1 At that the time heard Herod the tetrarch the fame of Jesus,
1 Naquele tempo Herodes, o governador da Galileia, ouviu falar a respeito de Jesus.
2 and said to the servants of him: This is the John the dipper; he is raised from the dead, and therefore this the mighty powers work in him.
2 Então ele disse aos seus funcionários: — Esse homem é João Batista, que foi ressuscitado. Por isso esse homem tem poder para fazer milagres.
3 The for Herod, seizing the John, had bound him, and put in prison, on account of Herodias the wife of Philip the brother of him.
3 Pois Herodes tinha mandado prender João, amarrar as suas mãos e jogá-lo na cadeia. Ele havia feito isso por causa de Herodias, esposa do seu irmão Filipe.
4 He said for to him the John: Not it is lawful to thee to have her.
4 Pois João Batista tinha dito muitas vezes a Herodes: “Pela nossa Lei você é proibido de casar com Herodias!”
5 And wishing him to destroy, he feared the people, for as a prophet him they esteemed.
5 Herodes queria matá-lo, mas tinha medo do povo, pois eles achavam que João era profeta .
6 Birthday of but was being held of the Herod, danced the daughter of Herodias in the midst; and pleased the Herod;
6 No dia do aniversário de Herodes, a filha de Herodias dançou diante de todos, e ele gostou tanto,
7 whereupon with an oath he promised to her to give, what soever she might ask.
7 que prometeu à moça: — Juro que darei tudo o que você me pedir!
8 She and, being incited by the mother of her, Give to me, she said, here upon a plate the head of John the dipper.
8 Seguindo o conselho da sua mãe, ela pediu: — Quero a cabeça de João Batista num prato, agora mesmo!
9 And was sorry the king; because of but the oaths and those reclining at table, he commanded it to be given.
9 O rei Herodes ficou triste, mas, por causa do juramento que havia feito na frente dos convidados, ordenou que o pedido da moça fosse atendido.
10 And sending he cut off the head of the John in the prison.
10 E mandou que cortassem a cabeça de João Batista, na cadeia.
11 And was brought the head of him on a plate, and it was given to the little girl; and she brought it to the mother of her.
11 Aí trouxeram a cabeça num prato, entregaram para a moça, e ela a levou para a sua mãe.
12 And coming the disciples of him took the body, and they buried it; and departing they told it to the Jesus.
12 Então os discípulos de João vieram, levaram o corpo dele e o sepultaram. Depois foram contar isso a Jesus.
13 And having heard the Jesus, withdrew from thence in a ship into a desert place by himself; and having heard the crowds, they followed him by land from the cities.
13 Ao saber o que havia acontecido, Jesus saiu dali num barco e foi sozinho para um lugar deserto. Mas as multidões souberam onde ele estava, vieram dos seus povoados e o seguiram por terra.
14 And coming out the Jesus saw great a crowd; and he was moved with pity towards them, and healed the sick of them.
14 Quando Jesus saiu do barco e viu aquela grande multidão, ficou com muita pena deles e curou os doentes que estavam ali.
15 Evening and having come, came to him the disciples of him, saying: A desert is the place, and the hour has passed by; dismiss the crowds, that going into the villages, they may buy themselves victuals.
15 De tardinha, os discípulos chegaram perto de Jesus e disseram: — Já é tarde, e este lugar é deserto. Mande essa gente embora, a fim de que vão aos povoados e comprem alguma coisa para comer.
16 The but Jesus said to them: No need they have to go away; give to them you to eat.
16 Mas Jesus respondeu:
17 They and say to him: Not we have here, except five loaves and two fishes,
17 Eles disseram: — Só temos aqui cinco pães e dois peixes.
18 He and said: Bring to me them here.
18 — Pois tragam para mim! — disse Jesus.
19 And directing the crowds to recline upon the grass, taking the five loaves, and the two fishes, looking up to the heaven, he gave praise; and breaking, he gave to the disciples the loaves, the and disciples to the crowds.
19 Então mandou o povo sentar-se na grama. Depois pegou os cinco pães e os dois peixes, olhou para o céu e deu graças a Deus. Partiu os pães, entregou-os aos discípulos, e estes distribuíram ao povo.
20 And they ate all, and were filled; and they took up the over and above of the fragments, twelve baskets full.
20 Todos comeram e ficaram satisfeitos, e os discípulos ainda recolheram doze cestos cheios dos pedaços que sobraram.
21 Those and eating were men about fivethousand, besides women and children.
21 Os que comeram foram mais ou menos cinco mil homens, sem contar as mulheres e as crianças.
22 And immediately he urged the disciples to enter into the ship, and to go before him to the other side, while he should dismiss the crowds.
22 Logo depois, Jesus ordenou aos discípulos que subissem no barco e fossem na frente para o lado oeste do lago, enquanto ele mandava o povo embora.
23 And having sent away the crowds, he went up into the mountain by himself to pray. Evening and having come, alone he was there.
23 Depois de mandar o povo embora, Jesus subiu um monte a fim de orar sozinho. Quando chegou a noite, ele estava ali, sozinho.
24 The and ship now in the midst of the sea was, having been tossed by the waves; was for contrary the wind.
24 Naquele momento o barco já estava no meio do lago. E as ondas batiam com força no barco porque o vento soprava contra ele.
25 In forth and watch of the night he went to them, walking upon the sea.
25 Já de madrugada, entre as três e as seis horas, Jesus foi até lá, andando em cima da água.
26 And seeing him the disciples upon the sea walking, they were terrified, saying: That an apparition is; and from the fear they cried aloud.
26 Quando os discípulos viram Jesus andando em cima da água, ficaram apavorados e exclamaram: — É um fantasma! E gritaram de medo.
27 Immediately but spake to them the Jesus, saying: Take courage, I am; not be afraid.
27 Nesse instante Jesus disse:
28 Answering and him the Peter said: O lord, if thou art, bid me to thee to come upon the water.
28 Então Pedro disse: — Se é o senhor mesmo, mande que eu vá andando em cima da água até onde o senhor está.
29 He and said: Come. And descending from the boat the Peter, he walked upon the water, to come to the Jesus.
29 — Venha! — respondeu Jesus. Pedro saiu do barco e começou a andar em cima da água, em direção a Jesus.
30 Seeing but the wind strong, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying: O lord, save me.
30 Porém, quando sentiu a força do vento, ficou com medo e começou a afundar. Então gritou: — Socorro, Senhor!
31 Immediately and the Jesus stretching out the hand, took hold of him, and says to him: O distrustful man, for why didst thou doubt?
31 Imediatamente Jesus estendeu a mão, segurou Pedro e disse:
32 And entering of them into the ship, ceased the wind.
32 Então os dois subiram no barco, e o vento se acalmou.
33 They and in the ship, coming prostrated to him saying: Certainly of a God a son thou art.
33 E os discípulos adoraram Jesus, dizendo: — De fato, o senhor é o Filho de Deus!
34 And having passed over, they came to the land Gennesaret.
34 Jesus e os discípulos atravessaram o lago e chegaram à região de Genesaré.
35 And knowing him the men of the place that, they send into all the country round about that, and they brought to him all those disease having,
35 Ali o povo reconheceu Jesus e avisou todos os doentes das regiões vizinhas. Então muitas pessoas levaram doentes a ele,
36 and besought him that only they might touch the tuft of the mantle of him; and as many as touched, were made whole.
36 pedindo que deixasse que os doentes pelo menos tocassem na barra da sua roupa. E todos os que tocavam nela ficavam curados.
