¹ And he went forth thence, and came to his own country, and his disciples do follow him,

¹ E ele saindo dali, chegou à sua própria terra, e os seus discípulos o seguiram.

² and sabbath having come, he began in the synagogue to teach, and many hearing were astonished, saying, 'Whence has this one these things? and what the wisdom that was given to him, that also such mighty works through his hands are done?

² E, chegando o dia do shabat, ele começou a ensinar na sinagoga; e muitos, ao ouvi-lo, se admiravam, dizendo: De onde lhe vem estas coisas? E que sabedoria é esta que lhe é dada, e como estas poderosas obras são feitas por suas mãos?

³ Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James, and Joses, and Judas, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us?' -- and they were being stumbled at him.

³ Não é este o carpinteiro, filho de Maria, irmão de Tiago, e de José, e de Judas e de Simão? E não estão aqui conosco suas irmãs? E escandalizavam-se nele.

⁴ And Jesus said to them -- 'A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and among his kindred, and in his own house;'

⁴ Mas Jesus lhes dizia: O profeta não está sem honra, exceto na sua própria terra, e entre os seus próprios parentes, e na sua própria casa.

⁵ and he was not able there any mighty work to do, except on a few infirm people having put hands he did heal them;

⁵ E ele não podia fazer ali nenhuma obra poderosa, salvo impor suas mãos sobre poucas pessoas enfermas, curando-as.

⁶ and he wondered because of their unbelief. And he was going round the villages, in a circle, teaching,

⁶ E admirou-se da descrença deles. E ele percorreu as aldeias vizinhas, ensinando.

⁷ and he does call near the twelve, and he began to send them forth two by two, and he was giving them power over the unclean spirits,

⁷ E ele chamou a si os doze, e começou a enviá-los de dois em dois, e deu-lhes poder sobre os espíritos imundos;

⁸ and he commanded them that they may take nothing for the way, except a staff only -- no scrip, no bread, no brass in the girdle,

⁸ e ordenou-lhes que nada levassem para sua jornada, senão somente um cajado; nem alforje, nem pão, nem dinheiro no seu cinto;

⁹ but having been shod with sandals, and you may not put on two coats.

⁹ mas que fossem calçados com sandálias, e que não vestissem duas túnicas.

¹⁰ And he said to them, 'Whenever you may enter into a house, there remain till you may depart thence,

¹⁰ E ele dizia-lhes: Onde quer que entrardes numa casa, permanecei até partir daquele lugar.

¹¹ and as many as may not receive you, nor hear you, going out thence, shake off the dust that is under your feet for a testimony to them; verily I say to you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom or Gomorrah in a day of judgment than for that city.'

¹¹ E aqueles que não vos receberem, nem vos ouvirem, saindo dali, sacudi o pó que estiver debaixo dos vossos pés, em testemunho contra eles. Em verdade eu vos digo que haverá mais tolerância para Sodoma e Gomorra no dia do juízo do que para os daquela cidade.

¹² And having gone forth they were preaching that men might reform,

¹² E eles foram, e pregando que os homens se arrependessem.

¹³ and many demons they were casting out, and they were anointing with oil many infirm, and they were healing them.

¹³ E eles expulsavam muitos demônios, e ungiam com óleo muitos que eram enfermos, e os curavam.

¹⁴ And the king Herod heard, (for his name became public,) and he said -- 'John the Baptist out of the dead was raised, and because of this the mighty powers are working in him.'

¹⁴ E o rei Herodes ouviu falar dele (pois seu nome foi propagado amplamente) e disse: João, o Batista, foi ressuscitado dentre os mortos, e por isso estas maravilhas operam nele.

¹⁵ Others said -- 'It is Elijah,' and others said -- 'It is a prophet, or as one of the prophets.'

¹⁵ Outros diziam: Este é Elias. E outros diziam: Este é um profeta, ou como um dos profetas.

¹⁶ And Herod having heard, said -- 'He whom I did behead -- John -- this is he; he was raised out of the dead.'

¹⁶ Mas Herodes ouvindo isso, dizia: Este é João, a quem eu decapitei; ele está ressuscitado dentre os mortos.

¹⁷ For Herod himself, having sent forth, did lay hold on John, and bound him in the prison, because of Herodias the wife of Philip his brother, because he married her,

¹⁷ Pois o próprio Herodes mandara prender a João, e o confinou na prisão, por causa de Herodias, esposa de seu irmão Filipe; porque ele havia se casado com ela.

¹⁸ for John said to Herod -- 'It is not lawful to you to have the wife of your brother;'

¹⁸ Pois João dizia a Herodes: Não te é lícito possuir a esposa de teu irmão.

