¹ Now when Jesus had finished these sayings, he went away from Galilee and entered the region of Judea beyond the Jordan.

¹ Quando Jesus acabou de proferir estas palavras, deixou a Galileia e foi para o território da Judeia, além do Jordão.

² And large crowds followed him, and he healed them there.

² Grandes multidões o seguiram, e ele as curou ali.

³ Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, »Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?«

³ Alguns fariseus se aproximaram de Jesus e, testando-o, perguntaram: — É lícito ao homem repudiar a sua mulher por qualquer motivo?

⁴ And he answered them, »Have you not read that he who made them at the beginning made them male and female,

⁴ Jesus respondeu:

⁵ and said, For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh?

⁵ e que disse: “Por isso o homem deixará o seu pai e a sua mãe e se unirá à sua mulher, tornando-se os dois uma só carne”?

⁶ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.«

⁶ De modo que já não são mais dois, porém uma só carne. Portanto, que ninguém separe o que Deus ajuntou.

⁷ They said to him, »Why then did Moses command one to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?«

⁷ Os fariseus perguntaram: — Então por que Moisés ordenou dar uma carta de divórcio e repudiar a mulher?

⁸ He said to them, »Because of the hardness of your hearts Moses permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.

⁸ Jesus respondeu:

⁹ And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.«

⁹ Eu, porém, lhes digo: quem repudiar a sua mulher, não sendo por causa de relações sexuais ilícitas, e casar com outra comete adultério.

¹⁰ The disciples said to him, »If such is the case of a man with his wife, it is better not to marry.«

¹⁰ Os discípulos de Jesus disseram: — Se essa é a situação do homem em relação à sua mulher, não convém casar.

¹¹ But he said to them, »Not all men can accept this saying, but only those to whom it has been given.

¹¹ Jesus, porém, lhes respondeu:

¹² For there are eunuchs who were born that way from their mothers womb, and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to accept it, let him accept it.«

¹² Porque há eunucos de nascença; há outros a quem os homens fizeram tais; e há outros que se fizeram eunucos, por causa do Reino dos Céus. Quem é apto para aceitar isto, que aceite.

¹³ Then little children were brought to him that he might put his hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them.

¹³ Então trouxeram algumas crianças a Jesus para que ele lhes impusesse as mãos e orasse, mas os discípulos os repreendiam.

¹⁴ But Jesus said, »Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.«

¹⁴ Jesus, porém, disse:

¹⁵ And he laid his hands on them and went from there.

¹⁵ E, tendo-lhes imposto as mãos, retirou-se dali.

¹⁶ Now behold, one came up and said to him, »Teacher, what good thing must I do to have eternal life?«

¹⁶ E eis que alguém, aproximando-se de Jesus, lhe perguntou: — Mestre, que farei de bom para alcançar a vida eterna?

¹⁷ And he said to him, »Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.«

¹⁷ Jesus respondeu:

¹⁸ He said to him, »Which ones?« And Jesus said, »You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness,

¹⁸ E ele lhe perguntou: — Quais? Jesus respondeu:

¹⁹ honor your father and mother, and, you shall love your neighbor as yourself.«

¹⁹ honre o seu pai e a sua mãe e ame o seu próximo como você ama a si mesmo.”

²⁰ The young man said to him, »All these I have kept. What do I still lack?«

²⁰ O jovem disse: — Tudo isso tenho observado. O que me falta ainda?

²¹ Jesus said to him, »If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.«

²¹ Jesus respondeu:

²² But when the young man heard this, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

²² Mas o jovem, ouvindo esta palavra, retirou-se triste, porque era dono de muitas propriedades.

²³ Then Jesus said to his disciples, »Truly I say to you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.

²³ Então Jesus disse aos seus discípulos:

²⁴ Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.«

²⁴ E ainda lhes digo que é mais fácil um camelo passar pelo fundo de uma agulha do que um rico entrar no Reino de Deus.

²⁵ When the disciples heard this they were greatly astonished, saying, »Who then can be saved?«

²⁵ Ouvindo isto, os discípulos ficaram muito admirados e perguntaram: — Sendo assim, quem pode ser salvo?

²⁶ But Jesus looked at them and said to them, »With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.«

²⁶ Jesus, olhando para eles, disse:

²⁷ Then Peter answered him, »Behold, we have left everything and followed you. What then shall we have?«

²⁷ Então Pedro, tomando a palavra, disse: — Eis que nós deixamos tudo e seguimos o senhor; que será, pois, de nós?

²⁸ Jesus said to them, »Truly I say to you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

²⁸ Jesus lhes respondeu:

²⁹ And every one who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my names sake, will receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life.

²⁹ E todo aquele que tiver deixado casas, irmãos, irmãs, pai, mãe, filhos ou campos, por causa do meu nome, receberá muitas vezes mais e herdará a vida eterna.

³⁰ But many who are first will be last, and the last first.

³⁰ Porém muitos primeiros serão últimos; e os últimos serão primeiros.
