1 To all Christ’s people at Philippi, with the presiding officers and assistants, from Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus.
1 Paulo e Timóteo, escravos de Cristo Jesus, escrevemos a todo o povo santo em Cristo Jesus que está em Filipos, incluindo os bispos e diáconos.
2 May God, our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ bless you, and give you peace.
2 Que Deus, nosso Pai, e o Senhor Jesus Cristo lhes deem graça e paz.
3 Every recollection that I have of you is a cause of thankfulness to God,
3 Todas as vezes que penso em vocês, dou graças a meu Deus.
4 always, in every prayer that I offer for you all — my prayers are full of joy —
4 Sempre que oro, peço por todos vocês com alegria,
5 Because of the share that you have had in spreading the good news, from the first day that you received it until now.
5 pois são meus cooperadores na propagação das boas-novas, desde o primeiro dia até agora.
6 For of this I am confident, that he who began a good work in you will complete it in readiness for the day of Jesus Christ.
6 Tenho certeza de que aquele que começou a boa obra em vocês irá completá-la até o dia em que Cristo Jesus voltar.
7 And, indeed, I am justified in feeling like this about you all; because you have a warm place in my heart — you who all, both in my imprisonment and in the work of defending and establishing the good news, shared my privilege with me.
7 É apropriado que eu me sinta assim a respeito de vocês, pois os tenho em meu coração. Vocês têm participado comigo da graça, tanto em minha prisão como na defesa e confirmação das boas-novas.
8 God will bear me witness how I yearn over you all with the tenderness of Christ Jesus.
8 Deus sabe do meu amor por vocês e da saudade que tenho de todos, com a mesma compaixão de Cristo Jesus.
9 And what I pray for is this — that your love may grow yet stronger and stronger, with increasing knowledge and all discernment,
9 Oro para que o amor de vocês transborde cada vez mais e que continuem a crescer em conhecimento e discernimento.
10 until you are able to appreciate all moral distinctions. And I pray, too, that you may be kept pure and blameless against the day of Christ,
10 Quero que compreendam o que é verdadeiramente importante, para que vivam de modo puro e sem culpa até o dia em que Cristo voltar.
11 bearing a rich harvest of that righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
11 Que vocês sejam sempre cheios do fruto da justiça, que vem por meio de Jesus Cristo, para a glória e o louvor de Deus.
12 Friends, I want you to realize that what has happened to me has actually served to forward the good news.
12 Quero que saibam, irmãos, que tudo que me aconteceu tem ajudado a propagar as boas-novas.
13 It has even become evident, not only to all the imperial guard, but to everyone else, that it is for Christ’s sake that I am in chains.
13 Pois todos aqui, incluindo toda a guarda do palácio, sabem que estou preso por causa de Cristo.
14 And besides this, most of our fellow followers have gained confidence in the Lord through my chains, and now venture with far greater freedom to speak of God’s message fearlessly.
14 E, por causa de minha prisão, a maioria dos irmãos daqui se tornou mais confiante no Senhor e anuncia a mensagem de Deus com determinação e sem temor.
15 It is true that some do proclaim the Christ out of Jealousy and opposition; but there are others who proclaim him from goodwill.
15 É verdade que alguns anunciam a Cristo por inveja e rivalidade, mas outros o fazem de boa vontade.
16 The latter do it from love for me, knowing that I have been appointed to plead the cause of the good news.
16 Estes pregam por amor, pois sabem que fui designado para defender as boas-novas.
17 The former spread the news of the Christ in a factious spirit, and not sincerely, thinking to add to the pain of my chains.
17 Aqueles, no entanto, anunciam a Cristo por ambição egoísta, não com sinceridade, mas com o objetivo de aumentar meu sofrimento enquanto estou preso.
18 But what of that? Only that in some way or other, either with assumed or with real earnestness, Christ is being made known; and at that I rejoice.
18 Mas nada disso importa. Sejam as motivações deles falsas, sejam verdadeiras, a mensagem a respeito de Cristo está sendo anunciada, e isso me alegra. E continuarei a me alegrar,
19 Yes, and I will rejoice, for I know that, through your prayers and through a rich supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, ‘all this will make for my salvation.’
19 pois sei que, com suas orações e o auxílio do Espírito de Jesus Cristo, isso resultará em minha libertação.
20 And this will fulfill my earnest expectation and hope that I will have no cause for shame, but that, with unfailing courage, now as hitherto, Christ will be honored in my body, whether by my life or by my death,
20 Minha grande expectativa e esperança é que eu jamais seja envergonhado, mas que continue a trabalhar corajosamente, como sempre fiz, de modo que Cristo seja honrado por meu intermédio, quer eu viva, quer eu morra.
21 for to me life is Christ, and death is gain.
21 Pois, para mim, o viver é Cristo, e o morrer é lucro.
22 But what if the life here in the body — if this brings me fruit from my labors? Then which to choose I cannot tell! I am sorely perplexed either way!
22 Mas, se continuar vivo, posso trabalhar e produzir fruto para Cristo. Na verdade, não sei o que escolher.
23 My own desire is to depart and be with Christ, for this would be far better.
23 Estou dividido entre os dois desejos: quero partir e estar com Cristo, o que me seria muitíssimo melhor.
24 But, for your sakes, it may be more needful that I should still remain here in the body.
24 Contudo, por causa de vocês, é mais importante que eu continue a viver.
25 Yes, I am confident that this is so, and therefore I am sure that I will stay, and stay near you all, to promote your progress and joy in the faith;
25 Ciente disso, estou certo de que continuarei vivo para ajudar todos vocês a crescer na fé e experimentar a alegria que ela traz.
26 so that, when you once more have me among you, you, in your union with Christ Jesus, may find in me fresh cause for exultation.
26 E, quando eu voltar, terão ainda mais motivos para se orgulhar em Cristo Jesus pelo que ele tem feito por meu intermédio.
27 Under all circumstances let your lives be worthy of the good news of the Christ: so that, whether I come and see you, or whether I hear of your affairs at a distance, I may know that you are standing firm, animated by one spirit, and joining with one heart in a common struggle for the faith taught by the good news,
27 O mais importante é que vocês vivam em sua comunidade de maneira digna das boas-novas de Cristo. Então, quando eu for vê-los novamente, ou mesmo quando ouvir a seu respeito, saberei que estão firmes e unidos em um só espírito e em um só propósito, lutando juntos pela fé que é proclamada nas boas-novas.
28 without ever shrinking from your opponents. To them this will be a sign of their destruction and of your salvation — a sign from God.
28 Não se deixem intimidar por aqueles que se opõem a vocês. Isso é um sinal de Deus de que eles serão destruídos, e vocês serão salvos.
29 For, on behalf of Christ, you have had the privilege granted you, not only of trusting in him, but also of suffering on his behalf.
29 Pois vocês receberam o privilégio não apenas de crer em Cristo, mas também de sofrer por ele.
30 You will be engaged in the same hard struggle as that which you once saw me waging, and which you hear that I am waging still.
30 Estamos juntos nesta luta. Vocês viram as dificuldades que enfrentei no passado e sabem que elas ainda não terminaram.
