Then came|strong="H0935" David|strong="H1732" to Nob|strong="H5011" to Ahimelech|strong="H0288" the priest|strong="H3548": and Ahimelech|strong="H0288" was afraid|strong="H2729" at the meeting|strong="H7125" of David|strong="H1732", and said|strong="H0559" unto him, Why art thou alone, and no man|strong="H0376" with thee?
And David|strong="H1732" said|strong="H0559" unto Ahimelech|strong="H0288" the priest|strong="H3548", The king|strong="H4428" hath commanded|strong="H6680" me a business|strong="H1697", and hath said|strong="H0559" unto me, Let no man|strong="H0376" know|strong="H3045" any thing|strong="H3972" of the business|strong="H1697" whereabout I send|strong="H7971" thee, and what I have commanded|strong="H6680" thee: and I have appointed|strong="H3045" my servants|strong="H5288" to such|strong="H6423" and such|strong="H0492" a place|strong="H4725".
Now therefore what is|strong="H3426" under thine hand|strong="H3027"? give|strong="H5414" me five|strong="H2568" loaves of bread|strong="H3899" in mine hand|strong="H3027", or what there is present|strong="H4672".
And the priest|strong="H3548" answered|strong="H6030" David|strong="H1732", and said|strong="H0559", There is no common|strong="H2455" bread|strong="H3899" under mine hand|strong="H3027", but there is|strong="H3426" hallowed|strong="H6944" bread|strong="H3899"; if the young men|strong="H5288" have kept|strong="H8104" themselves at least|strong="H0389" from women|strong="H0802".
And David|strong="H1732" answered|strong="H6030" the priest|strong="H3548", and said|strong="H0559" unto him, Of a truth|strong="H0518" women|strong="H0802" have been kept|strong="H6113" from us about these three|strong="H8032" days|strong="H8543", since I came out|strong="H3318", and the vessels|strong="H3627" of the young men|strong="H5288" are holy|strong="H6944", and the bread is in a manner|strong="H1870" common|strong="H2455", yea, though it were sanctified|strong="H6942" this day|strong="H3117" in the vessel|strong="H3627".
So the priest|strong="H3548" gave|strong="H5414" him hallowed|strong="H6944" bread: for there was no bread|strong="H3899" there but the shewbread|strong="H3899", that was taken|strong="H5493" from before|strong="H6440" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, to put|strong="H7760" hot|strong="H2527" bread|strong="H3899" in the day|strong="H3117" when it was taken away|strong="H3947".
Now a certain man|strong="H0376" of the servants|strong="H5650" of Saul|strong="H7586" was there that day|strong="H3117", detained|strong="H6113" before|strong="H6440" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; and his name|strong="H8034" was Doeg|strong="H1673", an Edomite|strong="H0130", the chiefest|strong="H0047" of the herdmen|strong="H7462" that belonged to Saul|strong="H7586".
And David|strong="H1732" said|strong="H0559" unto Ahimelech|strong="H0288", And is there|strong="H3426" not|strong="H0371" here under thine hand|strong="H3027" spear|strong="H2595" or sword|strong="H2719"? for I have neither brought|strong="H3947" my sword|strong="H2719" nor my weapons|strong="H3627" with me|strong="H3027", because the king’s|strong="H4428" business|strong="H1697" required|strong="H1961" haste|strong="H5169".
And the priest|strong="H3548" said|strong="H0559", The sword|strong="H2719" of Goliath|strong="H1555" the Philistine|strong="H6430", whom thou slewest|strong="H5221" in the valley|strong="H6010" of Elah|strong="H0425", behold, it is here wrapped|strong="H3874" in a cloth|strong="H8071" behind|strong="H0310" the ephod|strong="H0646": if thou wilt take|strong="H3947" that, take|strong="H3947" it: for there is no other|strong="H0312" save|strong="H2108" that here|strong="H2088". And David|strong="H1732" said|strong="H0559", There is none like that; give|strong="H5414" it me.
And David|strong="H1732" arose|strong="H6965", and fled|strong="H1272" that day|strong="H3117" for fear|strong="H6440" of Saul|strong="H7586", and went|strong="H0935" to Achish|strong="H0397" the king|strong="H4428" of Gath|strong="H1661".
And the servants|strong="H5650" of Achish|strong="H0397" said|strong="H0559" unto him, Is not this David|strong="H1732" the king|strong="H4428" of the land|strong="H0776"? did they not sing|strong="H6030" one to another of him|strong="H2088" in dances|strong="H4246", saying|strong="H0559", Saul|strong="H7586" hath slain|strong="H5221" his thousands|strong="H0505", and David|strong="H1732" his ten thousands|strong="H7233"?
And David|strong="H1732" laid up|strong="H7760" these words|strong="H1697" in his heart|strong="H3824", and was sore|strong="H3966" afraid|strong="H3372" of|strong="H6440" Achish|strong="H0397" the king|strong="H4428" of Gath|strong="H1661".
And he changed|strong="H8138" his behaviour|strong="H2940" before|strong="H5869" them, and feigned himself mad|strong="H1984" in their hands|strong="H3027", and scrabbled|strong="H8427" on the doors|strong="H1817" of the gate|strong="H8179", and let his spittle|strong="H7388" fall down|strong="H3381" upon his beard|strong="H2206".
Then said|strong="H0559" Achish|strong="H0397" unto his servants|strong="H5650", Lo, ye see|strong="H7200" the man|strong="H0376" is mad|strong="H7696": wherefore then have ye brought|strong="H0935" him to me?
Have I need|strong="H2638" of mad men|strong="H7696", that ye have brought|strong="H0935" this fellow to play the mad man|strong="H7696" in my presence? shall this fellow come|strong="H0935" into my house|strong="H1004"?
