1 And the word of Jehovah was to Jonah the second time, saying,
1 E a palavra do SENHOR veio a Jonas pela segunda vez, dizendo:
2 Rise up, go to Nineveh, the great city, and cry out to it the proclamation that I am declaring to you.
2 Levanta-te, vai à Nínive, aquela grande cidade, e prega contra ela a mensagem que eu te ofereço.
3 And Jonah rose up and went to Nineveh according to the word of Jehovah. And Nineveh was a great city to God, of three days' journey.
3 Então Jonas se levantou, e foi a Nínive, segundo a palavra do SENHOR. Ora, Nínive era uma cidade muito grande, de três dias de jornada.
4 And Jonah began to enter a day's journey into the city. And he cried out and said, Yet forty days and Nineveh shall be overthrown!
4 E Jonas começou a entrar pela cidade jornada de um dia, e clamava, dizendo: ainda quarenta dias, e Nínive será derrubada.
5 And the men of Nineveh believed in God, and they called a fast and put on sackclothes, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
5 Assim as pessoas de Nínive creram em Deus, e proclamaram um jejum, e vestiram-se de pano de saco, desde o maior até ao menor.
6 And the word touched even to the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he took his robe from him and covered himself with sackcloth and sat on the ashes.
6 Assim, pois, a palavra chegou ao rei de Nínive; e ele levantou-se do seu trono, tirou de si as suas vestes, cobriu-se de pano de saco, e sentou-se sobre a cinza.
7 And he cried and said in Nineveh by the decree of the king and of his great ones, saying, Do not let man or beast, herd or flock, taste anything; do not let them feed nor let them drink water.
7 E ele fez com que isso fosse proclamado e divulgado através de Nínive, pelo decreto do rei e dos seus nobres, dizendo: nem homens, nem animais, nem bois, nem ovelhas provem coisa alguma; nem se lhes dê alimentos, nem bebam água;
8 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth. And let them call with strength to God. And let them each one turn from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their palms.
8 mas os homens e os animais sejam cobertos de pano de saco, e clamem poderosamente a Deus; sim, convertam-se, cada um do seu caminho mal, e da violência que está nas suas mãos.
9 Who knows? He may turn, and God may have pity and turn away from the glow of His anger, that we do not perish.
9 Quem pode dizer se Deus voltará e se arrependerá, e se apartará do furor da sua ira, para que nós não pereçamos?
10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way. And God was compassionate over the evil that He had declared to do to them, and He did not do it .
10 E Deus viu as suas obras, como se desviaram do seu mau caminho; e Deus se arrependeu do mal que tinha anunciado que faria a eles, e não o fez.
