1 I beg you, then — I who am a prisoner in the Master’s cause — to live lives worthy of the call that you have received;
1 Por isso eu, o prisioneiro no Senhor, peço que vocês vivam de maneira digna da vocação a que foram chamados,
2 always humble and gentle, patient, bearing lovingly with one another,
2 com toda a humildade e mansidão, com longanimidade, suportando uns aos outros em amor,
3 and striving to maintain in the bond of peace the unity given by the Spirit.
3 fazendo tudo para preservar a unidade do Espírito no vínculo da paz.
4 There is but one body and one Spirit, just as there was but one hope set before you when you received your call.
4 Há somente um corpo e um só Espírito, como também é uma só a esperança para a qual vocês foram chamados.
5 There is but one Lord, one faith, one baptism.
5 Há um só Senhor, uma só fé, um só batismo,
6 There is but one God and Father of all — the God who is over all, pervades all, and is in all.
6 um só Deus e Pai de todos, o qual é sobre todos, age por meio de todos e está em todos.
7 Everyone of us, however, has been entrusted with some charge, each in accordance with the extent of the gift of the Christ.
7 E a graça foi concedida a cada um de nós segundo a medida do dom de Cristo.
8 That is why it is said — ‘When he went up on high, he led his captives into captivity. And gave gifts to humanity.’
8 Por isso diz: “Quando ele subiu às alturas, levou cativo o cativeiro e concedeu dons aos homens.”
9 Now surely this ‘going up’ must imply that he had already gone down into the world beneath.
9 Ora, o que quer dizer “ele subiu”, senão que também havia descido até as regiões inferiores da terra?
10 He who went down is the same as he who went up — up beyond the highest heaven, so that he might fill all things with his presence.
10 Aquele que desceu é também o mesmo que subiu acima de todos os céus, para encher todas as coisas.
11 And he it is who gave to the church apostles, prophets, Missionaries, Pastors, and teachers,
11 E ele mesmo concedeu uns para apóstolos, outros para profetas, outros para evangelistas e outros para pastores e mestres,
12 to fit his people for the work of the ministry, for the building up of the body of the Christ.
12 com vistas ao aperfeiçoamento dos santos para o desempenho do seu serviço, para a edificação do corpo de Cristo,
13 And this will continue, until we all attain to that unity which is given by faith and by a fuller knowledge of the Son of God; until we reach maturity — the full standard of the perfection of the Christ.
13 até que todos cheguemos à unidade da fé e do pleno conhecimento do Filho de Deus, ao estado de pessoa madura, à medida da estatura da plenitude de Cristo,
14 Then we will no longer be like infants, tossed backward and forward, blown about by every breath of human teaching and by people's trickery and craftiness;
14 para que não mais sejamos como crianças, arrastados pelas ondas e levados de um lado para outro por qualquer vento de doutrina, pela artimanha das pessoas, pela astúcia com que induzem ao erro.
15 but holding the truth in a spirit of love, we will grow into complete union with him who is our head — Christ himself.
15 Mas, seguindo a verdade em amor, cresçamos em tudo naquele que é a cabeça, Cristo,
16 For from him the whole body, closely joined and knit together by the contact of every part with the source of its life, derives its power to grow, in proportion to the vigour of each individual part; and so is being built up in a spirit of love.
16 de quem todo o corpo, bem-ajustado e consolidado pelo auxílio de todas as juntas, segundo a justa cooperação de cada parte, efetua o seu próprio crescimento para a edificação de si mesmo em amor.
17 This, then, as one in union with the Lord, I implore: Do not continue to live such purposeless lives as the Gentiles live,
17 Isto, portanto, digo e no Senhor testifico: não vivam mais como os gentios, que vivem na vaidade dos seus próprios pensamentos,
18 with their powers of discernment darkened, cut off from the life of God, owing to the ignorance that prevails among them and to the hardness of their hearts.
18 tendo o seu entendimento obscurecido, separados da vida que Deus concede, por causa da ignorância em que vivem, pela dureza do seu coração.
19 Lost to all sense of shame, they have abandoned themselves to licentiousness, in order to practice every kind of impurity without restraint.
19 Tendo-se tornado insensíveis, eles se entregaram à libertinagem para, de forma desenfreada, cometer todo tipo de impureza.
20 But far different is the lesson you learned from the Christ — if, that is, you really listened to him,
20 Mas não foi assim que vocês aprenderam de Cristo,
21 and through union with him were taught the truth, as it is to be found in Jesus.
21 se é que, de fato, ouviram falar dele e nele foram instruídos, segundo é a verdade em Jesus.
22 For you learned with regard to your former way of living that you must cast off your old nature, which, yielding to deluding passions, grows corrupt;
22 Quanto à maneira antiga de viver, vocês foram instruídos a deixar de lado a velha natureza, que se corrompe segundo desejos enganosos,
23 that the spirit of your minds must be constantly renewed;
23 a se deixar renovar no espírito do entendimento de vocês,
24 and that you must clothe yourselves in that new nature which was created to resemble God, with the righteousness and holiness springing from the truth.
24 e a se revestir da nova natureza, criada segundo Deus, em justiça e retidão procedentes da verdade.
25 Since, therefore, you have cast off what is false, ‘you must every one of you speak the truth to your neighbors.’ For we are united to one another like the parts of a body.
25 Por isso, deixando a mentira, que cada um fale a verdade com o seu próximo, porque somos membros do mesmo corpo.
26 ‘Be angry, yet do not sin.’ Do not let the sun go down on your anger;
26 Fiquem irados e não pequem. Não deixem que o sol se ponha sobre a ira de vocês,
27 and give no opportunity to the devil.
27 nem deem lugar ao diabo.
28 Let the person who steals steal no longer, but rather let them toil with their hands at honest work, so that they may have something to share with anyone in need.
28 Aquele que roubava não roube mais; pelo contrário, trabalhe, fazendo com as próprias mãos o que é bom, para que tenha o que repartir com o necessitado.
29 Never let any foul word pass your lips, but only such good words as the occasion demands, so that they may be a help to those who hear them.
29 Não saia da boca de vocês nenhuma palavra suja, mas unicamente a que for boa para edificação, conforme a necessidade, e, assim, transmita graça aos que ouvem.
30 And do not grieve God’s Holy Spirit; for it was through that Spirit that God sealed you as his, against the day of Redemption.
30 E não entristeçam o Espírito Santo de Deus, no qual vocês foram selados para o dia da redenção.
31 Let all bitterness, passion, anger, brawling, and abusive language be banished from among you, as well as all malice.
31 Que não haja no meio de vocês qualquer amargura, indignação, ira, gritaria e blasfêmia, bem como qualquer maldade.
32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, ready to forgive one another, just as God, in Christ, forgave you.
32 Pelo contrário, sejam bondosos e compassivos uns para com os outros, perdoando uns aos outros, como também Deus, em Cristo, perdoou vocês.
