Josué 23

1 And it came to pass a long time after that יהוה had given rest unto Israel from all their enemies round about, that Joshua waxed old [and] stricken in age. {stricken...: Heb. come into days}
1 O Senhor Deus deixou que o povo de Israel vivesse em paz com os inimigos ao seu redor. Passou muito tempo, e Josué ficou bem velho.
2 And Joshua called for all Israel, [and] for their elders, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers, and said unto them, I am old [and] stricken in age:
2 Ele chamou todo o povo de Israel, os conselheiros, os líderes, os juízes e os oficiais e disse: — Eu já estou velho.
3 And ye have seen all that יהוה your Elohim hath done unto all these nations because of you; for יהוה your Elohim [is] he that hath fought for you.
3 Vocês viram tudo o que o Senhor , nosso Deus, fez com todas essas nações por causa de vocês. O Senhor tem lutado a favor de vocês.
4 Behold, I have divided unto you by lot these nations that remain, to be an inheritance for your tribes, from Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, even unto the great sea westward. {westward: Heb. at the sunset}
4 Escutem! Eu distribuí entre as tribos , para serem propriedade delas, as terras das nações que ainda não foram conquistadas. Assim também distribuí as terras das nações que já foram vencidas, desde o rio Jordão, a leste, até o mar Mediterrâneo, a oeste.
5 And יהוה your Elohim, he shall expel them from before you, and drive them from out of your sight; and ye shall possess their land, as יהוה your Elohim hath promised unto you.
5 O Senhor , nosso Deus, fará com que essas nações fujam de vocês e as expulsará para longe. Vocês tomarão posse das terras dessas nações, como o Senhor , nosso Deus, prometeu.
6 Be ye therefore very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, that ye turn not aside therefrom [to] the right hand or [to] the left;
6 Por isso se esforcem para obedecer fielmente a tudo o que está escrito no Livro da Lei de Moisés. Não desprezem nenhuma parte desta Lei
7 That ye come not among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their elohim, nor cause to swear [by them], neither serve them, nor bow yourselves unto them:
7 para que assim não se misturem com esses povos que ainda vivem entre vocês. Também não falem os nomes dos seus deuses, nem jurem por eles; não os adorem, nem se curvem diante deles.
8 But cleave unto יהוה your Elohim, as ye have done unto this day. {But cleave...: or, For if ye will cleave, etc}
8 Fiquem ligados a Deus, o Senhor , como vocês têm ficado até agora.
9 For יהוה hath driven out from before you great nations and strong: but [as for] you, no man hath been able to stand before you unto this day. {For יהוה...: or, Then יהוה will drive}
9 O Senhor expulsou povos grandes e fortes para longe, e até agora ninguém conseguiu resistir a vocês.
10 One man of you shall chase a thousand: for יהוה your Elohim, he [it is] that fighteth for you, as he hath promised you.
10 Um só israelita pode fazer fugirem mil inimigos porque o Senhor , nosso Deus, está lutando por vocês, como prometeu.
11 Take good heed therefore unto yourselves, that ye love יהוה your Elohim. {yourselves: Heb. your souls}
11 Por isso amem somente o Senhor , nosso Deus.
12 Else if ye do in any wise go back, and cleave unto the remnant of these nations, [even] these that remain among you, and shall make marriages with them, and go in unto them, and they to you:
12 Mas, se vocês não forem fiéis a ele, e fizerem amizade com os povos que ainda estão aí, e casarem com essa gente,
13 Know for a certainty that יהוה your Elohim will no more drive out [any of] these nations from before you; but they shall be snares and traps unto you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until ye perish from off this good land which יהוה your Elohim hath given you.
13 podem ficar certos de que ele não expulsará mais esses povos do meio de vocês. Pelo contrário, eles se tornarão perigosos para vocês, como se fossem precipícios, armadilhas, chicotes nas costas ou espinhos nos olhos. E isso continuará até que vocês desapareçam desta boa terra que o Senhor , nosso Deus, lhes deu.
14 And, behold, this day I [am] going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which יהוה your Elohim spake concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, [and] not one thing hath failed thereof.
14 — Agora o dia da minha morte está perto. Todos vocês sabem, no seu coração e no seu íntimo, que o Senhor , nosso Deus, lhes deu todas as coisas boas que havia prometido. Ele cumpriu tudo; não falhou em nada. Sim, o Senhor , nosso Deus, fez com que acontecessem todas as coisas boas que lhes tinha prometido. Mas, se vocês adorarem outros deuses e se curvarem diante deles, então ele ficará irado e castigará vocês. Porque, se vocês fizerem isso, quebrarão a aliança que o Senhor Deus mandou que cumprissem. E logo não ficará nenhum de vocês nesta boa terra que ele lhes deu.
15 Therefore it shall come to pass, [that] as all good things are come upon you, which יהוה your Elohim promised you; so shall יהוה bring upon you all evil things, until he have destroyed you from off this good land which יהוה your Elohim hath given you.

16 When ye have transgressed the covenant of יהוה your Elohim, which he commanded you, and have gone and served other elohim, and bowed yourselves to them; then shall the anger of יהוה be kindled against you, and ye shall perish quickly from off the good land which he hath given unto you.
