1 Now I, Paul, beg you to do something since you know that Christ was kind and gentle. You say I am weak when I am face to face with you, but when I am not with you, then I speak to you with hard words.
1 Além disso, eu, Paulo, vos rogo, pela mansidão e benignidade de Cristo, eu que, na verdade, quando presente entre vós, sou humilde, mas ausente, ousado para convosco;
2 I beg you, do not force me to talk hard words when I come. I have made up my mind to talk hard words against some people. They think we are living for the things in this world.
2 rogo- vos, pois, que, quando estiver presente, não me veja obrigado a usar com confiança da ousadia que espero ter com alguns que nos julgam como se andássemos segundo a carne.
3 Of course we are living in bodies made for this world. But we are not fighting for the things in this world.
3 Porque, andando na carne, não militamos segundo a carne.
4 We do not use the things of this world in our fighting, but we use the power of God. This power can break down the walls where the enemy hides.
4 Porque as armas da nossa milícia não são carnais, mas, sim, poderosas em Deus, para destruição das fortalezas;
5 We can break down what people think and every big idea that tries to stop people from knowing God. And we can make every thought a prisoner to obey Christ.
5 destruindo os conselhos e toda altivez que se levanta contra o conhecimento de Deus, e levando cativo todo entendimento à obediência de Cristo,
6 Only when you all obey, then we are ready to punish anyone who will not obey.
6 e estando prontos para vingar toda desobediência, quando for cumprida a vossa obediência.
7 Surely you can see this. If one person is sure that he belongs to Christ, then he should see that we too belong to Christ just as he does.
7 Olhais para as coisas segundo a aparência? Se alguém confia de si mesmo que é de Cristo, pense outra vez isto consigo: assim como ele é de Cristo, também nós de Cristo somos.
8 The Lord gave us power to build you up, not to break you down. Maybe I talk about it too much. But I feel I am right in talking about it.
8 Porque, ainda que eu me glorie mais alguma coisa do nosso poder, o qual o Senhor nos deu para edificação e não para vossa destruição, não me envergonharei,
9 I do not want you to think that I am trying to make you afraid by my letters.
9 para que não pareça como se quisera intimidar-vos por cartas.
10 Some people say, Pauls letters make us listen. They are strong. But he himself is weak and what he says is not worth listening to.
10 Porque as suas cartas, dizem, são graves e fortes, mas a presença do corpo é fraca, e a palavra, desprezível.
11 People like that should know this. When we come we will do what we have said in our letters.
11 Pense o tal isto: quais somos na palavra por cartas, estando ausentes, tais seremos também por obra, estando presentes.
12 We do not want to be like those people who praise themselves. They measure themselves by their own ideas, and look at themselves to see how good they are. When they do that, they are foolish!
12 Porque não ousamos classificar-nos ou comparar-nos com alguns que se louvam a si mesmos; mas esses que se medem a si mesmos e se comparam consigo mesmos estão sem entendimento.
13 We will not talk of things we did not do. No, we will only be proud of those things which God has given us to do. And he has sent us even as far as you.
13 Porém não nos gloriaremos fora de medida, mas conforme a reta medida que Deus nos deu, para chegarmos até vós;
14 We are not going farther than we should when we come to you. We were the first to come all the way to you with the good news of Christ.
14 porque não nos estendemos além do que convém, como se não houvéssemos de chegar até vós, pois já chegamos também até vós no evangelho de Cristo;
15 We will not be proud of other mens work which we did not do. We hope that you will believe more strongly, so that we can do more work among you, as God gives it to us.
15 não nos gloriando fora de medida nos trabalhos alheios; antes, tendo esperança de que, crescendo a vossa fé, seremos abundantemente engrandecidos entre vós, conforme a nossa regra,
16 Then we hope to tell the good news in places far beyond you. We will not be proud of the work given to someone else to do-work that was done before we got there.
16 para anunciar o evangelho nos lugares que estão além de vós e não em campo de outrem, para nos não gloriarmos no que estava já preparado.
17 The holy writings say that the person who is proud should be proud only of the Lord.
17 Aquele, porém, que se gloria, glorie-se no Senhor.
18 A man who praises himself is not a man who is good. The man who is really good is the man whom the Lord praises.
18 Porque não é aprovado quem a si mesmo se louva, mas, sim, aquele a quem o Senhor louva.
