1 Do not be angry with an older man if he has done something wrong, but talk kindly to him as you would talk to your father. Talk to the young men like brothers.
1 Não repreenda um homem mais velho, mas o aconselhe como se ele fosse o seu pai. Trate os homens mais jovens como irmãos,
2 Talk to the older women like mothers. Talk to the young women like sisters. And be sure to keep a clean mind and heart in all this.
2 as mulheres idosas, como mães e as mulheres jovens, como irmãs, com toda a pureza.
3 Help widow women, whose husbands are dead, if they have no one to help them.
3 Cuide das viúvas que não tenham ninguém para ajudá-las.
4 If they have children or grandchildren, they should learn that the first place to do Gods work is in the home to help their own family. They should help their parents because their parents have helped them. This will please God.
4 Mas, se alguma viúva tem filhos ou netos, são eles que devem primeiro aprender a cumprir os seus deveres religiosos, cuidando da sua própria família. Assim eles pagarão o que receberam dos seus pais e avós, pois Deus gosta disso.
5 A widow who has no one to help her, and is alone, trusts in God. Day and night she talks to God and asks him for the things she needs.
5 A verdadeira viúva, aquela que não tem ninguém para cuidar dela, põe a sua esperança em Deus e ora, de dia e de noite, pedindo a ajuda dele.
6 But a woman who spends her time in pleasing herself is really dead, even while she still lives.
6 Porém a viúva que se entrega ao prazer está morta em vida.
7 Tell them these things so that they will do what is right.
7 Timóteo, mande que as viúvas façam o que eu aconselho para que ninguém possa culpá-las de nada.
8 A man must care for his own people. At least he must care for his family. If he does not care for them, he shows that he does not believe in God. He is worse than one who has never believed.
8 Porém aquele que não cuida dos seus parentes, especialmente dos da sua própria família, negou a fé e é pior do que os que não creem.
9 A widow who is over sixty years old, may be chosen to help the church people. But she must have been the wife of one husband.
9 Coloque na lista das viúvas somente a que tiver mais de sessenta anos e que tiver casado uma vez só.
10 People must speak well of the good works she has done. Has she brought up children? Has she been kind to strangers and cared for them in her house? Has she washed the feet of Gods people? Has she helped people who were in trouble? Has she done every kind of good thing to help people?
10 Ela deve ser conhecida como uma mulher que sempre praticou boas ações, criou bem os filhos, hospedou pessoas na sua casa, prestou serviços humildes aos que pertencem ao povo de Deus, ajudou os necessitados, enfim, fez todo tipo de coisas boas.
11 But do not choose young women. When they begin to love other things more than Christ, they will want to marry again.
11 Mas não ponha na lista as viúvas mais jovens; porque, quando os seus desejos fazem com que queiram casar de novo, elas abandonam a Cristo.
12 And that will be wrong for them because they have not kept their first promise.
12 E assim elas se tornam culpadas de quebrar a primeira promessa que fizeram a ele .
13 Not only that, but they also become lazy. They walk about going from house to house. Not only are they lazy but they talk too much and tell stories about people. They tell things they should not tell.
13 Além disso, elas se acostumam a não fazer nada e a andar de casa em casa; e, pior ainda, aprendem a ser mexeriqueiras, metendo-se em tudo e falando coisas que não devem.
14 So I would like young women to marry again and have children. They should care for their homes. They should do nothing that would make the enemy say wrong things about them.
14 Por isso, eu quero que as viúvas mais novas casem, tenham filhos e cuidem da sua casa, para que os nossos inimigos não tenham motivos para falar mal de nós.
15 Some have already turned away to follow Satan.
15 Pois algumas viúvas já se desviaram e seguiram Satanás.
16 Do any Christians have in their families women whose husbands are dead? If they do, they should help them. The church people should not have to care for them. Then the church can help the women who have no one to help them.
16 Se alguma mulher cristã tem viúvas na sua família, ela deve ajudá-las. Que ela não ponha essa carga sobre a igreja, para que a igreja possa cuidar das viúvas que não tenham ninguém que as ajude!
17 The leaders of the church people who rule well should be given greater honour and reward. At least do this for those who work hard in speaking and teaching.
17 Os presbíteros que fazem um bom trabalho na igreja merecem pagamento em dobro, especialmente os que se esforçam na pregação do evangelho e no ensino cristão.
18 The holy writings say, You may not tie the mouth of a cow when it is walking on the grain to beat it out. And also, The man who works should be paid for it.
18 Pois as Escrituras Sagradas dizem: “Não amarre a boca do boi quando ele estiver pisando o trigo.” E dizem ainda: “O trabalhador merece o seu salário.”
19 Do not listen to a complaint against a leader if what he has done has not been seen and proved by two or three people.
19 Não aceite nenhuma acusação contra qualquer presbítero, a não ser que ela seja feita por duas testemunhas, pelo menos.
20 Talk to those who live a wrong life and tell them to stop it. Talk to them in front of all the church members. Then the others will be afraid to do it.
20 Repreenda publicamente os presbíteros que cometem pecados, para que os outros fiquem com medo.
21 I say this before God and Christ Jesus and the chosen angels of God. Do these things in an honest way. Do not treat one person better than another person.
21 Na presença de Deus, de Cristo Jesus e dos santos anjos, eu peço e insisto no seguinte: em tudo o que você fizer, obedeça a estas instruções, sem preconceito contra ninguém e sem favorecer nenhuma pessoa.
22 Do not be in a hurry to place your hands on a man as a sign for him to be a leader. Do not take part in the wrong things another man does. Keep yourself clean.
22 Não tenha pressa de colocar as mãos sobre alguém para dedicá-lo ao serviço do Senhor. Não tome parte nos pecados dos outros. Conserve-se puro.
23 Do not drink water only. But drink a little wine to help your stomach because you are sick so often.
23 Já que muitas vezes você tem ficado doente do estômago, não beba somente água, mas beba também um pouco de vinho.
24 The wrong things some men do can be seen clearly and show that they should be punished. But wrong things other people do are not seen until later.
24 Os pecados de algumas pessoas podem ser vistos claramente, antes mesmo de elas serem julgadas. Mas os pecados de outras pessoas só são vistos depois.
25 So also, the good things are seen clearly. Even when they are not seen at first, they will be seen later.
25 Assim também as boas ações são vistas claramente e mesmo aquelas que são difíceis de ver não poderão ficar escondidas para sempre.
