1 After that, Pilate had Jesus scourged.
1 Então, pois, Pilatos tomou a Jesus, e o açoitou.
2 The soldiers made a crown with some thorns and put it on his head and threw a purple robe around him.
2 E os soldados, entrelaçando uma coroa de espinhos, puseram-lha sobre a sua cabeça, e eles colocaram-lhe um manto de púrpura.
3 They kept coming up to him and saying: “Long live the king of the Jews!” and they gave him blow after blow with their hands.
3 E diziam: Salve, Rei dos Judeus! E eles golpearam-lhe com as suas mãos.
4 Pilate again came outside, and said to the people: “Look! I am bringing him out to you, so that you may know that I find nothing with which he can be charged.”
4 Então, Pilatos saiu outra vez, e disse-lhes: Eis que vo-lo trago para vocês, para que saibais que não acho nele nenhuma culpa.
5 Then Jesus came outside, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe; and Pilate said to them: “Here is the man!”
5 Saiu então Jesus, vestido com o manto de púrpura e a coroa de espinhos. E disse-lhes Pilatos: Eis o homem!
6 When the chief priests and the police officers saw him, they shouted: “Crucify him! Crucify him!” “Take him yourselves and crucify him,” said Pilate. “For my part, I find nothing with which he can be charged.”
6 Quando os principais sacerdotes e os oficiais o viram, gritaram, dizendo: Crucifica-o, crucifica-o. Disse-lhes Pilatos: Tomai-o vós, e crucificai-o, porque nenhuma culpa eu acho nele.
7 “But we,” replied the crowd, “have a law, under which he deserves death for making himself out to be the Son of God.”
7 Responderam-lhe os judeus: Nós temos uma lei, e, segundo a nossa lei, ele deve morrer, porque ele se fez Filho de Deus.
8 When Pilate heard what they said, he became still more alarmed;
8 E Pilatos, quando ouviu essa palavra, ele ficou mais atemorizado;
9 and, going into the Government house again, he said to Jesus: “Where do you come from?”
9 e entrou outra vez na sala de julgamento, e disse a Jesus: De onde és tu? Mas Jesus não lhe deu resposta.
10 But Jesus made no reply. So Pilate said to him: “Do you refuse to speak to me? Do not you know that I have power to release you, and have power to crucify you?”
10 Disse-lhe, então, Pilatos: Tu não falas comigo? Não sabes tu que tenho poder para te crucificar, e tenho poder para te soltar?
11 “You would have no power over me at all,”answered Jesus, “if it had not been given you from above; and, therefore, the man who betrayed me to you is guilty of the greater sin.”
11 Jesus respondeu: Tu não poderias ter poder contra mim, se de cima não te fora dado; por isso aquele que me entregou a ti, maior pecado tem.
12 This made Pilate anxious to release him; but the crowd shouted: “If you release that man, you are no friend of the Emperor! Anyone who makes himself out to be a king is setting himself against the Emperor!”
12 Daí em diante Pilatos procurava soltá-lo; mas os judeus gritavam, dizendo: Se tu deixares este homem ir, não és amigo de César; todo aquele que se faz rei fala contra César!
13 On hearing what they said, Pilate brought Jesus out, and took his seat on the Bench at a place called ‘The Stone Pavement’ — in Hebrew ‘Gabbatha.’
13 Ouvindo, então, Pilatos esse dito, ele trouxe Jesus para fora e sentou-se no assento de julgamento, no lugar que é chamado Pavimento, mas, em hebraico, Gábata.
14 It was the Passover Preparation day, and about noon. Then he said to the crowd: “Here is your king!”
14 E era a preparação da páscoa, e cerca da hora sexta; e ele disse aos judeus: Eis o vosso Rei!
15 At that the people shouted: “Kill him! Kill him! Crucify him!” “What! Should I crucify your king?” exclaimed Pilate. “We have no king but the Emperor,” replied the chief priests;
15 Mas eles gritavam: Fora com ele, fora com ele, crucifica-o. Disse-lhes Pilatos: Eu devo crucificar o vosso Rei? Responderam os principais sacerdotes: Nós não temos rei, senão César.
16 so Pilate gave Jesus up to them to be crucified.
16 Então, entregou-lho para que fosse crucificado. E eles tomaram a Jesus, e o levaram.
17 and he went out, carrying his cross himself, to the place which is named from a scull, or, in Hebrew, Golgotha.
17 E, carregando ele a sua cruz, saiu para um lugar chamado o lugar de uma caveira, que é chamado em hebraico Gólgota;
18 There they crucified him, and two others with him — one on each side, and Jesus between them.
18 onde o crucificaram, e com ele outros dois, um de cada lado, e Jesus no meio.
19 Pilate also had these words written and put up over the cross — ‘JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.’
19 E Pilatos escreveu um título, e pô-lo em cima da cruz. E nele estava escrito: JESUS DE NAZARÉ, O REI DOS JUDEUS.
20 These words were read by many people, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and they were written in Hebrew, Latin and Greek.
20 Muitos dos judeus leram este título, porque o lugar onde Jesus foi crucificado era próximo da cidade; e estava escrito em hebraico, e grego, e latim.
21 The chief priests said to Pilate: “Do not write ‘The king of the Jews’, but write what the man said — ‘I am the king of the Jews.’”
21 Então, diziam os principais sacerdotes dos judeus a Pilatos: Não escrevas: O Rei dos Judeus, mas que ele disse: Eu sou Rei dos Judeus.
