1 My child, if you have pledged to your neighbor, if you have bound ⌞yourself⌟ to the stranger,
1 Filho meu, se ficaste por fiador do teu companheiro, se deste a tua mão ao estranho,
2 if you are snared by the sayings of your mouth, if you are caught by the sayings of your mouth,
2 enredaste-te com as palavras da tua boca, prendeste-te com as palavras da tua boca.
3 do this, then, my child, and save yourself, for you have come into ⌞the palm of your neighbor’s hand⌟: Go, humble yourself, plead with your neighbor.
3 Faze, pois, isto agora, filho meu, e livra-te, pois já caíste nas mãos do teu companheiro: vai, humilha-te e importuna o teu companheiro;
4 Do not give sleep to your eyes, or slumber to your eyelids.
4 não dês sono aos teus olhos, nem repouso às tuas pálpebras;
5 Save yourself like a gazelle from a hand, or like a bird from the hand of a fowler.
5 livra-te, como a gazela, da mão do caçador e, como a ave, da mão do passarinheiro.
6 Go to the ant, lazy! Consider its ways and be wise.
6 Vai ter com a formiga, ó preguiçoso; olha para os seus caminhos e sê sábio.
7 It has no chief, officer, or ruler.
7 A qual, não tendo superior, nem oficial, nem dominador,
8 In the summer, it prepares its food; in the harvest, it gathers its sustenance.
8 prepara no verão o seu pão; na sega ajunta o seu mantimento.
9 How long will you lie down, lazy? When will you rise up from your sleep?
9 Ó preguiçoso, até quando ficarás deitado? Quando te levantarás do teu sono?
10 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands for rest—
10 Um pouco de sono, um pouco tosquenejando, um pouco encruzando as mãos, para estar deitado,
11 like a ⌞robber⌟ shall your poverty come, and what you lack like an armed man.
11 assim te sobrevirá a tua pobreza como um ladrão, e a tua necessidade, como um homem armado.
12 A worthless man, an evil man, goes around with ⌞deceitful speech⌟.
12 O homem de Belial, o homem vicioso, anda em perversidade de boca.
13 Winking in his eye, shuffling in his foot, pointing in his fingers,
13 Acena com os olhos, fala com os pés, faz sinais com os dedos.
14 perversion in his heart, he devises evil; at all times he will send out discord.
14 Perversidade há no seu coração; todo o tempo maquina mal; anda semeando contendas.
15 Upon ⌞such a man⌟, suddenly shall his calamity come; in a moment he will be damaged and there is no healing.
15 Pelo que a sua destruição virá repentinamente; subitamente será quebrantado, sem que haja cura.
16 There are six things Yahweh hates, and seven things are abominations of his soul:
16 Estas seis coisas aborrece o Senhor , e a sétima a sua alma abomina:
17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
17 olhos altivos, e língua mentirosa, e mãos que derramam sangue inocente,
18 a devising heart, plans of deception, feet that hurry to run to evil,
18 e coração que maquina pensamentos viciosos, e pés que se apressam a correr para o mal,
19 a false witness who breathes lies and sends out discord between brothers.
19 e testemunha falsa que profere mentiras, e o que semeia contendas entre irmãos.
20 My child, keep the commandment of your father, and do not disregard the instruction of your mother.
20 Filho meu, guarda o mandamento de teu pai e não deixes a lei de tua mãe.
21 Bind them on your heart continually; tie them upon your neck.
21 Ata-os perpetuamente ao teu coração e pendura-os ao teu pescoço.
22 ⌞When you walk⌟, she will lead you, ⌞When you lie down⌟, she will watch over you, and when you awake, she will converse with you.
22 Quando caminhares, isso te guiará; quando te deitares, te guardará; quando acordares, falará contigo.
23 For like a lamp is a commandment, and instruction is light, and the way of life is the reproof of discipline,
23 Porque o mandamento é uma lâmpada, e a lei, uma luz, e as repreensões da correção são o caminho da vida,
24 in order to preserve you from an evil woman, from the smoothness of the tongue of ⌞an adulteress⌟.
24 para te guardarem da má mulher e das lisonjas da língua estranha.
25 Do not desire her beauty in your heart; may she not capture you with her eyelashes.
25 Não cobices no teu coração a sua formosura, nem te prendas com os seus olhos.
26 For the price of a woman, a prostitute, is the price of a loaf of bread, but the ⌞woman belonging to a man⌟ hunts precious life.
26 Porque por causa de uma mulher prostituta se chega a pedir um bocado de pão; e a adúltera anda à caça de preciosa vida.
27 Can a man carry fire in his lap, and his clothes not burn?
27 Tomará alguém fogo no seu seio, sem que as suas vestes se queimem?
28 If a man walks upon the hot coals, will his feet not be burned?
28 Ou andará alguém sobre as brasas, sem que se queimem os seus pés?
29 Thus, he who goes to the wife of his neighbor, any who touches her shall not go unpunished.
29 Assim será o que entrar à mulher do seu próximo; não ficará inocente todo aquele que a tocar.
30 People do not despise a thief when he steals to fill himself when he is hungry.
30 Não se injuria o ladrão, quando furta para saciar a sua alma, tendo fome;
31 But if he is found, he will pay sevenfold, every possession of his house he shall give.
31 mas, encontrado, pagará sete vezes tanto; dará toda a fazenda de sua casa.
32 He who commits adultery with a woman lacks ⌞sense⌟, he destroys himself who does it.
32 O que adultera com uma mulher é falto de entendimento; destrói a sua alma o que tal faz.
33 A wound and dishonor he will find, and his disgrace will not be wiped out.
33 Achará castigo e vilipêndio, e o seu opróbrio nunca se apagará.
34 For jealousy is the fury of a husband, and he will not show restraint on the day of revenge.
34 Porque furioso é o ciúme do marido; e de maneira nenhuma perdoará no dia da vingança.
35 He will not accept ⌞any compensation⌟, and he will not be willing, though the bribe is large.
35 Nenhum resgate aceitará, nem consentirá, ainda que multipliques os presentes.
