1 One day the Pharisees and some of the teachers of the law who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus.
1 Alguns fariseus e alguns mestres da Lei que tinham vindo de Jerusalém reuniram-se em volta de Jesus.
2 They had noticed that some of his disciples ate their food with their hands ‘defiled,’ by which they meant unwashed.
2 Eles viram que alguns dos discípulos dele estavam comendo com mãos impuras , quer dizer, não tinham lavado as mãos como os fariseus mandavam o povo fazer.
3 (For the Pharisees, and indeed all strict Jews, will not eat without first scrupulously washing their hands, holding in this to the traditions of their ancestors.
3 (Os judeus, e especialmente os fariseus, seguem os ensinamentos que receberam dos antigos: eles só comem depois de lavar as mãos com bastante cuidado.
4 When they come from market, they will not eat without first sprinkling themselves; and there are many other customs which they have inherited and hold to, such as the ceremonial washing of cups, and jugs, and copper pans).
4 E, antes de comer, lavam tudo o que vem do mercado. Seguem ainda muitos outros costumes, como a maneira certa de lavar copos, jarros, vasilhas de metal e camas.)
5 So the Pharisees and the teachers of the law asked Jesus this question — “How is it that your disciples do not follow the traditions of our ancestors, but eat their food with defiled hands?”
5 Os fariseus e os mestres da Lei perguntaram a Jesus: — Por que é que os seus discípulos não obedecem aos ensinamentos dos antigos e comem sem lavar as mãos?
6 His answer was: “It was well said by Isaiah when he prophesied about you hypocrites in the words — ‘This is a people who honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far removed from me;
6 Jesus respondeu:
7 but vainly do they worship me, For they teach but human precepts.’
7 A adoração deste povo é inútil,
8 You neglect God’s commandments and hold to human traditions.
8 E continuou:
9 Wisely do you set aside God’s commandments,”he exclaimed, “to keep your own traditions!
9 E Jesus terminou, dizendo:
10 For while Moses said ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and ‘Let anyone who abuses their father or mother suffer death,’
10 Pois Moisés ordenou: “Respeite o seu pai e a sua mãe.” E disse também: “Que seja morto aquele que amaldiçoar o seu pai ou a sua mãe!”
11 you say ‘If a person says to their father or mother “Whatever of mine might have been of service to you is Korban”’(which means ‘Given to God’) —
11 Mas vocês ensinam que, se alguém tem alguma coisa que poderia usar para ajudar os seus pais, mas diz: “Eu dediquei isto a Deus”,
12 why, then you do not allow them to do anything further for their father or mother!
12 então ele não precisa ajudar os seus pais.
13 In this way you nullify the words of God by your traditions, which you hand down; and you do many similar things.”
13 Assim vocês desprezam a palavra de Deus, trocando-a por ensinamentos que passam de pais para filhos. E vocês fazem muitas outras coisas como esta.
14 Then Jesus called the people to him again, and said: “Listen to me, all of you, and mark my words.
14 Jesus chamou outra vez a multidão e disse:
15 There is nothing external to a person, which by going into them can ‘defile’ them; but the things that come out of a person are the things that defile them.”
15 Tudo o que vem de fora e entra numa pessoa não faz com que ela fique

16 [Se vocês têm ouvidos para ouvir, então ouçam.]
17 When Jesus went indoors, away from the crowd, his disciples began questioning him about this saying.
17 Quando Jesus se afastou da multidão e entrou em casa, os seus discípulos lhe perguntaram o que queria dizer essa comparação.
18 “What, do even you understand so little?”exclaimed Jesus. “Do not you see that there is nothing external to a person, which by going into a person, can ‘defile’ them,
18 Então ele disse:
19 because it does not pass into his heart, but into his stomach, and is afterwards got rid of? — in saying this Jesus pronounced all food ‘clean.’
19 porque não vai para o coração, mas para o estômago, e depois sai do corpo. Com isso Jesus quis dizer que todos os tipos de alimento podem ser comidos.