22 But Pilate answered: “What I have written, I have written.”
22 Respondeu Pilatos: O que eu escrevi, eu escrevi.
23 When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his clothes and divided them into four shares — a share for each soldier — and they took the coat also. The coat had no seam, being woven in one piece from top to bottom.
23 Então os soldados, tendo crucificado a Jesus, tomaram as suas vestes, e fizeram quatro partes, para cada soldado uma parte, e também sua túnica; mas a túnica era sem costura, toda tecida de alto a baixo.
24 So they said to one another: “Do not let us tear it, but let us cast lots for it, to see who will have it.” This was in fulfillment of the words of scripture — ‘They shared my clothes among them, And over my clothing they cast lots.’ That was what the soldiers did.
24 Portanto, eles disseram entre si: Não a rasguemos, mas lancemos a sorte sobre ela, para ver de quem será; para que possa se cumprir a escritura, que diz: Eles repartiram entre si as minhas vestes, e sobre a minha túnica lançaram a sorte. Os soldados, pois, fizeram essas coisas.
25 Meanwhile near the cross of Jesus were standing his mother and his mother’s sister, as well as Mary the wife of Clopas and Mary of Magdala.
25 E, junto à cruz de Jesus, estavam em pé sua mãe, e a irmã de sua mãe, Maria, mulher de Cléofas, e Maria Madalena.
26 When Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved, standing near, he said to his mother: “There is your son.”
26 Ora, Jesus, vendo ali sua mãe, e ao lado dela o discípulo a quem ele amava, ele disse à sua mãe: Mulher, eis o teu filho!
27 Then he said to that disciple: “There is your mother.”And from that very hour the disciple took her to live in his house.
27 Então ele disse ao discípulo: Eis a tua mãe! E desde aquela hora o discípulo a recebeu em sua própria casa.
28 Afterwards, knowing that everything was now finished, Jesus said, in fulfillment of the words of scripture: “I am thirsty.”
28 Depois disso, sabendo Jesus que todas as coisas já estavam terminadas, para que pudesse se cumprir a escritura, disse: Tenho sede.
29 There was a bowl standing there full of common wine; so they put a sponge soaked in the wine on the end of a hyssop-stalk, and held it up to his mouth.
29 Ora, estava ali um vaso cheio de vinagre; e embeberam uma esponja de vinagre, e pondo-a sobre um hissopo, a colocaram na sua boca.
30 When Jesus had received the wine, he exclaimed: “All is finished!”Then, bowing his head, he resigned his spirit to God.
30 Quando Jesus tomou o vinagre, disse: Está consumado; e ele, inclinando a cabeça, entregou o espírito.
31 It was the Preparation day, and so, to prevent the bodies from remaining on the crosses during the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a great day), the Jews asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies removed.
31 Os judeus, pois, porque era a preparação, para que os corpos não ficassem na cruz no dia do shabat, (porque foi aquele shabat um grande dia), pediram a Pilatos que se lhes quebrassem as pernas, e que fossem tirados dali.
32 Accordingly the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first man, and then those of the other who had been crucified with Jesus;
32 Foram então os soldados, e quebraram as pernas do primeiro, e do outro que com ele fora crucificado.
33 but, on coming to him, when they saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.
33 Mas, vindo a Jesus, e vendo-o já morto, eles não quebraram as suas pernas.
34 One of the soldiers, however, pierced his side with a spear, and blood and water immediately flowed from it.
34 Mas, um dos soldados lhe perfurou o lado com uma lança, e imediatamente saiu sangue e água.
35 This is the statement of one who actually saw it — and his statement may be relied on, and he knows that he is speaking the truth — and it is given in order that you also may be convinced.
35 E aquele que o viu testificou, e o seu testemunho é verdadeiro; e ele sabe que é verdade o que diz, para que também vós o creiais.
36 For all this happened in fulfillment of the words of scripture — ‘Not one of its bones will be broken.’
36 Pois estas coisas foram feitas, para que se cumprisse a escritura: Nenhum dos seus ossos será quebrado.
37 And there is another passage which says — ‘They will look on him whom they pierced.’
37 E outra vez diz a escritura: Eles olharão para o qual perfuraram.
38 After this, Joseph of Ramah, a disciple of Jesus — but a secret one, owing to his fear of the religious authorities — begged Pilate’s permission to remove the body of Jesus. Pilate gave him leave; so Joseph went and removed the body.
38 E depois disso, José de Arimateia, sendo discípulo de Jesus, mas em secreto, por medo dos judeus, pediu a Pilatos que lhe permitisse tirar o corpo de Jesus; e Pilatos o deixou. Portanto, ele foi e tomou o corpo de Jesus.
39 Nicodemus, too — the man who had formerly visited Jesus by night — came with a roll of myrrh and aloes, weighing nearly a hundred pounds.
39 E foi também Nicodemos, aquele que antes viera ter com Jesus de noite, trazendo uma mistura de mirra e aloés, pesando cerca de cem libras.
40 They took the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen with the spices, according to the Jewish mode of burial.
40 Eles tomaram então o corpo de Jesus, e o envolveram em panos de linho com as especiarias, de acordo com os costumes judaicos de sepultamento.
41 At the place where Jesus had been crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a newly made tomb in which no one had ever been laid.
41 Ora, no lugar onde ele fora crucificado havia um jardim, e nesse jardim, um sepulcro novo, em que nenhum homem havia sido colocado.
42 And so, because of its being the Preparation day, and as the tomb was close at hand, they laid Jesus there.
42 Eles colocaram Jesus ali, por ser dia da preparação dos judeus, e visto que o sepulcro ficava perto.
