1 The story of Nehemiah, son of Hacaliah,and it came to pass, in the month Chislev, in the twentieth year, when, I, was in Shusan the fortress,
1 Estas são as memórias de Neemias, filho de Hacalias. No mês de quisleu, no vigésimo ano do reinado do rei Artaxerxes,
2 that Hanani one of my brethren came, he and certain men out of Judah,so I asked them concerning the Jews who had escaped, who were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.
2 Hanani, um de meus irmãos, veio me visitar com alguns homens que haviam chegado de Judá. Perguntei-lhes a respeito dos judeus que haviam regressado do cativeiro e da situação em Jerusalém.
3 And they said unto me, The remnant who are left of the captivity, there in the province, are in great misfortune and reproach, the wall of Jerusalem, is broken down, and, the gates thereof, are burned with fire.
3 Eles responderam: “As coisas não vão bem para os que regressaram à província de Judá. Eles estão passando por dificuldades e humilhações. O muro de Jerusalém foi derrubado, e suas portas foram destruídas pelo fogo”.
4 And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and I mourned certain days,and continued fasting and praying, before the God of the heavens;
4 Quando ouvi isso, sentei-me e chorei. Durante alguns dias, lamentei, jejuei e orei ao Deus dos céus.
5 and said, I beseech thee, O Yahweh God of the heavens, the great and fearful GOD,keeping the covenant and lovingkindness for them who love him and keep his commandments:
5 Então disse: “Ó S
6 Let, I pray thee, thine ears be attentive and thine eyes opento hearken unto the prayer of thy servant-which, I, am praying before thee now, day and night, for the sons of Israel, thy servants,-and making confession concerning the sins of the sons of Israel, which we have committed against thee, both I and the house of my father, have sinned.
6 ouve minha oração! Olha do alto e vê que oro noite e dia por teu povo, Israel. Confesso que temos pecado contra ti. Sim, minha própria família e eu temos pecado!
7 We have dealt, very corruptly, against thee,and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes nor the regulations, which thou didst command Moses thy servant.
7 Temos pecado terrivelmente contra ti. Não temos obedecido a teus mandamentos, decretos e estatutos, que nos deste por meio de teu servo Moisés.
8 Remember, I pray thee, the word, which thou didst command Moses thy servant, saying,If, ye, are unfaithful, I, will scatter you among the peoples:
8 “Por favor, lembra-te do que disseste a teu servo Moisés: ‘Se forem infiéis a mim, eu os dispersarei entre as nações,
9 When ye return unto me and keep my commandments and do them, though it should be that ye have been driven out unto the uttermost part of the heavens, from thence, will I gather them, and bring them into the place that I have chosen to make a habitation for my Name there.
9 mas, se voltarem para mim e obedecerem a meus mandamentos e viverem de acordo com eles, então, mesmo que estejam exilados nos confins da terra, eu os reunirei e os trarei de volta ao lugar que escolhi para estabelecer meu nome’.
10 They, therefore, are thy servants, and thy people,whom thou hast redeemed by thy great power, and by thy firm hand.
10 “O povo que tu resgataste com teu grande poder e com tua forte mão é teu servo.
11 I beseech thee O My Lord, letI pray theethine ear be attentive unto the prayer of thy servant, and unto the prayer of thy servants who delight to revere thy Name, and oh prosper, I pray thee, thy servant to-day, and grant him compassion before this man. Now, I, was cup-bearer unto the king.
11 Ó Senhor, por favor, ouve a oração deste teu servo! Ouve as orações de teus servos que se agradam em te honrar. Peço que me concedas êxito hoje e que o rei me seja favorável”. Nesse tempo, eu era copeiro do rei.
