1 Then, after these things, Jesus was walking in Galilee. For he was not willing to walk in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill him.
1 Depois dessas coisas, Jesus andava pela Galileia; porque ele não queria andar pela Judeia, pois os judeus procuravam matá-lo.
2 Now the feast day of the Jews, the Feast of Tabernacles, was near.
2 Ora, estava próxima a festa dos tabernáculos dos judeus.
3 And his brothers said to him: “Move away from here and go into Judea, so that your disciples there may also see your works that you do.
3 Portanto, os seus irmãos disseram-lhe: Parte daqui e vai para a Judeia, para que também os teus discípulos vejam as obras que tu fazes.
4 Of course, no one does anything in secret, but he himself seeks to be in the public view. Since you do these things, manifest yourself to the world.”
4 Porque não há homem que faça coisa alguma em secreto, e que procure ser conhecido publicamente. Se tu fazes essas coisas, mostra-te ao mundo.
5 For neither did his brothers believe in him.
5 Porque nem seus irmãos acreditavam nele.
6 Therefore, Jesus said to them: “My time has not yet come; but your time is always at hand.
6 Então, disse-lhes Jesus: Ainda não é chegado o meu tempo; mas o vosso tempo sempre está pronto.
7 The world cannot hate you. But it hates me, because I offer testimony about it, that its works are evil.
7 O mundo não vos pode odiar, mas a mim odeia, porquanto dele dou testemunho, que são más as suas obras.
8 You may go up to this feast day. But I am not going up to this feast day, because my time has not yet been fulfilled.”
8 Subi vós à festa; eu ainda não subirei à esta festa, porque o meu tempo ainda não está cumprido.
9 When he had said these things, he himself remained in Galilee.
9 E, tendo dito estas palavras, ele permaneceu na Galileia.
10 But after his brothers went up, then he also went up to the feast day, not openly, but as if in secret.
10 Mas, quando seus irmãos já tinham subido, ele também subiu para a festa, não em público, mas como que secretamente.
11 Therefore, the Jews were seeking him on the feast day, and they were saying, “Where is he?”
11 Então os Judeus o buscavam na festa e diziam: Onde está ele?
12 And there was much murmuring in the crowd concerning him. For certain ones were saying, “He is good.” But others were saying, “No, for he seduces the crowds.”
12 E havia muita murmuração entre a multidão a respeito dele; porque alguns diziam: Ele é um bom homem; e outros diziam: Não, pois ele engana o povo.
13 Yet no one was speaking openly about him, out of fear of the Jews.
13 Todavia, nenhum homem falava dele publicamente, por medo dos judeus.
14 Then, about the middle of the feast, Jesus ascended into the temple, and he was teaching.
14 Ora, na metade da festa, Jesus subiu ao templo, e ensinava.
15 And the Jews wondered, saying: “How does this one know letters, though he has not been taught?”
15 E os judeus se maravilhavam, dizendo: Como conhece este homem letras, não as tendo aprendido?
16 Jesus responded to them and said: “My doctrine is not of me, but of him who sent me.
16 Jesus respondeu e disse-lhes: A minha doutrina não é minha, mas daquele que me enviou.
17 If anyone has chosen to do his will, then he will realize, about the doctrine, whether it is from God, or whether I am speaking from myself.
17 Se algum homem quiser fazer a vontade dele, há de saber da doutrina, se ela é de Deus, ou se falo de mim mesmo.
18 Whoever speaks from himself seeks his own glory. But whoever seeks the glory of him who sent him, this one is true, and injustice is not in him.
18 Quem fala de si mesmo busca a sua própria glória; mas o que busca a glória daquele que o enviou, esse é verdadeiro, e não há nele injustiça.
19 Did not Moses give you the law? And yet not one among you keeps the law!
19 Não vos deu Moisés a lei? E, ainda assim, nenhum de vós cumpre a lei. Por que procurais matar-me?
20 Why are you seeking to kill me?” The crowd responded and said: “You must have a demon. Who is seeking to kill you?”
20 A multidão respondeu e disse: Tu tens um demônio, quem procura matar-te?
21 Jesus responded and said to them: “One work have I done, and you all wonder.
21 Jesus respondeu e disse-lhes: Eu fiz uma obra, e todos vos maravilhais.
22 For Moses gave you circumcision, (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers) and on the Sabbath you circumcise a man.
22 Portanto, Moisés vos deu a circuncisão (não porque é de Moisés, mas dos pais); e no dia do shabat circuncidais um homem.
23 If a man can receive circumcision on the Sabbath, so that the law of Moses may not be broken, why are you indignant toward me, because I have made a man whole on the Sabbath?
23 Se o homem recebe a circuncisão no dia do shabat, para que a lei de Moisés não seja violada, como vos irritais comigo, porque no dia do shabat eu fiz um homem inteiramente são?
24 Do not judge according to appearances, but instead judge a just judgment.”
24 Não julgueis segundo a aparência, mas julgai segundo o reto juízo.
25 Therefore, some of those from Jerusalem said: “Is he not the one whom they are seeking to kill?
25 Então, alguns dos de Jerusalém diziam: Não é este que eles procuram matar?
26 And behold, he is speaking openly, and they say nothing to him. Could the leaders have decided that it is true this one is the Christ?
26 Mas eis que ele fala publicamente, e nada lhe dizem. Porventura, sabem os governantes que este é verdadeiramente o Cristo?
