1 After Abimelech, Tola son of Puah son of Dod, a man of Issachar, rose up to deliver Israel; and he was living at Shamir in the hill country of Ephraim.
1 Depois de Abimeleque, Tolá, filho de Puá e neto de Dodo, veio libertar o povo de Israel. Ele era da tribo de Issacar e morava na cidade de Samir, na região montanhosa de Efraim.
2 And he judged Israel twenty-three years. And he died and was buried in Shamir.
2 Tolá foi líder de Israel durante vinte e três anos. Depois morreu e foi sepultado em Samir.
3 After him Jair the Gileadite rose up, and he judged Israel twenty-two years.
3 Em seguida apareceu Jair, da terra de Gileade. Jair foi líder de Israel durante vinte e dois anos.
4 And he had thirty sons who would ride on thirty donkeys, and they had thirty towns that are in the land of Gilead that they called Havvoth Jair until this day.
4 Ele tinha trinta filhos, que montavam trinta jumentos. Os seus filhos tinham trinta cidades na região de Gileade. Elas são chamadas até hoje de “cidades de Jair”.
5 And Jair died and was buried in Kamon.
5 Jair morreu e foi sepultado em Camom.
6 And again, the ⌞Israelites⌟ did evil in the eyes of Yahweh. They served the Baals, the Ashtaroth, the gods of Aram, Sidon, Moab, and the gods of the ⌞Ammonites⌟ and Philistines; they abandoned Yahweh and did not serve him.
6 E mais uma vez os israelitas pecaram contra Deus, o Senhor . Adoraram o deus Baal de várias cidades, a deusa Astarote e também os deuses da Síria, de Sidom, de Moabe, de Amom e dos filisteus. Eles abandonaram o Senhor e deixaram de adorá-lo.
7 And ⌞the anger of Yahweh burned⌟ against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of the Philistines and the ⌞Ammonites⌟.
7 Então ele ficou muito irado com os israelitas e deixou que sofressem nas mãos dos filisteus e dos amonitas.
8 They crushed and oppressed the ⌞Israelites⌟ in that year; for eighteen years they crushed all the ⌞Israelites⌟ who were beyond the Jordan, in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.
8 Naquele mesmo ano eles derrotaram os israelitas e os escravizaram. Durante dezoito anos eles escravizaram todos os israelitas que viviam em Gileade, a leste do rio Jordão, na terra dos amorreus.
9 The ⌞Ammonites⌟ crossed the Jordan to fight also against Judah, Benjamin, and the house of Ephraim; and Israel was very distressed.
9 Os amonitas também atravessaram o rio Jordão para lutar contra as tribos de Judá, de Benjamim e de Efraim. E assim Israel passava por uma grande aflição.
10 Then the ⌞Israelites⌟ cried out to Yahweh, saying, “We have sinned against you; we have abandoned our God and served the Baals.”
10 Então os israelitas pediram socorro a Deus, o Senhor , orando assim: — Nosso Deus, nós pecamos contra ti porque te deixamos e adoramos os deuses dos cananeus.
11 And Yahweh said to the ⌞Israelites⌟, “Did I not deliver you from the Egyptians, the Amorites, from the ⌞Ammonites⌟, and from the Philistines?
11 E o Senhor respondeu: — No passado os egípcios, os amorreus, os amonitas, os filisteus,
12 And when the Sidonians, the Amalekites, and the Maonites oppressed you, you cried out to me, and I delivered you from their hand.
12 os sidônios, os amalequitas e os maonitas escravizaram vocês, e vocês me pediram socorro. E eu os salvei deles.
13 Yet you have abandoned me and served other gods. Therefore I will no longer deliver you.
13 Mas assim mesmo vocês me abandonaram e adoraram outros deuses. Por isso eu não vou mais ajudá-los.
14 Go and cry out to the gods whom you have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your trouble.”
14 Agora peçam socorro aos deuses que vocês escolheram. Que eles os ajudem quando vocês estiverem em dificuldades!
15 And the ⌞Israelites⌟ said to Yahweh, “We have sinned; ⌞do to us accordingly as you see fit⌟; only please deliver us this day.”
15 Mas o povo de Israel respondeu: — De fato, nós pecamos. Faze de nós o que quiseres. Mas salva-nos hoje, por favor.
16 So they removed the foreign gods from their midst and served Yahweh; and ⌞he could no longer bear⌟ the misery of Israel.
16 Então eles jogaram fora os seus deuses estrangeiros e adoraram a Deus, o Senhor . E ele teve pena deles por causa da situação difícil em que estavam.
17 And the ⌞Ammonites⌟ were summoned, and they camped in Gilead. And the ⌞Israelites⌟ gathered and camped at Mizpah.
17 Então o exército amonita veio e acampou em Mispa.
18 The people, the ones commanding Gilead, ⌞said to each other⌟, “Who is the man that will begin to fight against the ⌞Ammonites⌟? He will be as head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.”
18 E os chefes e o povo de Gileade combinaram que o homem que comandasse os israelitas na luta contra os amonitas seria o chefe dos moradores de Gileade.
