1 Better a dry morsel and quiet with it than a house filled with feasts of strife.
1 Melhor é um bocado seco, e sua quietude, do que uma casa cheia de sacrifícios e com contenda.
2 A slave who deals wisely will rule over a child who acts shamefully, and in the midst of brothers he will share his inheritance.
2 Um servo sábio terá domínio sobre um filho que causa vergonha, e terá parte da herança entre os irmãos.
3 A crucible is for the silver, and a furnace is for the gold, but Yahweh will test hearts.
3 O crisol é para a prata, e o forno para o ouro; mas o SENHOR prova os corações.
4 He who does evil listens to lips of wickedness, and the liar gives heed to the tongue of mischief.
4 O perverso atenta para os falsos lábios, e o mentiroso dá ouvidos à língua maldosa.
5 He who mocks the poor insults him who made him; he who rejoices at calamity will not go unpunished.
5 Quem zomba dos pobres envergonha o seu Criador, e aquele que se alegra com as calamidades não ficará impune.
6 The crown of the elderly are ⌞grandchildren⌟, and the glory of children is their fathers.
6 Os filhos dos filhos são a coroa dos idosos; e a glória dos filhos são seus pais.
7 ⌞Fine speech⌟ is not becoming a fool, ⌞still less⌟ is ⌞false speech⌟ for a ruler.
7 O discurso excelente não cai bem ao tolo; muito menos o lábio mentiroso ao príncipe.
8 The bribe is a stone of magic in the eyes of its owner; ⌞everywhere⌟ he will turn, he will prosper.
8 Como pedra preciosa é o presente aos olhos de quem o recebe, para onde quer que se volte, prosperará.
9 He who forgives an affront fosters love, but he who waits on a matter will alienate a friend.
9 Aquele que encobre a transgressão busca o amor, mas aquele que repete um assunto separa os muitos amigos.
10 A rebuke strikes him who understands deeper than one hundred blows to a fool.
10 A repreensão entra mais em um homem sábio do que cem açoites no tolo.
11 An evil person will seek only rebellion, and a cruel messenger will be sent against him.
11 Um homem mal busca apenas a rebelião; portanto, um mensageiro cruel será enviado contra ele.
12 May a man meet a she-bear robbed of offspring and not a fool in his folly.
12 Que uma ursa roubada de seus filhotes encontre um homem, em vez de um tolo na sua loucura.
13 For he who returns evil for good, evil will not depart from his house.
13 A quem quer que recompense o mal pelo bem, o mal não partirá de sua casa.
14 Like the release of water is the beginning of strife; before it breaks out, stop the quarrel.
14 O princípio da contenda é como alguém que deixa a água sair; portanto, deixa a discórdia antes que haja rixas.
15 He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous, the two of them are both abominations of Yahweh.
15 Aquele que justifica o perverso e o que condena o justo, ambos são abominação ao SENHOR.
16 Why is this? A price in the hand of a fool, in order to buy wisdom where there is no ⌞sense⌟.
16 De que serve na mão do tolo o preço para comprar a sabedoria, visto que ele não tem coração para ela?
17 The friend loves at all times, but a brother is born for adversity.
17 Um amigo ama em todo o tempo, e na adversidade nasce um irmão.
18 A person who lacks ⌞sense⌟ ⌞pledges⌟; he becomes security before his neighbor.
18 Um homem vazio de entendimento aperta a mão e se torna fiador na presença de seu amigo.
19 He who loves transgression loves strife; he who builds his high thresholds seeks destruction.
19 Aquele que ama a transgressão ama a contenda, e aquele que exalta o seu portão busca a destruição.
20 He who is crooked of heart will not find goodness, and he who is perverse, by his tongue he will fall into calamity.
20 Aquele que tem um coração mau não encontra o bem, e aquele que tem a língua perversa cai no dano.
21 He who begets a fool, there is trouble for him; the father of a fool will not rejoice.
21 Aquele que gera um tolo para a sua tristeza o faz; e o pai de um tolo não tem alegria.
22 A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a downcast spirit will dry out bones.
22 Um coração alegre é como um bom remédio, mas um espírito partido seca os ossos.
23 The wicked will accept a bribe from the lap, in order to pervert the ways of justice.
23 Um homem perverso tira um presente do peito para perverter os caminhos do juízo.
24 He who understands sets his face toward wisdom, but the eyes of a fool, to the end of the earth.
24 A sabedoria está diante daquele que tem entendimento, mas os olhos de um tolo estão nos confins da terra.
25 A grief to his father is the child of a fool, and bitterness to her who bore him.
25 Um filho insensato é uma aflição para o seu pai, e amargura para aquela que o deu à luz.
26 Also, imposing a fine on the righteous is not good, nor to flog nobles for uprightness.
26 Também não é bom punir o justo, nem atacar os príncipes por equidade.
27 He who spares his sayings knows knowledge, and a cool spirit is a man of understanding.
27 Aquele que tem conhecimento poupa as suas palavras, e um homem de entendimento é de excelente espírito.
28 Even a fool who keeps silent ⌞shall be considered wise⌟; he who closes his lips is intelligent.
28 Até um tolo quando fica quieto é contado como sábio; e aquele que fecha seus lábios é estimado como um homem de entendimento.
