1 Thou therefore, my son, be strong through the grace which is by Jesus Christ.
1 Tu, portanto, meu filho, sê forte na graça que há em Cristo Jesus.
2 And the things which thou hast heard from me before many witnesses, these commit to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.
2 E as coisas que ouviste de mim entre muitas testemunhas, as mesmas confia a homens fiéis, que sejam capazes de também ensinarem os outros.
3 Thou therefore endure affliction, is a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
3 Tu, portanto, suporta o sofrimento, como um bom soldado de Jesus Cristo.
4 No man that warreth intangleth himself in the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath inlisted him.
4 Ninguém que milita se embaraça com os negócios desta vida, a fim de agradar àquele que o escolheu para ser soldado.
5 And if a man strive, he is not crowned, unless he strive lawfully.
5 E, se um homem também luta pela vitória, não é coroado se não lutar legalmente.
6 The husbandman, that laboureth first, must be partaker of the fruits.
6 O lavrador que trabalha deve ser o primeiro a participar dos frutos.
7 Consider what I say, and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.
7 Considere o que eu digo, e o Senhor te dê entendimento em todas as coisas.
8 Remember Jesus Christ of the seed of David, raised from the dead according to my gospel; For which I endure affliction even unto bonds,
8 Lembra-te de que Jesus Cristo, que é da semente de Davi, foi ressuscitado dos mortos, segundo o meu evangelho;
9 as an evil-doer, but the word of God is not bound.
9 pelo que sofro dificuldades como um malfeitor, e até prisões; mas a palavra de Deus não está presa.
10 Therefore I suffer all things for the elect's sake, that they also may obtain the salvation which is through Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.
10 Portanto, sofro todas as coisas por causa dos eleitos, para que também eles obtenham a salvação que está em Cristo Jesus com glória eterna.
11 It is a faithful saying: if we are dead with him, we shall also live with him:
11 Esta é uma palavra fiel: Que, se morrermos com ele, também viveremos com ele;
12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him:
12 se sofrermos, também reinaremos com ele; se o negarmos, ele também nos negará;
13 if we deny him, he will also deny us: If we believe not, he remaineth faithful; he cannot deny himself.
13 se não crermos, ainda assim ele permanece fiel; não pode negar-se a si mesmo.
14 Remind them of these things, charging them before the Lord, not to strive about words, to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.
14 Traze estas coisas à memória, ordenando-lhes diante do Senhor que não contendam sobre palavras, que para nada aproveitam senão para a perversão dos ouvintes.
15 Be diligent to present thyself unto God approved a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
15 Estude para apresentar-te aprovado a Deus, como obreiro que não tem de que se envergonhar, dividindo corretamente a palavra da verdade.
16 But avoid profane empty babblings; for they will increase to more ungodliness.
16 Mas foge dos falatórios profanos e vãos, porque eles produzirão maior impiedade.
17 And their word will eat as a gangrene; of whom are Hymeneus and Philetus,
17 E a palavra desses comerá como faz a gangrena; entre os quais estão Himeneu e Fileto;
18 Who have erred from the faith, saying, The resurrection is already past, and overthrow the faith of some.
18 os quais se desviaram da verdade, dizendo que a ressurreição já passou, e destruíram a fé de alguns.
19 But the foundation of God standeth fast, having this seal, The Lord knoweth those that are his: and, Let every one who nameth the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.
19 Todavia, o fundamento de Deus fica firme, tendo este selo: O Senhor conhece os que são seus, e qualquer que profere o nome de Cristo aparte-se da iniquidade.
20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and of stone; and some to honour, some to dishonour.
20 Ora, numa grande casa não há somente vasos de ouro e de prata, mas também de madeira e de barro; alguns para honra e outros para desonra.
21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, consecrated and fit for the master's use, prepared for every good work.
21 Portanto, se um homem se purificar destas coisas, será vaso para honra, santificado e idôneo para uso do Mestre, e preparado para toda boa obra.
22 Flee also youthful desires; but follow after righteousness, faith, love, peace with them that call upon the Lord, out of a pure heart.
22 Foge também dos desejos da juventude; e segue a justiça, a fé, a caridade e a paz com os que invocam o Senhor com um coração puro.
23 But avoid foolish and unlearned questions, knowing that they beget strife:
23 E evita as questões tolas e sem instrução, sabendo que produzem contendas.
24 And a servant of the Lord must not strive, but be gentle toward all men,
24 E ao servo do Senhor não convém contender, mas ser manso para com todos os homens, apto para ensinar, paciente;
25 apt to teach, patient of evil, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if haply God may give them repentance, to the acknowledging of the truth;
25 instruindo com mansidão os que se opõem, a ver se, porventura, Deus lhes dará arrependimento para conhecerem a verdade,
26 And they may awake out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
26 e voltem a si, livres dos laços do diabo, que os mantém cativos e submetidos à sua vontade.