27 But we know him and where he is from. And when the Christ has arrived, no one will know where he is from.”
27 Entretanto, nós sabemos de onde este homem é; mas quando vier o Cristo, nenhum homem saberá de onde ele é.
28 Therefore, Jesus cried out in the temple, teaching and saying: “You know me, and you also know where I am from. And I have not arrived of myself, but he who sent me is true, and him you do not know.
28 Então, clamava Jesus no templo enquanto ensinava, dizendo: Vós me conheceis e sabeis de onde sou; e eu não vim de mim mesmo, mas aquele que me enviou é verdadeiro, o qual vós não conheceis.
29 I know him. For I am from him, and he has sent me.”
29 Mas eu conheço-o; porque dele eu sou, e ele me enviou.
30 Therefore, they were seeking to apprehend him, and yet no one laid hands on him, because his hour had not yet come.
30 Então, eles buscavam prendê-lo; mas nenhum homem lançou mão dele, porque ainda não era chegada a sua hora.
31 But many among the crowd believed in him, and they were saying, “When the Christ arrives, will he perform more signs than this man does?”
31 E muitos da multidão creram nele e diziam: Quando o Cristo vier, ele fará ainda mais milagres do que os que este homem tem feito?
32 The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things about him. And the leaders and the Pharisees sent attendants to apprehend him.
32 Os fariseus ouviram a multidão murmurar essas coisas a respeito dele; e os fariseus e os principais sacerdotes enviaram oficiais para o prenderem.
33 Therefore, Jesus said to them: “For a brief time, I am still with you, and then I am going to him who sent me.
33 Então, disse-lhes Jesus: Ainda por um pouco de tempo eu estou convosco, e então eu vou para aquele que me enviou.
34 You shall seek me, and you will not find me. And where I am, you are not able to go.”
34 Vós me buscareis, e não me achareis; e onde eu estou, vós não podeis vir.
35 And so the Jews said among themselves: “Where is this place to which he will go, such that we will not find him? Will he go to those dispersed among the Gentiles and teach the Gentiles?
35 Disseram, pois, os judeus uns para os outros: Para onde ele irá que não o acharemos? Ele irá para os dispersos entre os gentios, e ensinará os gentios?
36 What is this word that he spoke, ‘You will seek me and you will not find me; and where I am, you are not able to go?’ ”
36 Que tipo de palavra é esta que ele disse: Vós me buscareis, e não me achareis; e onde eu estou, vós não podeis vir?
37 Then, on the last great day of the feast, Jesus was standing and crying out, saying: “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink:
37 No último dia, o grande dia da festa, Jesus pôs-se em pé e clamou, dizendo: Se algum homem tem sede, deixai-o vir a mim, e beber.
38 whoever believes in me, just as Scripture says, ‘From his chest shall flow rivers of living water.’ ”
38 Quem crê em mim, como diz a escritura, do seu ventre fluirão rios de água viva.
39 Now he said this about the Spirit, which those who believe in him would soon be receiving. For the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.
39 (Mas isso ele falou do Espírito, que haviam de receber os que nele cressem; porque o Espírito Santo ainda não fora dado, pois Jesus ainda não tinha sido glorificado).
40 Therefore, some from that crowd, when they had heard these words of his, were saying, “This one truly is the Prophet.”
40 Então, muitos da multidão, ouvindo este dizer, diziam: Verdadeiramente, este é o Profeta.
41 Others were saying, “He is the Christ.” Yet certain ones were saying: “Does the Christ come from Galilee?
41 Outros diziam: Este é o Cristo. Mas diziam outros: Virá o Cristo da Galileia?
42 Does Scripture not say that the Christ comes from the offspring of David and from Bethlehem, the town where David was?”
42 Não diz a escritura que o Cristo vem da semente de Davi, e da cidade de Belém, de onde era Davi?
43 And so there arose a dissension among the multitude because of him.
43 Assim, houve uma divisão entre o povo por causa dele.
44 Now certain ones among them wanted to apprehend him, but no one laid hands upon him.
44 E alguns deles queriam prendê-lo, mas nenhum homem lhe pôs as mãos.
45 Therefore, the attendants went to the high priests and the Pharisees. And they said to them, “Why have you not brought him?”
45 Então, os oficiais foram até os principais sacerdotes e fariseus, e eles lhes perguntaram: Por que não o trouxestes?
46 The attendants responded, “Never has a man spoken like this man.”
46 Responderam os oficiais: Nunca homem algum falou assim como este homem.
47 And so the Pharisees answered them: “Have you also been seduced?
47 Então responderam-lhes os fariseus: Vós também fostes enganados?
48 Have any of the leaders believed in him, or any of the Pharisees?
48 Alguém dos governantes ou dos fariseus acreditou nele?
49 But this crowd, which does not know the law, they are accursed.”
49 Mas esta multidão, que não sabe a lei, é maldita.
50 Nicodemus, the one who came to him by night and who was one of them, said to them,
50 Nicodemos (o que de noite fora até Jesus, sendo um deles) disse-lhes:
51 “Does our law judge a man, unless it has first heard him and has known what he has done?”
51 Porventura, julga a nossa lei algum homem sem primeiro ouvi-lo e ter conhecimento do que ele fez?
52 They responded and said to him: “Are you also a Galilean? Study the Scriptures, and see that a prophet does not arise from Galilee.”
52 Eles responderam, e disseram-lhe: És tu também da Galileia? Examina e vê; porque da Galileia não se levanta profeta.
53 And each one returned to his own house.
53 E cada homem foi para sua própria casa.
