1 Before the Passover Feast had started, Jesus saw that the time had come for him to leave this world. The time had come for him to go back to his Father. He loved his own people who were in the world. And he loved them the same way right to the end.
1 Antes da festa da Páscoa, Jesus sabia que havia chegado sua hora de deixar este mundo e voltar para o Pai. Ele tinha amado seus discípulos durante seu ministério na terra, e os amou até o fim.
2 He and his disciples were eating together. The devil had already put it into Judas heart to give Jesus over to people who hated him. (Judas was the son of Simon Iscariot.)
2 Estava na hora do jantar, e o diabo já havia instigado Judas, filho de Simão Iscariotes, a trair Jesus.
3 Jesus knew that his Father had put everything into his hands. He knew he had come from God. He knew he was going back to God.
3 Jesus sabia que o Pai lhe dera autoridade sobre todas as coisas e que viera de Deus e voltaria para Deus.
4 Jesus stood up where he had been eating. He took off his outer clothing. And he took a towel and tied it around him.
4 Assim, levantou-se da mesa, tirou a capa e enrolou uma toalha na cintura.
5 Then he poured water into a pan and began to wash the disciples feet. He wiped their feet with the towel he had tied around him.
5 Depois, derramou água numa bacia e começou a lavar os pés de seus discípulos, enxugando-os com a toalha que estava em sua cintura.
6 He came to Simon Peter. Peter said to him, Lord, are you going to wash my feet?
6 Quando Jesus chegou a Simão Pedro, este lhe disse: “O Senhor vai lavar os meus pés?”.
7 Jesus answered him, You do not understand now what I am doing, but you will understand it later.
7 Jesus respondeu: “Você não entende agora o que estou fazendo, mas algum dia entenderá”.
8 Peter said to him, You will never wash my feet! Jesus answered him, If I do not wash you, then you do not belong to me.
8 “Lavar os meus pés? De jeito nenhum!”, protestou Pedro. Jesus respondeu: “Se eu não os lavar, você não terá comunhão comigo”.
9 Simon Peter said to him, Lord, wash my feet, and my hands, and my head also!
9 Simão Pedro exclamou: “Senhor, então lave também minhas mãos e minha cabeça, e não somente os pés!”.
10 Jesus said, A person who has bathed himself needs to wash his feet only. He is all clean. You are clean, but not all of you.
10 Jesus respondeu: “A pessoa que tomou banho completo só precisa lavar os pés para ficar totalmente limpa. E vocês estão limpos, mas nem todos”.
11 Jesus knew who was going to give him over to people who hated him. That is why he said, You are not all clean.
11 Pois Jesus sabia quem o trairia. Foi a isso que se referiu quando disse: “Nem todos vocês estão limpos”.
12 After Jesus had finished washing their feet, he took his gown and sat down again. Do you understand what I have done to you? he asked.
12 Depois de lavar os pés deles, Jesus vestiu a capa novamente, retornou a seu lugar e perguntou: “Vocês entendem o que fiz?
13 You call me Master and Lord. What you say is right. I am your Master and Lord.
13 Vocês me chamam ‘Mestre’ e ‘Senhor’, e têm razão, porque eu sou.
14 I am your Lord and Master and have washed your feet. If I do that, then you should wash one anothers feet.
14 E uma vez que eu, seu Senhor e Mestre, lavei seus pés, vocês devem lavar os pés uns dos outros.
15 I have shown you what to do. Now you do as I have done.
15 Eu lhes dei um exemplo a ser seguido. Façam como eu fiz a vocês.
16 I tell you the truth. The servant is not better than his master. The one who is sent is not better than the one who sent him.
16 Eu lhes digo a verdade: o escravo não é maior que o seu senhor, nem o mensageiro é mais importante que aquele que o envia.
17 Do you understand what I have told you? If you do, you will have much happiness for doing it.
17 Agora que vocês sabem estas coisas, serão felizes se as praticarem.”
18 I am not talking about all of you but I know the people I have chosen. So Gods word comes true. The holy writings say, "He who is eating my bread has turned against me."
18 “Não digo estas coisas a todos vocês; conheço os que escolhi. Mas isto cumpre as Escrituras que dizem: ‘Aquele que come do meu alimento voltou-se contra mim’.