20 “It is what comes out from a person,”he added, “that defiles them,
20 Ele continuou:
21 for it is from within, out of the hearts of people, that there come evil thoughts — sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery,
21 Porque é de dentro, do coração, que vêm os maus pensamentos, a imoralidade sexual, os roubos, os crimes de morte,
22 greed, wickedness, deceit, indecency, envy, slander, haughtiness, folly;
22 os adultérios, a avareza, as maldades, as mentiras, as imoralidades, a inveja, a calúnia, o orgulho e o falar e agir sem pensar nas consequências.
23 all these wicked things come from within, and do defile a person.”
23 Tudo isso vem de dentro e faz com que as pessoas fiquem impuras.
24 On leaving that place, Jesus went to the district of Tyre and Sidon. He went into a house, and did not wish anyone to know it, but could not escape notice.
24 Jesus saiu dali e foi para a região que fica perto da cidade de Tiro. Ele entrou numa casa e não queria que soubessem que estava ali, mas não pôde se esconder.
25 For a woman, whose little daughter had a foul spirit in her, heard of him immediately, and came and threw herself at his feet —
25 Certa mulher, que tinha uma filha que estava dominada por um espírito mau, ouviu falar a respeito de Jesus. Ela veio e se ajoelhou aos pés dele.
26 the woman was a foreigner, from Syrian Phoenicia — and she begged him to drive the demon out of her daughter.
26 Era estrangeira, de nacionalidade siro-fenícia, e pediu que Jesus expulsasse da sua filha o demônio.
27 “Let the children be satisfied first,”answered Jesus. “For it is not fair to take the children’s food, and throw it to dogs.”
27 Mas Jesus lhe disse:
28 “Yes, Master,” she replied; “even the dogs under the table do feed on the children’s crumbs.”
28 — Mas, senhor, — respondeu a mulher — até mesmo os cachorrinhos que ficam debaixo da mesa comem as migalhas de pão que as crianças deixam cair.
29 “For saying that,”he answered, “you may go. The demon has gone out of your daughter.”
29 Jesus disse:
30 The woman went home, and found the child lying on her bed, and the demon gone.
30 Quando a mulher voltou para casa, encontrou a criança deitada na cama; de fato, o demônio tinha saído dela.
31 On returning from the district of Tyre, Jesus went, by way of Sidon, to the Sea of Galilee, across the district of the Ten Towns.
31 Jesus saiu da região que fica perto da cidade de Tiro, passou por Sidom e pela região das Dez Cidades e chegou ao lago da Galileia.
32 Some people brought to him a man who was deaf and almost dumb, and they begged Jesus to place his hand on him.
32 Algumas pessoas trouxeram um homem que era surdo e quase não podia falar e pediram a Jesus que pusesse a mão sobre ele.
33 Jesus took him aside from the crowd quietly, put his fingers into the man’s ears, and touched his tongue with saliva.
33 Jesus o tirou do meio da multidão e pôs os dedos nos ouvidos dele. Em seguida cuspiu e colocou um pouco da saliva na língua do homem.
34 Then, looking up to heaven, he sighed, and said to the man: “Ephphatha!”which means ‘Be opened.’
34 Depois olhou para o céu, deu um suspiro profundo e disse ao homem:
35 The man’s ears were opened, the string of his tongue was freed, and he began to talk plainly.
35 E naquele momento os ouvidos do homem se abriram, a sua língua se soltou, e ele começou a falar sem dificuldade.
36 Jesus insisted on their not telling anyone; but the more he insisted, the more perseveringly they made it known,
36 Jesus ordenou a todos que não contassem para ninguém o que tinha acontecido; porém, quanto mais ele ordenava, mais eles falavam do que havia acontecido.
37 and a profound impression was made on the people. “He has done everything well!” they exclaimed. “He makes even the deaf hear and the dumb speak!”
37 E todas as pessoas que o ouviam ficavam muito admiradas e diziam: — Tudo o que faz ele faz bem; ele até mesmo faz com que os surdos ouçam e os mudos falem!
