Eclesiastes 6

1 There is an evil that I have seen under the sun, and it is great among men:
1 Há um mal que vi debaixo do sol e que pesa sobre a humanidade:
2 A man to whom God has given riches, and wealth, and honor, so that he lacks nothing for his soul of all that he desires; yet God does not give him the power to eat of it, but a stranger eats it; this is vanity, and it is an evil disease.
2 aquele a quem Deus conferiu riquezas, bens e honra, e nada lhe falta de tudo o que a sua alma deseja, mas Deus não lhe concede que desfrute disso; ficará para um estranho. Também isto é vaidade e grande mal.
3 If a man fathers a hundred, and lives many years, and the days of his years are many, and his soul is not satisfied from the good, and also there is no burial for him; I say, a miscarriage is better than he.
3 Se alguém gerar cem filhos e viver muitos anos, até uma idade avançada, e se a sua alma não se fartar do bem, e além disso não tiver sepultura, digo que um aborto é mais feliz do que ele.
4 For he comes in with vanity, and goes out in darkness; his name shall be covered in darkness.
4 Pois o aborto vem ao mundo para nada e desaparece na calada da noite, e as trevas encobrem o seu nome.
5 Also he has not seen nor known the sun; this one has more rest than that one .
5 Não viu o sol, nada conhece, porém tem mais descanso do que o outro,
6 Yea, though he lives twice a thousand years, yet he has seen no good. Do not all go to one place?
6 ainda que aquele vivesse duas vezes mil anos, mas não desfrutasse do bem. Por acaso, não vão todos para o mesmo lugar?
7 All the labor of man is for his mouth, and yet the soul is not filled.
7 Todo trabalho do ser humano é para a sua boca; contudo, o seu apetite nunca se satisfaz.
8 For what is the advantage to the wise more than the fool? What advantage is to the poor who knows how to walk before the living?
8 Pois que vantagem tem o sábio sobre o tolo? Ou o pobre que sabe como sobreviver?
9 Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the soul. This is also vanity and striving after wind.
9 Melhor é o que os olhos veem do que aquilo que a alma deseja. Também isto é vaidade e correr atrás do vento.
10 That which has been is named already, and it is known that he is man; and he is not able to contend with Him who is stronger than he.
10 Tudo o que agora existe já recebeu um nome há muito tempo. E sabe-se o que é o ser humano, e que não pode enfrentar quem é mais forte do que ele.
11 For there are many things that increase vanity, and what is the advantage to man?
11 Quando aumentam as palavras, aumenta a vaidade. Qual o proveito que se tem disso?
12 For who knows what is good for man in this life, the number of the days of his vain life? Even he makes them like the shadow. For who can tell a man what shall be after him under the sun?
12 Pois quem sabe o que é bom para uma pessoa durante os poucos dias da sua vida de vaidade, os quais ela gasta como sombra? Quem poderá lhe dizer o que vai acontecer debaixo do sol depois que ela morrer?
