1 One day the Pharisees and some of the teachers of the law who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus.
1 Certo dia, alguns fariseus e mestres da lei chegaram de Jerusalém para ver Jesus.
2 They had noticed that some of his disciples ate their food with their hands ‘defiled,’ by which they meant unwashed.
2 Observaram que alguns de seus discípulos comiam sua refeição com as mãos impuras, ou seja, sem lavá-las.
3 (For the Pharisees, and indeed all strict Jews, will not eat without first scrupulously washing their hands, holding in this to the traditions of their ancestors.
3 (Pois todos os judeus, sobretudo os fariseus, não comem sem antes lavar cuidadosamente as mãos, como exige a tradição dos líderes religiosos.
4 When they come from market, they will not eat without first sprinkling themselves; and there are many other customs which they have inherited and hold to, such as the ceremonial washing of cups, and jugs, and copper pans).
4 Quando chegam do mercado, não comem coisa alguma sem antes mergulhar as mãos em água. Essa é apenas uma das muitas tradições às quais se apegam, como a lavagem de copos, jarras e panelas. )
5 So the Pharisees and the teachers of the law asked Jesus this question — “How is it that your disciples do not follow the traditions of our ancestors, but eat their food with defiled hands?”
5 Então os fariseus e mestres da lei lhe perguntaram: “Por que seus discípulos não seguem a tradição dos líderes religiosos? Eles comem sem antes realizar a cerimônia de lavar as mãos!”.
6 His answer was: “It was well said by Isaiah when he prophesied about you hypocrites in the words — ‘This is a people who honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far removed from me;
6 Jesus respondeu: “Hipócritas! Isaías tinha razão quando profetizou a seu respeito, pois escreveu: ‘Este povo me honra com os lábios, mas o coração está longe de mim.
7 but vainly do they worship me, For they teach but human precepts.’
7 Sua adoração é uma farsa, pois ensinam doutrinas humanas como se fossem mandamentos de Deus’.
8 You neglect God’s commandments and hold to human traditions.
8 Vocês desprezam a lei de Deus e a substituem por sua própria tradição”.
9 Wisely do you set aside God’s commandments,”he exclaimed, “to keep your own traditions!
9 Disse ainda: “Vocês se esquivam com habilidade da lei de Deus para se apegar à sua própria tradição.
10 For while Moses said ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and ‘Let anyone who abuses their father or mother suffer death,’
10 Por exemplo, Moisés deu esta lei: ‘Honre seu pai e sua mãe’ e ‘Quem insultar seu pai ou sua mãe será executado’.
11 you say ‘If a person says to their father or mother “Whatever of mine might have been of service to you is Korban”’(which means ‘Given to God’) —
11 Vocês, porém, ensinam que alguém pode dizer a seus pais: ‘Não posso ajudá-los. Jurei entregar como oferta a Deus aquilo que eu teria dado a vocês’.
12 why, then you do not allow them to do anything further for their father or mother!
12 Com isso, desobrigam as pessoas de cuidarem dos pais,
13 In this way you nullify the words of God by your traditions, which you hand down; and you do many similar things.”
13 anulando a palavra de Deus a fim de transmitir sua própria tradição. E esse é apenas um exemplo entre muitos outros”.
14 Then Jesus called the people to him again, and said: “Listen to me, all of you, and mark my words.
14 Jesus chamou a multidão para perto de si e disse: “Ouçam, todos vocês, e procurem entender.
15 There is nothing external to a person, which by going into them can ‘defile’ them; but the things that come out of a person are the things that defile them.”
15 Não é o que entra no corpo que os contamina; vocês se contaminam com o que sai do coração.

16 Quem tem ouvidos para ouvir, ouça com atenção!”.
17 When Jesus went indoors, away from the crowd, his disciples began questioning him about this saying.
17 Então Jesus entrou numa casa para se afastar da multidão, e seus discípulos lhe perguntaram o que ele queria dizer com a parábola que havia acabado de contar.
18 “What, do even you understand so little?”exclaimed Jesus. “Do not you see that there is nothing external to a person, which by going into a person, can ‘defile’ them,
18 “Vocês também ainda não entendem?”, perguntou. “Não percebem que a comida que entra no corpo não pode contaminá-los?
19 because it does not pass into his heart, but into his stomach, and is afterwards got rid of? — in saying this Jesus pronounced all food ‘clean.’
