1 Therefore imitate God, as his dear children,
1 Portanto, sejam imitadores de Deus, como filhos amados,
2 and live a life of love, following the example of the Christ, who loved you and gave himself for you as ‘an offering and a sacrifice to God, that should be fragrant and acceptable.’
2 e vivam em amor, como também Cristo nos amou e se entregou por nós como oferta e sacrifício de aroma agradável a Deus.
3 As for sexual immorality and every kind of impurity, or greed, do not let them even be mentioned among you, as befits Christ’s people,
3 Entre vocês não deve haver nem sequer menção de imoralidade sexual nem de qualquer espécie de impureza nem de cobiça; pois estas coisas não são próprias para os santos.
4 nor shameful conduct, nor foolish talk or jesting, for they are wholly out of place among you; but rather thanksgiving.
4 Não haja obscenidade nem conversas tolas nem gracejos imorais, que são inconvenientes, mas, ao invés disso, ação de graças.
5 For of this you may be sure — that no one who is unchaste or impure or greedy of gain (for to be greedy of gain is idolatry) has any place awaiting him in the kingdom of the Christ and God.
5 Porque vocês podem estar certos disto: nenhum imoral nem impuro nem ganancioso, que é idólatra, tem herança no Reino de Cristo e de Deus.
6 Do not let anyone deceive you with specious arguments. Those are the sins that bring down the wrath of God on the disobedient.
6 Ninguém os engane com palavras tolas, pois é por causa dessas coisas que a ira de Deus vem sobre os que vivem na desobediência.
7 Therefore have nothing to do with such people.
7 Portanto, não participem com eles dessas coisas.
8 For, although you were once in darkness, now, by your union with the Lord, you are in the light. Live as ‘children of light’ —
8 Porque outrora vocês eram trevas, mas agora são luz no Senhor. Vivam como filhos da luz,
9 For the outcome of life in the light may be seen in every form of goodness, righteousness, and sincerity —
9 pois o fruto da luz consiste em toda bondade, justiça e verdade;
10 Always trying to find out what is pleasing to the Lord.
10 e aprendam a discernir o que é agradável ao Senhor.
11 Take no part in deeds of darkness, from which no good can come; on the contrary, expose them.
11 Não participem das obras infrutíferas das trevas; antes, exponham-nas à luz.
12 It is degrading even to speak of the things continually done by them in secret.
12 Porque aquilo que eles fazem em oculto, até mencionar é vergonhoso.
13 All such actions, when exposed, have their true character made manifest by the light.
13 Mas, tudo o que é exposto pela luz torna-se visível, pois a luz torna visíveis todas as coisas.
14 For everything that has its true character made manifest is clear as light. And that is why it is said — ‘Sleeper, awake! Arise from the dead, And the Christ will give you light!’
14 Por isso é que foi dito: "Desperta, ó tu que dormes, levanta-te dentre os mortos e Cristo resplandecerá sobre ti".
15 Take great care, then, how you live — not unwisely but wisely,
15 Tenham cuidado com a maneira como vocês vivem; que não seja como insensatos, mas como sábios,
16 making the most of every opportunity; for these are evil days.
16 aproveitando ao máximo cada oportunidade, porque os dias são maus.
17 Therefore do not grow thoughtless, but try to understand what the Lord’s will is.
17 Portanto, não sejam insensatos, mas procurem compreender qual é a vontade do Senhor.
18 Do not drink wine to excess, for that leads to profligacy; but seek to be filled with the Spirit of God, and speak to one another in psalms and hymns and sacred songs.
18 Não se embriaguem com vinho, que leva à libertinagem, mas deixem-se encher pelo Espírito,
19 Sing and make music in your hearts to the Lord.
19 falando entre si com salmos, hinos e cânticos espirituais, cantando e louvando de coração ao Senhor,
20 Always give thanks for everything to our God and Father, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
20 dando graças constantemente a Deus Pai por todas as coisas, em nome de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.
21 and submit to one another because you honor and respect him.
21 Sujeitem-se uns aos outros, por temor a Cristo.
22 Wives should submit to their husbands as submitting to the Lord.
22 Mulheres, sujeitem-se a seus maridos, como ao Senhor,
23 For a man is the head of his wife, as the Christ is the head of the church — being indeed himself the Savior of his body.
23 pois o marido é o cabeça da mulher, como também Cristo é o cabeça da igreja, que é o seu corpo, do qual ele é o Salvador.
24 But as the church submits to the Christ, so also should wives submit to their husbands in everything.
24 Assim como a igreja está sujeita a Cristo, também as mulheres estejam em tudo sujeitas a seus maridos.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as the Christ loved the church, and gave himself for her,
25 Maridos, amem suas mulheres, assim como Cristo amou a igreja e entregou-se a si mesmo por ela
26 to make her holy, after purifying her by the washing with the water, according to his promise;
26 para santificá-la, tendo-a purificado pelo lavar da água mediante a palavra,
27 so that he might himself bring the church, in all her beauty, into his own presence, with no spot or wrinkle or blemish of any kind, but that she might be holy and faultless.
27 e apresentá-la a si mesmo como igreja gloriosa, sem mancha nem ruga ou coisa semelhante, mas santa e inculpável.
28 That is how husbands ought to love their wives — as if they were their own bodies. A man who loves his wife is really loving himself;
28 Da mesma forma, os maridos devem amar as suas mulheres como a seus próprios corpos. Quem ama sua mulher, ama a si mesmo.
29 for no one ever yet hated his own body. But everyone feeds his body and cares for it, just as the Christ for the church;
29 Além do mais, ninguém jamais odiou o seu próprio corpo, antes o alimenta e dele cuida, como também Cristo faz com a igreja,
30 for we are members of his body.
30 pois somos membros do seu corpo.
31 ‘For this cause a man will leave his father and mother, and be united to his wife; and the man and his wife will become one.’
31 "Por essa razão, o homem deixará pai e mãe e se unirá à sua mulher, e os dois se tornarão uma só carne".
32 In this there is a profound truth — I am speaking of Christ and his church.
32 Este é um mistério profundo; refiro-me, porém, a Cristo e à igreja.
33 However, for you individually, let each love his wife as if she were himself; and the wife be careful to respect her husband.
33 Portanto, cada um de vocês também ame a sua mulher como a si mesmo, e a mulher trate o marido com todo o respeito.
