered together|strong="H5413" the money|strong="H3701" that was found|strong="H4672" in the house|strong="H1004" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and have delivered|strong="H5414" it into the hand|strong="H3027" of the overseers|strong="H6485", and to the hand|strong="H3027" of the workmen|strong="H6213".
Then Shaphan|strong="H8227" the scribe|strong="H5608" told|strong="H5046" the king|strong="H4428", saying|strong="H0559", Hilkiah|strong="H2518" the priest|strong="H3548" hath given|strong="H5414" me a book|strong="H5612". And Shaphan|strong="H8227" read|strong="H7121" it before|strong="H6440" the king|strong="H4428".
And it came to pass, when the king|strong="H4428" had heard|strong="H8085" the words|strong="H1697" of the law|strong="H8451", that he rent|strong="H7167" his clothes|strong="H0899".
And the king|strong="H4428" commanded|strong="H6680" Hilkiah|strong="H2518", and Ahikam|strong="H0296" the son|strong="H1121" of Shaphan|strong="H8227", and Abdon|strong="H5658" the son|strong="H1121" of Micah|strong="H4318", and Shaphan|strong="H8227" the scribe|strong="H5608", and Asaiah|strong="H6222" a servant|strong="H5650" of the king’s|strong="H4428", saying|strong="H0559",
Go|strong="H3212", enquire|strong="H1875" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* for me, and for them that are left|strong="H7604" in Israel|strong="H3478" and in Judah|strong="H3063", concerning the words|strong="H1697" of the book|strong="H5612" that is found|strong="H4672": for great|strong="H1419" is the wrath|strong="H2534" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* that is poured out|strong="H5413" upon us, because our fathers|strong="H0001" have not kept|strong="H8104" the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, to do|strong="H6213" after all that is written|strong="H3789" in this book|strong="H5612".
And Hilkiah|strong="H2518", and they that the king|strong="H4428" had appointed, went|strong="H3212" to Huldah|strong="H2468" the prophetess|strong="H5031", the wife|strong="H0802" of Shallum|strong="H7967" the son|strong="H1121" of Tikvath|strong="H8616", the son|strong="H1121" of Hasrah|strong="H2641", keeper|strong="H8104" of the wardrobe|strong="H0899"; (now she dwelt|strong="H3427" in Jerusalem|strong="H3389" in the college|strong="H4932":) and they spake|strong="H1696" to her to that effect.
And she answered|strong="H0559" them, Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478", Tell|strong="H0559" ye the man|strong="H0376" that sent|strong="H7971" you to me,
Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, Behold, I will bring|strong="H0935" evil|strong="H7451" upon this place|strong="H4725", and upon the inhabitants|strong="H3427" thereof, even all the curses|strong="H0423" that are written|strong="H3789" in the book|strong="H5612" which they have read|strong="H7121" before|strong="H6440" the king|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063":
Because they have forsaken|strong="H5800" me, and have burned incense|strong="H6999" unto other|strong="H0312" gods|strong="H0430", that they might provoke me to anger|strong="H3707" with all the works|strong="H4639" of their hands|strong="H3027"; therefore my wrath|strong="H2534" shall be poured out|strong="H5413" upon this place|strong="H4725", and shall not be quenched|strong="H3518".
And as for|strong="H0413" the king|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063", who sent|strong="H7971" you to enquire|strong="H1875" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, so shall ye say|strong="H0559" unto him, Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478" concerning the words|strong="H1697" which thou hast heard|strong="H8085";
Because thine heart|strong="H3824" was tender|strong="H7401", and thou didst humble|strong="H3665" thyself before|strong="H6440" God|strong="H0430", when thou heardest|strong="H8085" his words|strong="H1697" against this place|strong="H4725", and against the inhabitants|strong="H3427" thereof, and humbledst|strong="H3665" thyself before|strong="H6440" me, and didst rend|strong="H7167" thy clothes|strong="H0899", and weep|strong="H1058" before|strong="H6440" me; I have even heard|strong="H8085" thee also, saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.
Behold, I will gather|strong="H0622" thee to thy fathers|strong="H0001", and thou shalt be gathered|strong="H0622" to thy grave|strong="H6913" in peace|strong="H7965", neither shall thine eyes|strong="H5869" see|strong="H7200" all the evil|strong="H7451" that I will bring|strong="H0935" upon this place|strong="H4725", and upon the inhabitants|strong="H3427" of the same. So they brought|strong="H7725" the king|strong="H4428" word|strong="H1697" again|strong="H7725".
Then the king|strong="H4428" sent|strong="H7971" and gathered together|strong="H0622" all the elders|strong="H2205" of Judah|strong="H3063" and Jerusalem|strong="H3389".
And the king|strong="H4428" went up|strong="H5927" into the house|strong="H1004" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and all the men|strong="H0376" of Judah|strong="H3063", and the inhabitants|strong="H3427" of Jerusalem|strong="H3389", and the priests|strong="H3548", and the Levites|strong="H3881", and all the people|strong="H5971", great|strong="H1419" and small|strong="H6996": and he read|strong="H7121" in their ears|strong="H0241" all the words|strong="H1697" of the book|strong="H5612" of the covenant|strong="H1285" that was found|strong="H4672" in the house|strong="H1004" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.
And the king|strong="H4428" stood|strong="H5975" in his place|strong="H5977", and made|strong="H3772" a covenant|strong="H1285" before|strong="H6440" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, to walk|strong="H3212" after|strong="H0310" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and to keep|strong="H8104" his commandments|strong="H4687", and his testimonies|strong="H5715", and his statutes|strong="H2706", with all his heart|strong="H3824", and with all his soul|strong="H5315", to perform|strong="H6213" the words|strong="H1697" of the covenant|strong="H1285" which are written|strong="H3789" in this book|strong="H5612".
And he caused all that were present|strong="H4672" in Jerusalem|strong="H3389" and Benjamin|strong="H1144" to stand|strong="H5975" to it. And the inhabitants|strong="H3427" of Jerusalem|strong="H3389" did|strong="H6213" according to the covenant|strong="H1285" of God|strong="H0430", the God|strong="H0430" of their fathers|strong="H0001".
And Josiah|strong="H2977" took away|strong="H5493" all the abominations|strong="H8441" out of all the countries|strong="H0776" that pertained to the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478", and made all that were present|strong="H4672" in Israel|strong="H3478" to serve|strong="H5647", even to serve|strong="H5647" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* their God|strong="H0430". And all his days|strong="H3117" they departed|strong="H5493" not from following|strong="H0310" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, the God|strong="H0430" of their fathers|strong="H0001".
