1 I have spoken to you in this way so that you may not falter.
1 Tenho-vos dito essas não escandalizeis.
2 They will expel you from their Synagogues; indeed the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think that they are making an offering to God.
2 Expulsar-vos-ão das sinagogas; vem mesmo a hora em que qualquer que vos matar cuidará fazer um serviço a Deus.
3 They will do this, because they have not learned to know the Father, or even me.
3 E isso vos farão, porque não conheceram ao Pai nem a mim.
4 But I have spoken to you of these things so that, when the time for them comes, you may remember that I told you about them myself.
4 Mas tenho-vos dito isso, a fim de que, quando chegar aquela hora, vos lembreis de que vos disse isso desde o princípio, porque estava convosco.
5 I did not tell you all this at first, because I was with you. But now I am to return to him who sent me; and yet not one of you asks me — ‘Where are you going?’
5 E, agora, vou para aquele que me enviou; e nenhum de vós me pergunta: Para onde vais?
6 Although your hearts are full of sorrow at all that I have been saying to you.
6 Antes, porque isso vos tenho dito, o vosso coração se encheu de tristeza.
7 Yet I am only telling you the truth; it is for your good that I should go away. For otherwise the helper will never come to you, but, if I leave you, I will send him to you.
7 Todavia, digo-vos a verdade: que vos convém que eu vá, porque, se eu não for, o Consolador não virá a vós; mas, se eu for, enviar-vo-lo-ei.
8 And he, when he comes, will bring conviction to the world as to sin, and as to righteousness, and as to judgment;
8 E, quando ele vier, convencerá o mundo do pecado, e da justiça, e do juízo:
9 as to sin, for people do not believe in me;
9 do pecado, porque não creem em mim;
10 as to righteousness, for I am going to the Father, and you will see me no longer;
10 da justiça, porque vou para meu Pai, e não me vereis mais;
11 as to judgment, for the Spirit that is ruling this world has been condemned.
11 e do juízo, porque o príncipe deste mundo está julgado.
12 I have still much to say to you, but you cannot bear it now.
12 Ainda tenho muito que vos dizer, mas vós não o podeis suportar agora.
13 Yet when he — The Spirit of truth — comes, he will guide you into all truth; for he will not speak on his own authority, but he will speak of all that he hears; and he will tell you of the things that are to come.
13 Mas, quando vier aquele Espírito da verdade, ele vos guiará em toda a verdade, porque não falará de si mesmo, mas dirá tudo o que tiver ouvido e vos anunciará o que há de vir.
14 He will honor me; because he will take of what is mine, and will tell it to you.
14 Ele me glorificará, porque há de receber do
15 Everything that the Father has is mine; that is why I said that he takes of what is mine, and will tell it to you.
15 Tudo quanto o Pai tem é meu; por isso,
16 In a little while you will no longer see me; and then in a little while you will see me indeed.”
16 Um pouco, e não me vereis; e outra vez um pouco, e ver-me-eis, porquanto vou para o Pai.
17 At this some of his disciples said to one another: “What does he mean by saying to us ‘In a little while you will not see me, and then in a little while you will see me indeed’;and by saying ‘Because I am going to the Father’?
17 Então, alguns dos seus discípulos disseram uns para os outros: Que é isto que nos diz: Um pouco, e não me vereis, e outra vez um pouco, e ver-me-eis; e: Porquanto vou para o Pai?
18 What does he mean by ‘In a little while’?”they said; “we do not know what he is speaking about.”
18 Diziam, pois: Que quer dizer isto: um pouco? Não sabemos o que diz.
19 Jesus saw that they were wanting to ask him a question, and said: “Are you trying to find out from one another what I meant by saying ‘In a little while you will not see me; and then in a little while you will see me indeed’?
19 Conheceu, pois, Jesus que o queriam interrogar e disse-lhes: Indagais entre vós acerca disto que disse: um pouco, e não me vereis, e outra vez um pouco, e ver-me-eis?
20 In truth I tell you that you will weep and mourn, but the world will rejoice; you will suffer pain, but your pain will turn to joy.
20 Na verdade, na verdade vos digo que vós chorastes e vos lamentareis, e o mundo se alegrará, e vós estareis tristes; mas a vossa tristeza se converterá em alegria.
21 A woman in labor is in pain because her time has come; but no sooner is the child born, than she forgets her trouble in her joy that a child has been born into the world.
21 A mulher, quando está para dar à luz, sente tristeza, porque é chegada a sua hora; mas, depois de ter dado à luz a criança, já se não lembra da aflição, pelo prazer de haver nascido um homem no mundo.
22 You, in the same way, are sorry now; but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will rob you of your joy.
22 Assim também vós, agora, na verdade, tendes tristeza; mas outra vez vos verei, e o vosso coração se alegrará, e a vossa alegria, ninguém vo-la tirará.
23 And at that time you will not ask me anything; in truth I tell you, if you ask the Father for anything, he will grant it to you in my name.
23 E, naquele dia, nada me perguntareis. Na verdade, na verdade vos digo que tudo quanto pedirdes a meu Pai, em meu nome, ele vo-lo há de dar.
24 So far you have not asked for anything, in my name; ask, and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.
24 Até agora, nada pedistes em meu nome; pedi e recebereis, para que a vossa alegria se cumpra.
25 I have spoken to you of all this in figures; a time is coming, however, when I will not speak any longer to you in figures, but will tell you about the Father plainly.
25 Disse-vos isso por parábolas; chega, porém, a hora em que vos não falarei mais por parábolas, mas abertamente vos falarei acerca do Pai.
26 You will ask, at that time, in my name; and I do not say that I will intercede with the Father for you;
26 Naquele dia, pedireis em meu nome, e não vos digo que eu rogarei por vós ao Pai,
27 for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came from the Father.
27 pois o mesmo Pai vos ama, visto como vós me amastes e crestes que saí de Deus.
28 I came out from the Father, and have come into the world; and now I am to leave the world, and go to the Father.”
28 Saí do Pai e vim ao mundo; outra vez, deixo o mundo e vou para o Pai.
29 “At last,” exclaimed the disciples, “you are using plain words and not speaking in figures at all.
29 Disseram-lhe os seus discípulos: Eis que, agora, falas abertamente e não dizes parábola alguma.
30 Now we are sure that you know everything, and need not wait for anyone to question you. This makes us believe that you did come from God.”
30 Agora, conhecemos que sabes tudo e não precisas de que alguém te interrogue. Por isso, cremos que saíste de Deus.
31 “Do you believe that already?”Jesus answered.
31 Respondeu-lhes Jesus: Credes, agora?
32 “Listen! A time is coming — indeed it has already come — when you are to be scattered, each going his own way, and to leave me alone; and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
32 Eis que chega a hora, e já se aproxima, em que vós sereis dispersos, cada um para sua mas não estou só, porque o Pai está comigo.
33 I have spoken to you in this way, so that in me you may find peace. In the world you will find trouble; yet, take courage! I have conquered the world.”
33 Tenho-vos dito isso, para que em mim tenhais paz; no mundo tereis aflições, mas tende bom ânimo; eu venci o mundo.
