1 The elder unto the well-beloved Caius, whom I truly love.
1 Eu, o presbítero, escrevo a Gaio, meu amigo querido, a quem amo na verdade.
2 Beloved, I wish above all things, that thou mayst prosper and be in health, as thy soul prospereth.
2 Amado, espero que você esteja bem e fisicamente tão sadio quanto é forte em espírito.
3 For I rejoiced greatly when the brethren came, and testified of the truth that is in thee, as thou walkest in the truth.
3 Alguns dos irmãos regressaram e me deixaram muito alegre quando falaram de sua fidelidade e de como você vive de acordo com a verdade.
4 I have no greater joy than this, to hear that my children walk in the truth.
4 Eu não poderia ter maior alegria que saber que meus filhos têm seguido a verdade.
5 Beloved, thou dost faithfully whatsoever thou dost to the brethren and to strangers,
5 Amado, você é fiel quando cuida dos irmãos que passam por aí, embora não os conheça.
6 Who have testified of thy love before the church; whom if thou send forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well.
6 Eles falaram à igreja daqui a respeito de sua amizade afetuosa. Peço que continue a suprir as necessidades deles de modo agradável a Deus.
7 For they went forth for his sake, taking nothing of the Gentiles.
7 Pois eles viajam a serviço do Senhor e não aceitam coisa alguma dos que são de fora.
8 We ought therefore to receive such, that we may be fellow-helpers to the truth.
8 Assim, nós mesmos devemos sustentá-los, a fim de nos tornarmos seus cooperadores quando eles ensinarem a verdade.
9 I wrote to the church; but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the pre-eminence among them, receiveth us not.
9 Escrevi à igreja sobre isso, mas Diótrefes, que gosta de ser o mais importante, se recusa a receber-nos.
10 Wherefore if I come I will remember his wicked deeds which he doth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.
10 Quando eu for, relatarei algumas das coisas que ele tem feito, bem como suas acusações maldosas contra nós. Ele não apenas se recusa a acolher os irmãos, mas também impede outros de ajudá-los. E, quando o fazem, ele os expulsa da igreja.
11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that is a doer of good is of God, but he that is a doer of evil, hath not seen God.
11 Amado, não deixe que esse mau exemplo o influencie, mas siga apenas o que é bom. Quem faz o bem prova que é filho de Deus; quem faz o mal prova que não conhece a Deus.
12 Demetrius hath a good testimony from all men, and from the truth itself: yea, we also bear testimony, and ye know that our testimony is true.
12 Todos, incluindo a própria verdade, falam bem de Demétrio. Nós dizemos o mesmo a respeito dele, e você sabe que falamos a verdade.
13 I had many things to write; but I will not write to thee with ink and pen.
13 Tenho muito mais a lhe dizer, mas não quero fazê-lo com pena e tinta,
14 But I trust to see thee shortly, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Salute the friends by name.
14 pois espero vê-lo em breve, e então conversaremos pessoalmente.