¹⁹ and Herodias was having a quarrel with him, and was willing to kill him, and was not able,

¹⁹ Por isso, Herodias tinha uma desavença contra ele, e queria matá-lo, mas ela não podia;

²⁰ for Herod was fearing John, knowing him a man righteous and holy, and was keeping watch over him, and having heard him, was doing many things, and hearing him gladly.

²⁰ porque Herodes temia a João, sabendo que ele era um homem justo e santo; e o observava; e ao ouvi-lo, ele fazia muitas coisas, e o ouvia de boa vontade.

²¹ And a seasonable day having come, when Herod on his birthday was making a supper to his great men, and to the chiefs of thousands, and to the first men of Galilee,

²¹ E, chegando um dia oportuno, quando Herodes em seu aniversário fez um jantar aos seus senhores, altos capitães, e chefes da Galileia;

²² and the daughter of that Herodias having come in, and having danced, and having pleased Herod and those reclining (at meat) with him, the king said to the damsel, 'Ask of me whatever you will, and I will give to you,'

²² e entrando a filha de Herodias, e dançando, e agradando a Herodes, e aos que estavam sentados com ele, o rei disse à donzela: Pede-me o que quiseres, e eu te darei.

²³ and he sware to her -- 'Whatever you may ask me, I will give to you -- unto the half of my kingdom.'

²³ E jurou-lhe, dizendo: Tudo o que me pedires eu te darei, até a metade do meu reino.

²⁴ And she, having gone forth, said to her mother, 'What shall I ask for myself?' and she said, 'The head of John the Baptist;'

²⁴ E, saindo ela, disse à sua mãe: O que eu pedirei? E ela disse: A cabeça de João, o Batista.

²⁵ and having come in immediately with haste unto the king, she asked, saying, 'I will that you may give me presently, upon a plate, the head of John the Baptist.'

²⁵ E ela veio imediatamente para junto do rei, e pediu, dizendo: Eu quero que tu me dês em um prato a cabeça de João, o Batista.

²⁶ And the king -- made very sorrowful -- because of the oaths and of those reclining (at meat) with him, would not put her away,

²⁶ E o rei entristeceu-se muito; todavia, por causa do juramento e dos que estavam sentados com ele, não quis deixar de atendê-la.

²⁷ and immediately the king having sent a guardsman, did command his head to be brought,

²⁷ E imediatamente o rei enviou um carrasco, e ordenou que a cabeça dele fosse trazida; e ele foi, e o decapitou na prisão;

²⁸ and he having gone, beheaded him in the prison, and brought his head upon a plate, and did give it to the damsel, and the damsel did give it to her mother;

²⁸ e trouxe sua cabeça em um prato, e entregou à donzela; e a donzela a deu à sua mãe.

²⁹ and having heard, his disciples came and took up his corpse, and laid it in the tomb.

²⁹ E, quando seus discípulos ouviram isso, foram, tomaram o seu corpo, e o puseram no sepulcro.

³⁰ And the apostles are gathered together unto Jesus, and they told him all, and how many things they did, and how many things they taught,

³⁰ E os apóstolos reuniram-se com Jesus, e contaram-lhe todas estas coisas, tanto o que tinham feito como o que eles tinham ensinado.

³¹ and he said to them, 'Come you yourselves apart to a desert place, and rest a little,' for those coming and those going were many, and not even to eat had they opportunity,

³¹ E ele disse-lhes: Vinde vós, aqui à parte, para um lugar deserto, e descansai um tempo. Porque havia muitos que iam e vinham, e não tinham tempo nem para comer.

³² and they went away to a desert place, in the boat, by themselves.

³² E eles partiram a sós num barco para um lugar deserto.

³³ And the multitudes saw them going away, and many recognized him, and by land from all the cities they ran thither, and went before them, and came together to him,

³³ E as pessoas os viram partir, e muitos o reconheceram, e para lá correram a pé de todas as cidades, e os ultrapassaram, e aproximavam-se dele.

³⁴ and having come forth, Jesus saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion on them, that they were as sheep not having a shepherd, and he began to teach many things.

³⁴ E Jesus, ao desembarcar, viu uma grande multidão, e teve compaixão dela, porque eles eram como ovelhas que não têm pastor; e ele começou a ensinar-lhes muitas coisas.

³⁵ And now the hour being advanced, his disciples having come near to him, say, -- 'The place is desolate, and the hour is now advanced,

³⁵ E, quando o dia já estava muito adiantado, os seus discípulos se aproximaram dele, e lhe disseram: Este lugar é deserto, e o dia está muito adiantado;

³⁶ let them away, that, having gone away to the surrounding fields and villages, they may buy to themselves loaves, for what they may eat they have not.'

³⁶ despede-os, para que possam ir nas regiões ao redor, e às aldeias, e comprem pão para si; porque eles nada têm para comer.