19 O alimento não vai para o coração, mas apenas passa pelo estômago e vai parar no esgoto.” (Ao dizer isso, declarou que todo tipo de comida é aceitável.)
20 “It is what comes out from a person,”he added, “that defiles them,
20 Em seguida, acrescentou: “Aquilo que vem de dentro é que os contamina.
21 for it is from within, out of the hearts of people, that there come evil thoughts — sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery,
21 Pois, de dentro, do coração da pessoa, vêm maus pensamentos, imoralidade sexual, roubo, homicídio,
22 greed, wickedness, deceit, indecency, envy, slander, haughtiness, folly;
22 adultério, cobiça, perversidade, engano, paixões carnais, inveja, calúnias, orgulho e insensatez.
23 all these wicked things come from within, and do defile a person.”
23 Todas essas coisas desprezíveis vêm de dentro; são elas que os contaminam”.
24 On leaving that place, Jesus went to the district of Tyre and Sidon. He went into a house, and did not wish anyone to know it, but could not escape notice.
24 Então Jesus deixou a Galileia e se dirigiu para o norte, para a região de Tiro. Não queria que ninguém soubesse onde ele estava hospedado, mas não foi possível manter segredo.
25 For a woman, whose little daughter had a foul spirit in her, heard of him immediately, and came and threw herself at his feet —
25 De imediato, uma mulher que tinha ouvido falar dele veio e caiu a seus pés. A filha dela estava possuída por um espírito impuro,
26 the woman was a foreigner, from Syrian Phoenicia — and she begged him to drive the demon out of her daughter.
26 e ela implorou que ele expulsasse o demônio que estava na menina. Sendo ela grega, nascida na região da Fenícia, na Síria,
27 “Let the children be satisfied first,”answered Jesus. “For it is not fair to take the children’s food, and throw it to dogs.”
27 Jesus lhe disse: “Primeiro devem-se alimentar os filhos. Não é certo tirar comida das crianças e jogá-la aos cachorros”.
28 “Yes, Master,” she replied; “even the dogs under the table do feed on the children’s crumbs.”
28 “Senhor, é verdade”, disse a mulher. “No entanto, até os cachorros, debaixo da mesa, comem as migalhas dos pratos dos filhos.”
29 “For saying that,”he answered, “you may go. The demon has gone out of your daughter.”
29 “Boa resposta!”, disse Jesus. “Vá para casa, pois o demônio já deixou sua filha.”
30 The woman went home, and found the child lying on her bed, and the demon gone.
30 E, quando ela chegou à sua casa, sua filha estava deitada na cama, e o demônio a havia deixado.
31 On returning from the district of Tyre, Jesus went, by way of Sidon, to the Sea of Galilee, across the district of the Ten Towns.
31 Jesus saiu de Tiro e subiu para Sidom antes de voltar ao mar da Galileia e à região das Dez Cidades.
32 Some people brought to him a man who was deaf and almost dumb, and they begged Jesus to place his hand on him.
32 Algumas pessoas lhe trouxeram um homem surdo e com dificuldade de fala, e lhe pediram que pusesse as mãos sobre ele e o curasse.
33 Jesus took him aside from the crowd quietly, put his fingers into the man’s ears, and touched his tongue with saliva.
33 Jesus o afastou da multidão para ficar a sós com ele. Pôs os dedos nos ouvidos do homem e, em seguida, cuspiu nos dedos e tocou a língua dele.
34 Then, looking up to heaven, he sighed, and said to the man: “Ephphatha!”which means ‘Be opened.’
34 Olhando para o céu, suspirou e disse: “ Efatá! ”, que significa “Abra-se!”.
35 The man’s ears were opened, the string of his tongue was freed, and he began to talk plainly.
35 No mesmo instante, o homem passou a ouvir perfeitamente; sua língua ficou livre, e ele começou a falar com clareza.
36 Jesus insisted on their not telling anyone; but the more he insisted, the more perseveringly they made it known,
36 Jesus ordenou à multidão que não contasse a ninguém, mas, quanto mais ele os proibia, mais divulgavam o que havia acontecido.
37 and a profound impression was made on the people. “He has done everything well!” they exclaimed. “He makes even the deaf hear and the dumb speak!”
37 Estavam muito admirados e diziam repetidamente: “Tudo que ele faz é maravilhoso! Ele até faz o surdo ouvir e o mudo falar!”.