19 I am telling you this now before it happens. So when it happens you will believe who I am.
19 Eu lhes digo isso de antemão, para que, quando acontecer, vocês creiam que eu sou aquele de quem falam as Escrituras.
20 I tell you the truth. The person who receives the one I send, receives me. He that receives me, receives the one who sent me.
20 Eu lhes digo a verdade: quem recebe aquele que envio recebe a mim, e quem recebe a mim recebe o Pai, que me enviou”.
21 When Jesus had said this, he was troubled in his heart. He said, I tell you the truth. One of you will give me over to people who hate me.
21 Então Jesus sentiu profunda angústia e exclamou: “Eu lhes digo a verdade: um de vocês vai me trair!”.
22 The disciples looked at one another. They did not know which one of them Jesus was talking about.
22 Os discípulos olharam uns para os outros, sem saber a quem ele se referia.
23 The disciple Jesus loved was at his right side.
23 O discípulo a quem Jesus amava ocupava o lugar ao lado dele à mesa.
24 Simon Peter nodded to that disciple. He said, Tell us who he is talking about.
24 Simão Pedro lhe fez um sinal para que perguntasse a quem Jesus se referia.
25 He who was at Jesus right side said to Jesus, Lord, who is it?
25 Então o discípulo se inclinou para Jesus e perguntou: “Senhor, quem é?”.
26 Jesus answered, I will put a piece of bread in the dish. Then I will give it to that one. He put in the bread, then he took it and gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot.
26 Jesus respondeu: “É aquele a quem eu der o pedaço de pão que molhei na tigela”. E, depois de molhar o pedaço de pão, deu-o a Judas, filho de Simão Iscariotes.
27 Right after Jesus had given the bread, Satan came into Judas. Then Jesus said to him, What you are going to do, do right away.
27 Quando Judas comeu o pão, Satanás entrou nele. Então Jesus lhe disse: “O que você vai fazer, faça logo”.
28 No one at the table knew why Jesus said, Do it right away.
28 Nenhum dos outros à mesa entendeu o que Jesus quis dizer.
29 Judas had the money bag. Some thought that Jesus was telling him, Buy what we need for the feast, or that he wanted Judas to give something to the poor people.
29 Como Judas era o tesoureiro, alguns imaginaram que Jesus tinha mandado que ele comprasse o necessário para a festa ou desse algum dinheiro aos pobres.
30 Judas went out right after he had taken the bread. It was night.
30 Judas saiu depressa, e era noite.
31 When he had gone out, Jesus said, Now the Son of Man is very great. And he has made Gods name great.
31 Assim que Judas saiu, Jesus disse: “Chegou a hora de o Filho do Homem ser glorificado e, por causa dele, Deus será glorificado.
32 If he has made Gods name great, God also will make him great by his own power. He will do it right away.
32 Uma vez que Deus recebe glória por causa do Filho, ele dará ao Filho sua glória, de uma vez por todas.
33 My children, I am with you for a short time longer. You will look for me. What I said to the Jews I say to you now: "You cannot come to the place where I am going."
33 Meus filhos, estarei com vocês apenas mais um pouco. E, como eu disse aos líderes judeus, vocês me procurarão, mas não poderão ir para onde eu vou.
34 I give you a new law. That law is, "Love each other." As I have loved you, so you also love each other.
34 Por isso, agora eu lhes dou um novo mandamento: Amem uns aos outros. Assim como eu os amei, vocês devem amar uns aos outros.
35 This is how all people will know that you are my disciples.
35 Seu amor uns pelos outros provará ao mundo que são meus discípulos”.
36 Simon Peter said to him, Lord, where are you going? Jesus answered him, You cannot go with me where I am going now. Later on you will go with me.
36 Simão Pedro perguntou: “Para onde o Senhor vai?”. Jesus respondeu: “Para onde vou vocês não podem ir agora, mas me seguirão mais tarde”.
37 Peter said to him, Lord, why can I not go with you now? I am willing to die for you.
37 “Senhor, por que não posso ir agora?”, perguntou ele. “Estou disposto a morrer pelo senhor.”
38 Jesus answered him, Will you die for me? I tell you the truth. Before the cock calls, you will say three times that you do not know me.
38 “Morrer por mim?”, disse Jesus. “Eu lhe digo a verdade, Pedro: antes que o galo cante, você me negará três vezes.”