³⁷ And he answering said to them, 'Give you them to eat,' and they say to him, 'Having gone away, may we buy two hundred denaries' worth of loaves, and give to them to eat?'

³⁷ Ele respondendo, lhes disse: Dai-lhes vós de comer. E eles disseram-lhe: Devemos ir e comprar duzentos denários de pão e dar-lhes de comer?

³⁸ And he said to them, 'How many loaves have you? go and see;' and having known, they say, 'Five, and two fishes.'

³⁸ E ele disse-lhes: Quantos pães vós tendes? Ide e vedes. E, quando eles souberam, disseram: Cinco, e dois peixes.

³⁹ And he commanded them to make all recline in companies upon the green grass,

³⁹ E ele ordenou-lhes que fizessem assentar a todos, em grupos, sobre a grama verde.

⁴⁰ and they sat down in squares, by hundreds, and by fifties.

⁴⁰ E eles assentaram-se em grupos de cem e de cinquenta.

⁴¹ And having taken the five loaves and the two fishes, having looked up to the heaven, he blessed, and brake the loaves, and was giving to his disciples, that they may set before them, and the two fishes divided he to all,

⁴¹ E, tomando ele os cinco pães e os dois peixes, e olhando para o céu, abençoou e partiu os pães, e deu-os aos seus discípulos para que os pusessem diante deles; e dividiu os dois peixes entre todos eles.

⁴² and they did all eat, and were filled,

⁴² E todos eles comeram e se fartaram.

⁴³ and they took up of broken pieces twelve hand-baskets full, and of the fishes,

⁴³ E recolheram doze cestos cheios dos pedaços, e de peixe.

⁴⁴ and those eating of the loaves were about five thousand men.

⁴⁴ E os que comeram os pães eram quase cinco mil homens.

⁴⁵ And immediately he constrained his disciples to go into the boat, and to go before to the other side, unto Bethsaida, till he may let the multitude away,

⁴⁵ E imediatamente obrigou os seus discípulos a entrar no barco e passar adiante, para o outro lado, a Betsaida, enquanto ele despedia a multidão.

⁴⁶ and having taken leave of them, he went away to the mountain to pray.

⁴⁶ E, tendo-os despedido, ele foi ao monte para orar.

⁴⁷ And evening having come, the boat was in the midst of the sea, and he alone upon the land;

⁴⁷ E, ao anoitecer, o barco estava no meio do mar, e ele sozinho em terra.

⁴⁸ and he saw them harassed in the rowing, for the wind was against them, and about the fourth watch of the night he does come to them walking on the sea, and wished to pass by them.

⁴⁸ E viu-os fatigados a remar, porque o vento lhes era contrário; perto da quarta vigília da noite aproximou-se deles, andando sobre o mar, e queria passar-lhes adiante.

⁴⁹ And they having seen him walking on the sea, thought it to be an apparition, and cried out,

⁴⁹ Mas, quando eles o viram andar sobre o mar, imaginaram que fosse um espírito, e gritaram;

⁵⁰ for they all saw him, and were troubled, and immediately he spake with them, and said to them, 'Take courage, I amhe, be not afraid.'

⁵⁰ porque todos o viram, e perturbaram-se. E imediatamente falou com eles, e disse-lhes: Tende bom ânimo; sou eu, não tenhais medo.

⁵¹ And he went up unto them to the boat, and the wind lulled, and greatly out of measure were they amazed in themselves, and were wondering,

⁵¹ E subiu para junto deles no barco, e o vento cessou; e ficaram maravilhados em si mesmos além da medida,

⁵² for they understood not concerning the loaves, for their heart has been hard.

⁵² pois eles não tinham considerado o milagre dos pães; pois o seu coração estava endurecido.

⁵³ And having passed over, they came upon the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore,

⁵³ E, eles passando para o outro lado, chegaram à terra de Genesaré, e atracaram na praia.

⁵⁴ and they having come forth out of the boat, immediately having recognized him,

⁵⁴ E, quando eles saíram do barco, imediatamente o conheceram,

⁵⁵ having run about through all that region round about, they began upon the couches to carry about those ill, where they were hearing that he is,

⁵⁵ e, correndo toda a região em redor, começaram a trazer em leitos os que estavam enfermos, para onde ouviam dizer que ele estava.

⁵⁶ and wherever he was going, to villages, or cities, or fields, in the market-places they were laying the infirm, and were calling upon him, that they may touch if it were but the fringe of his garment, and as many as were touching him were saved.

⁵⁶ E, onde quer que ele entrava, em aldeias, ou cidade, ou nos campos, eles colocavam os enfermos nas ruas, e pediam-lhe que eles pudessem tocar somente na orla da sua roupa; e todos quantos o tocavam ficavam curados.
